Chapter 620: Full Throttle Through Chaos
by xennovelSpeeding along the wide, smooth road, Lu Xin felt an unexpected lightness in his heart.
He knew that boldly invading someone else’s cargo passage meant entering their internal transport network and that a massive blockade was inevitable. Yet, he felt no pressure because he hadn’t really done anything wrong…
After all, as long as there’s a road beneath the wheels and money ahead, isn’t that a pretty good deal?
With that thought, he accelerated even faster as the Steel Monster roared excitedly and surged forward.
However, there was no detailed road map reflected on his glasses’ lenses.
He could tell that from his current position to Flame City was roughly over 800 kilometers. Considering the winding paths, the journey would easily top a thousand kilometers.
If there were no major delays along the way, he’d arrive in about a day.
The tantalizing prospect of the remaining three million in final payment lifted Lu Xin’s mood even higher.
Wah wah wah…
The Steel Monster roared as it barreled forward, radiating sheer exhilaration.
It charged forward with unstoppable force.
Yet, even the best-laid plans can hit a snag. Despite Lu Xin’s intention to mind his own business on the journey from Qinggang, he still ended up falling into an unforeseen ditch…
Even on the open road, a minor mishap soon occurred.
At the service area ahead, a dense mass of armed personnel blocked his path.
These troops looked far more disciplined than those at the checkpoint over at Kaishao.
At first glance, there were at least twenty of them, dressed in uniform tactical gear and armed, all hiding behind makeshift barricades and aiming at the oncoming Lu Xin. One man with shoulder patches bellowed through a megaphone:
“All vehicles ahead, stop immediately for inspection…”
“We are the Flame Company West Area Traffic Road Enforcement Team, C Division, here to maintain order.”
“You are violating Flame regulations. Pull over immediately for inspection…”
“…”
“Brother, brother, need some help this time?”
His Sister appeared beside the steering wheel, her face pressed against the windshield as she gazed out with evident excitement.
In the back seat, Father’s silhouette loomed, with only a pair of blood-red eyes distinctly visible in the shadows. He glared at the dense crowd ahead and let out a hollow, chilling laugh, “Since you broke through, you don’t mind a little help, do you?”
“No.”
Lu Xin flatly refused both his Sister and Father, retorting, “You wouldn’t even get the car out of a ditch, so how on earth can you help?”
Glancing at Father through the rearview mirror, he added, “You’re so reckless when you get started…”
Both Father and Sister looked surprised, rolling their eyes at him.
While exchanging those looks, Lu Xin turned his attention back to the road ahead.
He hadn’t slowed down at all, and the armed blockade ahead was visibly growing more tense.
They had clearly received updates from their contact. Realizing they were facing a Steel Monster loaded with heavy firepower, they saw him daringly ignore the warnings and charge ahead, immediately signaling his subordinates to open fire.
Lu Xin saw row after row of ominous gun muzzles—and even noticed several rocket launchers being raised…
“Their firepower is intense…”
Lu Xin murmured as he grabbed his Black Bag and dumped its contents onto the passenger seat.
A jumble of items quickly piled up as he pulled out several objects and arranged them one by one.
They included the 12-layer Puzzle Cube, a bloodstained set of Playing Cards, the scarred Six Senses Mask, and a Memory Hourglass that surprisingly remained intact after days in the bag, along with his glasses—a total of five parasitic items.
“Time for you to shine,” he said, giving them a gentle command.
At that moment, he suddenly floored the accelerator. The Steel Monster surged forward, roaring as it charged ahead.
“Oh no, they’re breaking through…”
“Damn, what a madman…”
“Open fire…”
“…”
Seeing the blockade stir into a frenzy, the Commander tossed his megaphone aside and bellowed.
In that instant, countless fingers gripped their triggers tightly.
Bullets rained down like torrents, with blazing tongues of fire surging towards the vehicle.
For a fleeting moment, time itself seemed to slow.
Inside the car, the atmosphere became peculiarly charged.
Without managing to seize an opportunity, Sister idly rested her little feet on Lu Xin’s steering wheel. Father, simmering with restrained anger, watched Lu Xin drive ahead, while the parasitic items exchanged glances, as if deeply engaged in a silent, fierce dialogue.
Time felt neither long nor short.
Just as bullets were about to engulf the car, a commanding shout suddenly erupted.
“Woof woof…”
In the next instant, Lu Xin felt a slight tremor in his glasses as his vision caught sight of a vicious, skinless dog—bare, bloody, its muscles and veins horrifically exposed—that leaped fiercely from above the car’s front. It allowed bullets to pierce its body, plunging into the enemy ranks.
“Awoooo…”
The beast viciously bit everyone in the crowd while emitting a ferocious, almost gleeful cry.
In an instant, an overwhelming surge of bizarre emotions rippled through the armed men.
They were shocked and bewildered, fixated solely on the vehicle barreling down the road. They couldn’t even see the skinless beast charging forward, nor could they feel any pain from its bites…
Instead, when bitten, they were overwhelmed by a jumble of strange, chaotic emotions.
The Commander, seeing the car come straight at him, was hit with a profound sense of disrespect and shouted in fury:
“You dare barge in like that? You think you’re better than us?!”
“No dodging—get in front of it now!”
“…”
“What the hell is this?!”
Meanwhile, around them, those armed men who had been eagerly following the Commander’s orders to shoot now found themselves struck by an indescribable disdain. Their composure shattered, feeling severely wronged:
“That bastard usually sleeps with his own wife, and now he expects me to risk my life blocking traffic?!”
Without a word, one of them spun around, pointing his gun at the Commander, “Why the hell don’t you lead the charge yourself?”
On the other side, someone suddenly dropped his gun and shrieked with his headset on, “How can you shoot? You’re too cruel!”
Another threw a punch at his neighbor, “Stealing my Red Braised Pork at lunch—I haven’t forgotten that!”
Some cried out tearfully, “Stop fighting, I’ve loved you all for so long. Don’t you see?”
…
Chaos erupted suddenly like a detonating fuse on a powder keg.
What had once been a synchronized volley of bullets turned into disorganized silence. Even the rocket launchers aimed at the Steel Monster clattered to the ground.
Every armed man revealed a side of vulnerability, agitation, or anger—a display of raw personality.
Amid the fray among allies, no one paid heed to the charging vehicle anymore.
The Skinless Dog seized the moment, dashing forward to snatch up a traffic barrier from the ground, clearing the blockade.
In the next moment, the Steel Monster slammed heavily into a barricade built of sandbags, sending sand and debris flying along with its bag contents.
Amid screams and shouts, it barreled forward, leaving behind a turbulent trail of exhaust…
…
…
“Woof woof…”
Back inside the car, the Skinless Dog hopped onto the passenger seat, excitedly licking Lu Xin’s arm.
Then it barked authoritatively at the parasitic items up front:
“Well done…”
As Lu Xin maintained steady control of the vehicle, he glanced at the items ahead and said, “Have you learned your lesson?”
The parasitic items remained silent as the atmosphere in the car grew both electrified and bizarre.
Outside, as the Steel Monster roared ahead, the once desolate road quickly erupted into bustling chaos.
The riot behind had undoubtedly reached other drivers’ ears. No sooner had the blockage been breached for about half an hour than more convoys emerged from every direction, careening onto the cargo passage and recklessly charging forward.
In the distance, two helicopters even swooped in, bumping closer with a droning buzz.
“All vehicles below, pull over immediately for inspection…”
A voice crackled from the helicopter, shouting forcefully at the Steel Monster, though the transmission was intermittent.
“Rat-a-tat-tat…”
Seeing no response from the car, they grew unapologetic and fired two volleys of bullets.
The Steel Monster’s front and rear were suddenly flung chunks of road upward.
Dust and mud splattered everywhere as bullets pounded the car, leaving deep craters in its body.
One could only imagine the destruction these helicopter bullets could cause if they continuously pounded the car, eventually shredding the Steel Monster into pieces.
Yet Lu Xin remained unfazed. He glanced at the helicopters overhead and then at a densely packed tunnel ahead.
A plan formed in his mind. He sharply decelerated to match the pace of the vehicles behind and, in unison, they charged into the tunnel.
As the surroundings plunged into darkness, he looked at the row of parasitic items on the windshield. Under his gaze, the 12-layer Puzzle Cube began to tremble autonomously, its black and white squares spinning along different trajectories.
“Phew…”
The tunnel was only a few dozen meters long, and they sped through it in an instant.
But the helicopters above suddenly fell silent, and the surrounding vehicles descended into chaos.
“Where’s the car that broke through?”
They all bellowed into their walkie-talkies, their voices laced with shock, panic, and even a hint of fear.
The tracked vehicle they had been following was nowhere to be seen; all around were vehicles identical to their own.
With no one chasing or being chased, everyone moved forward in perfect unison, as if they were on a joyride.
Inside the driver’s cab, Lu Xin glanced at the 12-layer Puzzle Cube and nodded in satisfaction.
The cube shuddered slightly, as if displaying a mix of surprise and delight.
Its dense, alternating black and white squares carefully aligned to form a smiling face—one that looked both flattering and fawning directly at Lu Xin.
