Chapter 340: Shattered Encounter
by xennovel*Swish!*
The moment the girl appeared everyone tensed up.
As Ability Users even if their specific powers differed their alertness to danger far surpassed ordinary people. Now having reached the high-rise building and supposedly cleared out most of the Black Table Ability Users and monsters listed in the materials encountering such a strange girl—especially after just learning the captain was dead—how could they not be nervous?
A dirty little white skirt bare feet and dense stitches visible all over her body.
In her hand was a dining knife still stained with blood slowly scraping against the car’s shell.
The sound was piercingly grating unsettling the nerves making hair stand on end.
The atmosphere suddenly became suffocating.
…
Unlike the others’ obvious caution and reactions Lu Xin seemed unchanged.
He simply turned the moment the little girl appeared his gaze fixed intently on her.
This girl looked remarkably like his sister just appearing a few years younger.
His sister didn’t have these dense stitches all over her body though.
But her white skirt bare feet and messy black hair stirred an odd sense of familiarity in him. A slight sting pulsed in his head his blood vessels faintly throbbing. He felt like he recognized something but wasn’t certain.
He suddenly couldn’t help but look beside him, “Do we know this girl?”
His voice startled the others who were fully focused bodies taut. Their eyes darted towards him.
Seeing Lu Xin frowning and speaking to the empty air beside him sent a chill down their spines.
“Is she… Is she her?”
The Screaming Chicken had fallen to the ground at some point. Sister pointed her small finger at the girl ahead.
Her expression was strange. She crouched low radiating a strange sense of agitation. Her small body twitched unnaturally. She stared at the girl for a moment crawled forward two steps but then retreated as if afraid of startling something.
She looked up at Lu Xin but her voice seemed uncertain.
Lu Xin saw the bewilderment in her eyes.
So he took a deep breath suppressed the unease in his heart and slowly walked forward.
*Screech…*
Seeing Lu Xin approach the little girl abruptly pulled back the dining knife in her hand.
The blade scraped against the car body making one last grating noise.
She held the knife defensively at her chest her hollow eyes under the black hair staring coldly at Lu Xin.
Lu Xin ignored her wary posture walking towards her somewhat dazedly his voice filled with confusion:
“Do… Do we know each other?”
…
*Swish…*
The instant Lu Xin asked the question the girl suddenly dashed forward.
Her tiny body moved so fast it was hard to even track her shadow.
Her swift movement stirred a cool breeze through the oppressive air.
Lu Xin only saw a blur before the girl appeared right in front of him less than twenty centimeters away.
The wind blew her hair back revealing her small face.
No amount of stitches or suture marks could erase the childlike innocence still lingering on her features.
Lu Xin instinctively reached out to push her away.
But the moment his hand reached for the girl she suddenly shattered into pieces. Every sewn part of her scattered outwards. The dense stitches stretched accordingly forming thin eerie red threads of blood.
The next moment a dining knife suddenly appeared behind Lu Xin stabbing viciously towards his neck.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
Faster than thought could follow.
Even Lu Xin didn’t realize that as the girl before him shattered a dining knife was slashing towards the back of his neck.
*Swish!*
But just as the knife was about to descend and cut Lu Xin’s neck Sister suddenly poked her head out from Lu Xin’s shoulder.
Her small hand shot out forcefully grabbing the dining knife.
Her hollow chilling gaze met the small face behind Lu Xin.
A pair of eyes mostly black with little white and a pair of eyes mostly white with little black stared at each other across Lu Xin’s shoulder.
Their features gradually contorted.
The next moment the girl vanished. The blood threads in the air hissed *shoo* *shoo* as her body reformed.
She reappeared on the wall of the nearby high-rise building maintaining a crouching position looking down at the crowd.
Lu Xin seemed to react only then turning his head to look at her.
The little girl on the wall was also looking back at him.
Both tilted their heads simultaneously faint popping sounds coming from their necks their gazes meeting mid-air.
The eerie feeling in Lu Xin’s heart intensified. He just felt…
So familiar…
…
“Not good! Everyone on guard…!”
It was also at this moment that Xia Chong reacted.
She urgently shouted a warning while quickly retreating to the side of her injured teammate.
The Doctor’s team’s eyes sharpened as they gathered together guns drawn or knives ready.
Chen Jing and Gecko hearts pounding simultaneously rushed to Lu Xin’s sides shouting warnings while drawing their weapons.
The abrupt scene moments ago appeared to them as Lu Xin seeing the strange little girl seemed completely oblivious to the danger and recklessly walked towards her. Then the little girl suddenly launched a killing blow.
They even saw under the distant lights the sharp glint of the knife slashing towards his neck.
Only for some unknown reason the dining knife didn’t cut Lu Xin’s neck.
And the little girl who was originally on the ground abruptly appeared on the nearby wall after that move.
That bizarre and incredibly fast movement startled every one of them.
They all shared a judgment.
If that monster-like little girl had rushed towards them just now they would have been killed instantly.
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
Countless bullets simultaneously shot towards the little girl on the wall exploding into clusters of blue electric arcs.
At the same time among the Doctor’s team the member with wandering eyes dressed in mental patient’s clothes rushed forward with distorted eerie movements. Using a wrecked car shell as a springboard he leaped into the air grabbing for the lone red balloon floating there.
Since it was a signal sent by the Captain’s team before they died the balloon must contain a message left by them.
*Crack…*
As the bullets flew the little girl on the wall instantly shifted her attention.
Her body swayed left and right dodging three or four special bullets that hit the wall then her legs bent slightly.
The next moment she leaped down from the wall swift as a phantom.
Her small body surprisingly contained immense power.
The concrete wall behind her was even dented with two small spiderweb-shaped craters concrete debris raining down.
Her figure flickered under the Red Moon the sharp dining knife gleaming coldly as it slashed straight for Xia Chong’s neck.
In this sudden attack Xia Chong couldn’t even clearly see her trajectory.
Her usually expressionless face muscles tightened to the extreme. In that split second of life and death she instinctively had a thought—ignore the incoming blade but suddenly reach out her hand beside her as if pulling something in front of her.
*Tsk*
The dining knife grazed past Xia Chong’s neck making a faint sound but Xia Chong suffered no substantial damage.
It was as if something invisible had blocked the space between the blade and Xia Chong’s neck.
With two soft thuds this thing was cut in half and fell to the ground.
But looking at the ground there was still nothing there.
Simultaneously Xia Chong clasped her hands together the air around her faintly influenced as two things invisible to others rapidly charged towards the little girl. But just as they rushed over the little girl had already vanished from her spot.
Blood threads floated in the air connected to the little girl’s body.
These red blood threads seemed to allow her to appear anywhere by pulling on each other.
*Tsk* *Tsk…*
Two crisp sounds echoed as the little girl landed on the ground ten meters away from the crowd her small body crouched low like a beast.
Blood dripped from the dining knife.
Xia Chong suddenly sensed something her body trembling slightly.
Turning around she saw a thin line of blood appearing on her teammate’s throat.
And on the other side the patient who had grabbed the red balloon and was handing it to the Doctor also froze.
The muscles on his face writhed as if trying to form a smile.
But the muscle movement instead caused a distinct crack to appear across his face.
*Splat!*
Half of his head slid off gently splattering red and white matter.
…
“Gulp… This…”
Gecko swallowed hard his voice trembling slightly.
He looked at the little girl as if he’d seen a ghost.
He couldn’t fathom how this little girl had managed to swiftly kill two people before he could even clearly see what happened.
Beside him Lu Xin also turned his head stunned.
Perhaps because his mind was in turmoil the scene before his eyes kept expanding and shrinking.
Scene after scene leaped into view incredibly clear yet seemingly distant.
He saw the strange plump white bugs with single horns on their heads slowly retracting beside Xia Chong.
There were three such bugs. One lay at Xia Chong’s feet already sliced in half.
He also saw Xia Chong’s teammate behind her the one who already had a broken leg slowly collapsing.
He even saw two members of the Doctor’s team rushing towards their teammate their faces simultaneously contorting.
It was a bloody gruesome scene yet exceptionally familiar.
…
*Thump thump! Thump thump!*
Lu Xin’s heart beat faster and faster pounding against his ribs as if trying to leap out of his chest.
For the first time he felt an unusual heaviness in his body.
He subconsciously spoke his voice sounding somewhat unfamiliar, “You can’t kill anymore…”
As his voice sounded the little girl holding the dining knife was staring intently at everyone present with an oddly focused gaze.
Her gaze swept from the furious Xia Chong and the two agonized members of the Doctor’s team to Gecko whose hair was practically standing on end and then to Chen Jing who was gripping her gun tightly her face cold giving off a faint sense of threat.
The blood threads behind her suddenly fanned out into the air like blooming crimson flowers.
She suddenly charged again her eyes fixed on Chen Jing.
*Hiss…*
The blade cut through the air slashing towards Chen Jing’s neck. But at the same time she saw Chen Jing’s pupils turning slightly red.
At this moment Chen Jing seemed to be struggling to look at her.
Realizing the danger she instantly changed direction twisting her head to avoid Chen Jing’s eyes.
The dining knife in her hand however carved an arc stabbing towards Gecko’s chest.
Gecko was Spider-type his reaction speed surpassed most people present but even he could only watch the dining knife slice towards his chest. He felt that even if he dodged with all his might he would still be a fraction slower than the blade…
He truly felt a sense of despair his eyes unexpectedly becoming slightly moist in that instant.
…
*Chak…*
In that very instant a hand suddenly reached out from a bizarrely sharp angle clamping down hard on the girl’s neck.
The force was so immense it slammed her straight onto the ground.
Lu Xin looked down into her eyes gritting his teeth slightly and said instinctively, “I said you can’t kill anymore didn’t you hear me?”
