Chapter Index

    “?”

I wonder if the Secondary Pollution Source has enough consciousness.

But if it did, a question mark should be floating above her head right now.

Her face was still somewhat twisted, her eyes burning with a fanatical, furious expression, as if she wanted to kill these two ‘brothers’ who weren’t working. But seeing Lu Xin suddenly appear before her and say such a thing, she clearly paused for a moment, her already crimson eyes fixed on him.

Then she suddenly screamed, “Work! Work! Damn it! Damn it…”

Her voice was slightly hoarse, sounding somewhat similar to that of the factory manager, Zheng Yuanxiong, who had already fainted.

As she screamed, the crazed Workers behind her became even more frenzied, charging forward with all their might. In their current state, they couldn’t rationally dismantle the racks Lu Xin had pulled down, so they desperately tore at them with their bare hands, heedless of how many people around them might be crushed. They gnawed with their teeth, completely unconcerned about cutting their mouths.

Even further away, Zheng Yuanxiong, who was already wearing the glass hood, seemed to show faint signs of waking up.

Seeing this, a complicated feeling arose in Lu Xin’s heart.

This little girl reminded him of himself, and also of his Sister beside him.

Since Zheng Yuanxiong could split off such a Secondary Polluted Body, could his own Family be the same?

So, he spoke to this girl to see if she would be like his Sister.

Unfortunately, this girl seemed completely irrational, unlike his Sister who could talk and communicate.

    This left him somewhat helpless.

Dealing with this little girl was actually very simple.

He also knew that if he didn’t deal with her soon, the situation would only worsen. If all the workers in this factory started to escape, it would mean the Pollution was spreading, which wouldn’t be good for anyone…

But looking at this little girl, he had a strange feeling.

Perhaps this little girl wasn’t real, but hadn’t he seen plenty of unreal people?

He didn’t know how he would feel if he dealt with this little girl.

    “Did you stop him?”

Just then, Tie Cui’s anxious voice came through the channel.

But Gecko, while dealing with the crazed workers and darting all over the walls, seemed hesitant. He had long held an iron wire ball ready in his hand, and seconds ago, he’d had the chance to throw it and bind Lu Xin. This was part of his plan: if things got desperate, he would have to restrain Lu Xin first and forcibly take him away…

This Pollution Source would have to wait for Doll to handle.

As for the workers in this factory…

The reason Mental Pollution Sources were so hated and feared was precisely because of such unavoidable casualties.

However, he still hadn’t actually made a move because he felt somewhat doubtful.

    “Don’t stop him yet…”

Hearing the urging on the channel, he whispered, “He didn’t attack directly…”

    “Didn’t attack?”

This time, it was Tie Cui’s turn to be confused. “Then how is he going to deal with this Pollution Source?”

Gecko murmured, ensuring he could still stop Lu Xin at any moment, “Looks like… negotiation?”

While Gecko and Tie Cui were filled with anxiety and worry, Lu Xin was also troubled.

Sister seemed increasingly unable to restrain herself.

Her eyes stared darkly at the little girl, glittering intently beneath her messy black hair.

Behind him, the crazed workers had almost torn apart the wooden rack and were about to swarm in.

Yet, the little girl before him was still frantically roaring questions at him.

    “Why aren’t you working?”

    “Why aren’t you working?”

“People who don’t work deserve to die…”

    “Deserve to die!”

After listening to her for a while, even Lu Xin faintly felt like he wasn’t working hard enough.

At the same time, a sense of irritation filled him, making him want to just grab her and then…

This anger grew stronger, almost breaking through Lu Xin’s rationality.

But just then, a sigh echoed.

Suddenly, the incandescent lamps overhead buzzed, the light flickering.

The surrounding machinery also seemed to stutter, their roaring rotations slowing considerably.

A voice drifted out softly, “Sigh, looking at you two siblings, you really aren’t suited for handling these things…”

Lu Xin turned his head in surprise and saw Mom.

She wore a tasteful white suit, a pearl necklace around her neck, and an exquisite ladies’ wide-brimmed hat on her head. A satchel hung from her arm, and she wore black high heels. She looked as if she had just been shopping with someone and had wandered here unintentionally, slowly walking out from the depths of the factory building. The flickering lights added an air of mystery to her.

    “This…”

Lu Xin was clearly surprised, not expecting Mom to appear here.

“You’re so grown up, yet you’ve never even dated. How would you know how to raise a child?”

Mom didn’t say much more to him, just gave a light smile and slowly walked forward.

    “Work! Work! Wo—”

The girl had been screaming, twisted and crazed, but her voice suddenly stopped as if sensing a huge threat.

A growl rumbled in her throat as she stared intently at Mom before her.

“Little sister, at your age, you shouldn’t be thinking about work, oh…”

Mom knelt gently in front of the little girl, smiling softly. “Why aren’t you going to school?”

The girl watched her warily, seemingly filled with intense hostility.

“What kind of irresponsible father would constantly instill the idea that such a young child must work? And what kind of muddled father wouldn’t even be able to take care of his own daughter, letting her have an accident because of work?”

Mom spoke gently, as if feeling sorry for her.

In the distance, Zheng Yuanxiong, tied up and unconscious, suddenly began to convulse violently.

“Clearly, it was his own inability to care for her that led to his daughter’s death. Yet, in his heart, he still thinks he was doing it for her good, that he was working frantically to take better care of her and give her a better life. He even thinks his daughter should understand him, that she would definitely support his work. What kind of selfish person must one be to have such thoughts?”

Mom continued speaking, her posture elegant, her tone soft.

A hint of confusion seemed to appear on the little girl’s face.

But she stared hard at the woman before her, and gradually, the fanatical and furious expression regained dominance.

    “Work! Wo—”

Her shout rang out again, but only for that one syllable.

    Because Mom’s expression had hardened.

But just as quickly, the smile returned to her face. She slowly reached her hand towards the girl. The girl seemed scared, shrinking back slightly, but Mom’s hand still reached her, taking the plush toy from her arms.

Then, her other hand reached into her satchel and pulled out a pair of scissors.

“Little children need to be obedient, oh. Otherwise…”

She smiled gently, her eyes on the girl, as the scissors neared the plush toy.

    “Snip.”

The plush toy’s head fell off, tumbling bit by bit to land at the little girl’s feet.

The little girl’s fanatical expression froze instantly on her face.

Mom still watched her gently, but her voice held a slight chill. “Are you an obedient, good child?”

Hearing her gentle words, the little girl finally lost control. An expression of terror appeared on her face. Suddenly, she threw herself backward with all her might, then instantly dissipated. In the distance, the convulsing Zheng Yuanxiong abruptly fell still.

Throughout the factory building, the crazed workers instantly stopped their actions.

    Utter silence fell.
