Chapter Index

    “What’s going on?”

When the Doctor’s warning sounded, Xia Chong and the others felt a surge of foreboding.

The Doctor’s senses were the sharpest, allowing him to detect the surrounding danger and issue a timely warning. The reason he only yelled “Run!” at Xia Chong wasn’t because the danger was focused on her, but because Xia Chong was closest to the door at that moment.

She could quickly open the door and escape.

But the others, caught in the middle of the net, had already lost their chance.

Although the others couldn’t see the filaments, they saw the girl’s reaction and the look in the Doctor’s eyes, instantly guessing what was happening. The determination they’d mustered just moments ago to risk implementing the plan plummeted, replaced by despair.

    “Don’t move.”

Just then, Lu Xin’s voice came from nearby.

His voice wasn’t loud or forceful, just a calm warning to the others: “Don’t move.”

In her urgency, Chen Jing could only whirl around and make a sharp gesture to everyone.

Out of trust for their colleague, Xia Chong and the Doctor simultaneously forced themselves under control and turned to look at Lu Xin.

Their eyes were filled with terror, their expressions caught between confusion and despair.

    “Twang…”

At the same time, the girl floating in the air slowly opened her mouth.

The filament she held taut snapped downwards, setting the entire web of threads vibrating.

The Ability Users present, relying on their enhanced senses, all felt as if sharp knives were slicing towards them.

It was also at this exact moment that Lu Xin suddenly raised his hand.

He reached into the seemingly empty air and clenched his fist hard.

With a buzzing sound, the air around his palm distorted and vibrated to varying degrees.

Simultaneously, a vortex-like illusion appeared before him.

Lu Xin grabbed the filaments in the air and pulled backwards.

The distorted air around him instantly spread outwards in all directions from the point he grasped.

Its speed was immense, even faster than the speed at which the filaments contracted.

Therefore, by the time all the filaments were about to cut into Chen Jing, Xia Chong, the Doctor, and the others present, they had already become distorted, rendered powerless. Lu Xin pulled all the filaments towards himself, crumpling them into a messy ball.

Those who had been trapped in the middle of the net felt a sensation like blades scraping across their skin.

An unnerving shiver stimulated their pores, making them stand on end.

    “Zero Ability User?”

Xia Chong blurted out upon seeing Lu Xin’s action.

They had previously analyzed that the ones most capable of restraining this girl were the Captain’s team.

Because that team, jokingly called the “Circus” by colleagues, included a Distortion-type Ability User, a Domination-type Ability User, and the Captain himself, a “Zero Ability User.”

A Zero Ability User, as the name suggests, is an Ability User who possesses no inherent ability.

Captain Li was a Zero Ability User.

He didn’t gain abilities through Mental Alteration but acquired immense Psychic Power through Experimental Strengthening.

Therefore, he could only use characteristics inherent to mental power itself.

Such as Mental Impact and the Distorted Force Field.

The Captain’s most well-known abilities were precisely these two. Whether he had a third, no one had ever heard him mention.

He hadn’t demonstrated it in his earlier fight with the little girl either.

It was unknown if he didn’t have one or simply didn’t have time to use it.

But clearly, what Lu Xin had just used was the same ability as Captain Li.

    Distorted Force Field.

Spreading one’s mental power within a certain area to create an abnormal distortion.

Within the range of this mental power radiation, everything would develop a characteristic tending towards the source of the mental power radiation.

How strong this characteristic was depended on the mental power of the person releasing the Distorted Force Field.

Lu Xin had used this method to save everyone present.

    “Crash…”

Just as Lu Xin yanked the filaments and saved Chen Jing and the others.

The little girl in the air, who had shattered into pieces with a cold expression, suddenly reformed and fell heavily, crashing onto the ground beside the high-rise building. She hit the ground so hard that spiderweb-like cracks appeared in the concrete.

    “Hiss… ah…”

An expression of pain and anger seemed to appear on the face of the little girl in the white dress. She instantly pushed herself up again.

    “Tap tap tap…”

Sudden rapid footsteps echoed nearby as five or six dark figures quickly charged towards the building.

When the light fell upon them, it revealed the insignia of the Central City Special Action Team pinned to their chests. The two leading figures were a man in an exquisite suit, seemingly without a single wrinkle, and a woman in a black skirt studded with shiny rivets, wearing smoky makeup, exuding a strong gothic vibe, and holding a long whip.

Behind the man in the exquisite suit, a team member held a black videotape.

They were the Central City Ability User team that had entered the city from the west of Water Buffalo City after Lu Xin and the others.

However, unlike Lu Xin’s group, when faced with the influence of the “Memories” in the city center, they chose not to ignore the Pollution and pass through the illusory street as quickly as possible. Instead, they followed the clues, tracing the source of this pollution.

Eventually, they found the room and killed the surveillance personnel.

They had also obtained the videotape.

The other team was the Support Team, which had detected the disappearance of the Circus team’s life signs and rushed over immediately.

    “What is that?”

They were all startled upon seeing the little girl in the white dress collapsed in the corner.

Without thinking, they drew their firearms loaded with special bullets and aimed at the little girl. “Don’t move!”

But the little girl in the white dress completely ignored them and scrambled to her feet again.

    “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!” “Bang!”

Without hesitation, they immediately opened fire. Bullets whistled towards the little girl.

They were using special weapons; blue electric arcs flashed as the bullets left the barrels, faintly weaving into a net.

Under these circumstances, no matter how fast the little girl was, she would be caught in the net.

    “Stop.”

But at that moment, Lu Xin’s face twisted, struggling, appearing both angry and worried.

As the roar escaped him, he had already lifted his foot and stomped hard on the ground.

    “Buzz!”

The air around him, distorted by the radiation of his mental power, instantly spread outwards in all directions.

    Mental Impact.

The instant his shoe sole hit the ground, the dust, the gravel, even the splattered blood on the ground were momentarily vibrated about ten centimeters off the ground, tracing an arc as they instantly spread outwards for dozens of meters.

    “Clang clang…”

The bullets rushing towards the little girl were instantly twisted off course.

As if blown by a fierce wind, they slammed into the nearby building, erupting into a dazzling electric net.

Simultaneously, the little girl, who had just stood up, collapsed again.

    “What the hell?”

The two teams that had just arrived were simultaneously shocked, turning their weapons towards Lu Xin.

    “Don’t shoot!”

At this moment, Xia Chong shouted urgently, stopping them.

In another direction, the little girl in the white dress, knocked down by the force of Lu Xin’s stomp, showed a cold and furious look in her pupils, where the black overwhelmed the white. She bounced up once more, and her body began to show signs of splitting.

    “Don’t move!”

Lu Xin turned his head towards her, a low growl rumbling in his throat as he took a step towards her.

    “Boom!”

The Distorted Force Field swept over again, pressing down heavily on the girl, pinning her back into the corner.

Beneath her, the concrete shattered into fragments.

The powerful distorting mental power pressed down on her like layer upon layer of flowing water.

Her slender and fragile bones emitted cracking sounds, as if each one was about to break under the pressure.

    “Kekeke…”

Facing this pressure, she still struggled to lift her head.

Her lips stretched wide, revealing rows of sharp teeth.

Traces of crimson appeared in her black pupils.

Seemingly fearless, she still moved her slender limbs, pushing herself up against the distorting force. She even grabbed the dining knife that had fallen beside her, glaring fiercely at Lu Xin who was walking closer.

    “Swish…”

She leaped up again, lunging towards Lu Xin.

But just then, Lu Xin happened to take another step, and the Distorted Force Field instantly suppressed her once more.

    Stronger each time.

Not only was she completely pinned in the corner, but the dining knife in her hand also clattered backwards, landing beside her cheek. The two teams that had just arrived felt a heavy pressure washing over them and quickly retreated in alarm.

The girl’s bones felt like they were about to shatter.

But she still struggled, stretching out her hand, trying to stand up, trying to grab the nearby dagger.

When Lu Xin reached her, she had just managed to painstakingly grasp the dagger and simultaneously turned her head to look at him.

Lu Xin looked down at her, his face hidden in the darkness.

His expression couldn’t be seen, only a dangerous, chilling aura radiating from him.

The girl used all her strength, gripping the dining knife with her already somewhat twisted arm, and pulled it out.

She struggled to aim the dining knife at Lu Xin.

Then, at that moment, Lu Xin suddenly bent down, reached out his arms, and pulled her into an embrace.

The girl’s movements abruptly froze, astonishment and bewilderment appearing on her face for what seemed like the first time.

    “I’m sorry.”

Lu Xin held her tightly, whispering, “I forgot about you, Little Nineteen.”

    Chapter Summary

Lu Xin intervenes just as the mysterious girl's filament attack is about to strike Chen Jing and the others. He uses a 'Distorted Force Field' similar to Captain Li's, neutralizing the threads and saving his team. As the girl collapses and reforms, two other Central City teams arrive – one having tracked the 'Memory' pollution source, the other responding to the Circus team's disappearance. They almost shoot the girl, but Lu Xin deflects their special bullets with a 'Mental Impact'. He then repeatedly suppresses the resisting girl with overwhelming mental pressure until she's pinned. Instead of finishing her, Lu Xin embraces her, calling her 'Little Nineteen'.
