Chapter Index

Outside, the bizarre beings are both numerous and fierce.

Father left not long ago; by the timeline, he hasn’t regained enough strength yet.

The crucial point is that if he’s suddenly summoned, it’s uncertain whether he’ll be ready in time.

After all, connections between mental creatures are usually established through the Abyss.

And the abysses surrounding these Ruined Research Institute grounds have already been sealed off by the First Researcher—or rather, the Black Spade Office.

Lu Xin’s mental power in the real world isn’t enough to bridge the gap and contact his father.

Mom is resting; her previous injuries were quite severe.

Though Lu Xin feels he could awaken her, he knows her temperament all too well.

If she could come on her own, she already would have.

Forcing her wakefulness would certainly take a heavy toll on her.

So, it’s up to him now…

After tying his shoelaces, Lu Xin silently pondered as he gazed beyond the Institute.

Indeed, the eerie forces outside the Institute are not only numerous but also quite formidable.

But he is part of that same strangeness too…

    ……

    ……

    “Let’s go!”

Once everyone was ready, Lu Xin stepped out first, treading on the withered leaves covering the ground.

Since they had agreed to rush out together, he naturally took the central position.

After all, isn’t his ability the strongest?

“Consultants and such—I guess I’m just not cut out for that…”

“So it’s better to stick to being a bodyguard or even a guard…”

    ……

    “Hey… don’t go so fast…”

At that moment, as Lu Xin moved outward, Doctor An couldn’t help but call his name.

Judging by her expression, she seemed to want him to hide behind her.

But Lu Xin only laughed, shaking his head and quickening his pace.

As he advanced, he began to vividly recall that ferocious feeling from before.

Before he decided who he wanted to be, he was often on the verge of losing control.

Whenever he neared that state, a sense of invincibility would arise—even making him disdain others.

Recalling that sensation still fills him with dread.

Yet he must admit, when that feeling struck, he truly felt immensely powerful.

Now, he needed that state more than ever.

“I always thought someone was managing me, calling me a model worker, calling me the little handsome guy…”

    “But who am I, really?”

    ……

Just as that thought began to rise, Lu Xin suddenly widened his eyes, and black particles started trembling uncontrollably.

    “Roar…”

Outside, a massive horde of mental creatures and madmen had already gathered.

It’s hard to imagine so many different types of mental monsters coexisting, all aligned on the same side.

Lu Xin could see the blood-red eyes of demented beings and the twisted, patchwork bodies of bizarre creatures.

They had long coveted him, their claws and fangs poised for attack.

Because the forbidden power lingering within the Institute hadn’t yet vanished, they were ravenously crowding outside.

And the most greedy, the most frenzied among them couldn’t wait to cross the line and charge right at him.

    “Whoosh!”

At that instant, Lu Xin suddenly charged forward.

In a matter of strides, he reached the Institute’s main gate, with black particles frenetically trembling in his eyes.

    “Buzz…”

The next instant, a massive mental impact swept forward like a raging windstorm.

Outside, a significant number of mental monsters had already instinctively extended their claws, tentacles, and strands of mental energy, as if eager to seize him.

Yet all they encountered was his overwhelming mental impact.

Lu Xin’s mental power manifested as a tangible force—like a frenzied meat grinder.

In the blink of an eye, every claw and tentacle that neared him was pulverized.

Without pausing even a moment, the impact continued to press forward, crushing everything in its path.

One after another, the mental monsters erupted in agonized shrieks.

Their bodies were torn asunder piece by piece, falling apart and transforming into pure mental turbulence that churned in the air.

Prompted once again by Lu Xin’s impact, a terrifying maelstrom surged forth, relentlessly spreading and tearing everything apart.

To onlookers, the twisted, dreadful ripples of air outside the Institute suddenly formed a gaping breach.

In Lu Xin’s view, shattered limbs and splatters of dark blood clumped together in mid-air.

This single mental impact even reduced a few of the directly hit demented beings to mere fragments.

The stench of blood and slaughter filled the space around them.

    Exhilarating.

    ……

    ……

    “Crash…”

Against this brutal, blood-soaked backdrop, Lu Xin burst out of the Institute into an endless expanse of eerie chaos.

The surrounding bizarre forces immediately recoiled from him, forming a fountain-like circular retreat.

But almost instantly, a mix of awe and raw, instinctual greed drove another wave toward him; in the air, grinning faces and grotesque, segmented serpent-like forms surged forward.

Yet after leaving the Institute, Lu Xin suddenly halted, and the air around him twisted dramatically.

    A Distorted Force Field.

Initially spanning about ten meters in diameter, it rapidly expanded into a twisted force field nearly two hundred meters wide.

    “Crick-crack…”

The unmistakable sound of bones twisting rang out instantly.

All the creatures rushing toward Lu Xin—those still greedily observing and those already retreating—became ensnared by the force field.

In that moment, time seemed to freeze for them.

Like insects trapped in amber, their flesh was slowly crushed and twisted into a pretzel-like shape.

Outside the Institute, a transparent arc spanning two hundred meters appeared.

Within the arc, a surreal display unfolded as various mental monsters contorted in bizarre poses, akin to an odd yoga session.

    “Hiss…”

Following close behind, Doctor An and the others were stunned by the magnificent scene, their faces instantly turning to expressions of terror.

    “I…”

Doctor An couldn’t help but feel a chill: “Even though I knew the extent of his power, his inherent kindness made me forget just how terrifying a monster of his caliber can be when pushed to the limit…”

    The others nodded in agreement.

Dr. Zhang and Dr. Wang leaned closely together, subconsciously nudging Master Li away.

    “Whoosh!”

Just then, Lu Xin suddenly turned back.

Those pitch-black eyes, with quivering black particles within, locked onto Doctor An with an icy, detached gaze.

    “Hiss…”

Doctor An shuddered as his skin broke out in goosebumps from that stare.

Only then did he realize that everyone was trapped within Lu Xin’s distorted force field—he could hear every sound.

That included the voices calling him a monster.

And at the slightest shift of his intent, every single one of them would be crushed by this force.

    “Hehe…”

But just as the bitterness of his thoughts was about to overwhelm him, Lu Xin suddenly smiled as he looked toward her.

    “Yes, I am the monster.”

    ……

Smiling, he spun around and dashed forward.

As he moved, the force field shifted with him; numerous mental monsters and demented beings that broke free from it suddenly fell from mid-air, landing as soft, bizarre shapes on the ground.

Bones, organs, every solid part was utterly crushed.

Ahead of him, in the direction the field advanced, unearthly roars that didn’t quite sound human erupted.

Soon, massive, abrupt ripples in the air appeared—some circular, others like a waterfall surging violently—colliding head-on with Lu Xin’s advancing force field.

    Mental Overlord.

These were mental monsters of at least the Mental Overlord level, hidden among the bizarre forces.

Only they could generate their own mental impacts or force fields to hinder Lu Xin’s advance, continuously battering him in an attempt to break or drain his force field.

Normally, such mental monsters would exist only in the Abyss.

Each one that ventured into the real world faced immense resistance, with reality’s forces restraining them.

But no one knew why so many mental monsters had appeared here.

It seemed someone had deliberately unleashed them.

“But I am more than just a monster…”

Amidst the crisscrossing mental force fields and impacts from all directions, Lu Xin’s voice suddenly rang out clearly through the field, reaching everyone’s ears.

In the next instant, he charged forward, his right hand turning ghostly pale as he forcefully reached out.

Almost instantly, his right wrist became entwined in ring-like structures of shattered, spatial energy, extending into the unknown.

    “Crack-crack-crack…”

Then, a colossal sound of spatial compression roared, crushing everyone’s eardrums.

Next to Lu Xin, a huge, pitch-black object appeared; beneath the glow of the Red Moon overhead, every member of the investigation team—and even the more aware mental monsters—watched in stunned awe.

It was an old building, emerging from an unknown dimension, firmly planted within the scene.

Meanwhile, in that old building and along its floors, every window burst open with loud bangs.

Inside, various bizarre shapes were revealed, along with several faces identical to Lu Xin’s.

Then, gigantic tentacles, scaled claws, eerie silk strands, and serpent-like necks began to extend from the windows.

All sorts of unnatural versions of Lu Xin emerged.

Amid a cacophony of manic and desperate laughter, roars, and shrieks, they lunged toward the mental monsters—those at Mental Overlord level, who could at least somewhat affect Lu Xin—seizing the desperate and dragging them into the old building as if staging a surreal hunt.

    ……

    ……

    “Smack…”

    “Crick…”

    “Gurrr…”

The sounds of greed, crisp chewing, and licking filled the air; inside the old building, a grotesque feast seemed to be underway.

Amid these chilling sounds, Lu Xin slightly raised his head and looked at the Red Moon.

His expression was strangely entranced as he murmured, “I am still a tyrant…”

“I love the sensation of destroying things…”
