Chapter Index

    “So that’s how it is…”

Meanwhile Lu Xin who was being held at gunpoint by a row of officers also shook his head slightly.

At this point his sister’s face was also blank with confusion. Although she tried hard to mimic Lu Xin’s words she couldn’t grasp their meaning at all. To her these topics were just too bizarre. Lu Xin however had already pieced together the truth from his sister’s relay. Some lingering doubts he’d had were finally almost completely resolved…

So this was the ultimate reason for the abnormality in Gao Ting’s body.

It wasn’t just because she hated her own body but also because her body itself had already undergone some changes. That was also why she could control her body to charge forward and perish together with the indescribable brain-like monster back then.

Previously both Gao Ting and he had misunderstood Zhao Hui’s purpose.

They merely thought Zhao Hui wanted to possess Gao Ting’s body.

But they never expected this “possession” was meant in the most literal sense!

The surrounding atmosphere became incredibly oppressive. The row of police officers kept their guns trained on them. The group of old drivers watched their boss approach Zhao Hui. They couldn’t hear clearly what was said only catching occasional sharp spikes in volume.

This kept their hearts suspended filled with equal parts fear and anger.

Many of the old drivers had long wanted to hack Zhao Hui to pieces.

But facing the Central City Security Hall they didn’t dare show such emotions.

    “I’ll go with him.”

After an unknown amount of time Gao Ting walked back looking lost and dejected. A sense of exhaustion clung to her face as she slowly took two steps forward. Almost robotically she instructed the old drivers: “You wait here. Go back tomorrow morning…”

    “What?”

The group of old drivers were stunned their raised hands lowering. Some even looked ready to rush forward.

    “Boss what happened?”

    “Did that bastard threaten you?”

    “Everyone let’s fight him…”

Seeing the potential for chaos the old police officer’s face hardened and he abruptly waved his hand.

“Bang!” “Bang!” A couple of shots hit the gravel ground in front of the old drivers kicking up dust.

The old drivers stopped in their tracks startled but their expressions remained indignant.

    “Don’t cause trouble…”

Gao Ting’s voice lacked its usual sharp efficiency sounding utterly exhausted instead. It almost sounded like she was pleading: “I’m going back with him voluntarily… to cooperate with the investigation. It has nothing to do with you. You must get back alive… You all have wives and children waiting at home. And what about the families of our brothers who died? If you don’t go back who will take care of them?”

The old drivers were choked speechless completely bewildered by what was happening.

    “Boss…”

Little Zhou’s voice cracked with tears, “If you don’t come back who will look after us in the future?”

Gao Ting took a deep breath seemingly wanting to curse but lacking even the strength for that. When she spoke her words carried a rare gentleness: “You’ve grown so big for nothing saying such spineless things. Just choose a new boss later…”

After speaking she pressed her lips together. “It’s settled then.”

As she was about to turn her gaze swept unintentionally over Lu Xin carrying a hint of pleading.

That look seemed to beg him to help take care of these brothers for her.

Behind her Zhao Hui leaned against a truck with his arms crossed his eyes glinting with a crazed greed.

He seemed certain that everything was under his control.

However Lu Xin also detected the suppressed desperation within the seemingly broken boss.

She appeared to have lost all will to resist but Lu Xin understood this likely indicated she was prepared for something. The same resolve this woman had shown when she unhesitatingly charged the brain-like monster with a bomb had resurfaced.

“So she plans to go with Zhao Hui first then find a chance to fight him to the death?”

Lu Xin sighed softly then lowered his raised hands and stepped forward.

    “What are you doing?”

Lu Xin’s movement instantly drew everyone’s attention. Guns swiveled towards him accompanied by shouts.

Behind him Li Gang was also startled whispering urgently, “What are you doing? Don’t take risks…”

Li Gang naturally knew Lu Xin was an Ability User but even an Ability User couldn’t directly confront the Central City Security Hall!

“I also have something to add.”

Facing so many guns and wary gazes Lu Xin’s expression remained unchanged. His eyes met the intense flashlight beams seeming unfocused. But this was actually because his gaze went past the lights looking towards the area behind the row of police officers.

It landed on the General Manager of the Dadi Group warehouse who had stepped aside to smoke silently.

“Previously Old Zhou and Little Zhou from this convoy discovered a problem with their boss and paid a hefty price to ask me to take a look. I’ve already analyzed the root cause of the illness and now is the time to begin treatment. To alleviate her mental burden I reported the warehouse supervisor who had been bullying her using his position. You all know about this right?”

Lu Xin spoke his gaze fixed calmly on Manager Wang.

Manager Wang had only been forcibly dragged over due to his status. At this moment he didn’t even know what Zhao Hui truly intended to do. Suddenly finding himself the center of attention he paused startled and dropped the cigarette butt onto the ground.

He looked up unsure what to say and instinctively glanced towards Zhao Hui.

The other police officers exchanged uncertain glances. What was this about reporting someone again?

    What was going on?

But they knew Lu Xin was from Qinggang and seemed familiar with the office personnel suggesting he had a special status so they didn’t forcefully stop him.

“What tricks are you trying to pull now?”

Zhao Hui looked up his gaze cold and sinister as he stared at Lu Xin.

Lu Xin glanced at him then back at Manager Wang speaking earnestly:

“I want to know since I already reported you and even showed your leader the evidence why are you completely fine?”

    “Huh?”

Even Zhao Hui was stunned by these words.

Manager Wang also looked exceptionally surprised and awkwardly turned his head away.

“You promised us in front of everyone that you would definitely handle him.”

Lu Xin stared at Manager Wang pressing him relentlessly.

“What the fuck… Have you fucking had enough?”

Zhao Hui finally couldn’t hold back exploding with curses. This was already an extremely rare stain on his life having been publicly humiliated in front of so many colleagues. So even though he had long suspected Lu Xin wasn’t ordinary a strange sense of suppressed frustration now overwhelmed his reason. He cursed venomously: “Are you an idiot? Do you really think embarrassing me a little could scare me?”

“I’ve lived this fucking long and this is the first time someone’s reported me… Do you really think you can successfully report me?”

“What the fuck is this nonsense utterly ridiculous!”

Even this furious cursing wasn’t enough to vent the discontent in his heart.

Even Manager Wang reacted now. He could ignore Lu Xin’s question but facing an enraged Zhao Hui he had to make his stance clear. He stated firmly: “What report? It’s baseless nonsense. I’ll issue a company notice about this later. There was no bribery just malicious slander against our company’s supervisor by people from the convoy!”

“Bastard! Twisting the truth are you?”

“Do you really think we’re easy to bully?”

The group of old drivers became instantly furious some wanting to charge forward.

But gun muzzles immediately pointed at them a chilling sensation threatening their lives.

The atmosphere in the entire area became strangely bizarre oppressively heavy making it hard to breathe.

Yet at this moment Lu Xin suddenly started laughing. Someone noticed he was genuinely laughing happily.

    “So reporting is useless.”

He smiled looking at Zhao Hui. “Since it’s useless then there’s another way to solve this.”

As he spoke he started walking forward.

Li Gang suddenly realized what he intended to do and yelled: “Don’t kill him!”

Lu Xin didn’t answer continuing forward. The group of police officers instantly tensed their guns aimed squarely at Lu Xin.

The old police officer was already shouting at the top of his lungs: “What are you doing?”

    “Stop now or we’ll shoot!”

Lu Xin still acted as if he couldn’t hear instead picking up his pace.

    “Bang!”

Someone fired a warning shot hitting the ground in front of Lu Xin.

But instead of stopping him this deterrent made Lu Xin suddenly accelerate explosively. His body crouched slightly as he shot forward under the blinding glare of the officers’ flashlights moving as fast as a ghost instantly closing the distance.

This abrupt approach instantly frayed the tightly wound nerves of all the police officers.

It’s unclear who started it but suddenly gunfire erupted as countless bullets flew towards Lu Xin.

    “Kekeke…”

Lu Xin’s body twisted and folded in impossible ways dodging every bullet aimed at him. Then he charged directly into the midst of the officers his body defying physical laws as he slipped straight through the cordon of shield-bearing officers.

Even after he passed through the officers didn’t know how he had managed to slip through such tight gaps between them.

And as he passed through Lu Xin had already snatched a gun.

His speed was eerie and swift yet his movements and expression remained remarkably calm and composed creating a jarring sense of dissonance.

He inserted a magazine racked the slide and then stood before Zhao Hui.

    “You…”

Zhao Hui looked up sharply shocked and furious. “You dare…”

Before he could finish his words Lu Xin abruptly raised the gun and shot him sending him tumbling to the ground.

Everyone’s gaze snapped towards Lu Xin sheer terror filling their eyes.

    “Ah…”

Zhao Hui on the ground was even more terrified and bewildered. Intense pain flooded his mind.

Lu Xin however remained expressionless. He raised the gun aiming at Zhao Hui who was still struggling and trying to scream on the ground then pulled the trigger repeatedly. The sound of “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!” echoed ceaselessly. He kept firing until the entire magazine was empty.

Then he expressionlessly ejected the empty magazine and inserted a new one.

He aimed at Zhao Hui again and continued firing.

    “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!”

Bullet after bullet struck Zhao Hui until the magazine was empty once more.
