Chapter Index

    “What happened?”

Watching the scene unfold on the screen Lu Xin suddenly felt a chill run down his spine.

Even through the screen he could sense something extremely strange.

Beside him Chen Jing’s expression also changed abruptly. Just then the satellite phone next to her hand suddenly rang. In the dead silence the ringtone seemed like the only anomaly in a frozen picture.

At some point the people on the screen had all turned their heads looking towards the camera.

And around Lu Xin’s car behind the glass windows countless gazes seemed to converge on them.

    “Sudden mental pollution incident!”

Amidst the silence Chen Jing suddenly yelled into the walkie-talkie, “Retreat immediately!”

As she shouted she wrenched the steering wheel hard while simultaneously slamming the gas pedal to the floor. The high-performance almost beast-like Jeep suddenly made an impossible turn forcibly swerving and crushing the rear end of the Jeep in front. Then the monster charged ferociously towards the roadside guardrail.

Due to the chaos up ahead many vehicles had piled up boxing them in on all sides.

It seemed they were trapped but Chen Jing had already scanned their surroundings in that instant. Only the upper left offered a gap between two cars. She aimed the vehicle intending to force her way through. This way both cars would only be knocked aside rather than being T-boned by the Jeep. The lives inside could be spared and she could escape the congested main road.

The flimsy metal guardrail couldn’t withstand the Jeep’s impact.

Beyond the guardrail lay steps dropping about a meter down followed by a drainage ditch.

With the Jeep’s high performance and high chassis clearing the steps and ditch should be simple enough.

Everything happened in a flash; Chen Jing had made the right call.

But just as she made these decisions and acted on them the scene outside erupted into chaos. The girl who had been fanatically in love with the young man threw herself onto his motionless body earnestly and meticulously tearing at his flesh strictly fulfilling her promise to be with him. Her white wedding dress became stained red with blood spreading like ink blots.

    Like shocking roses blooming.

And the people around who had been dumbly watching the girl slowly turned to look at each other after their initial shock.

Then their gazes gradually turned fanatical.

    “Xiao Qin I love you…”

Someone suddenly yelled jumping into their own car embracing the woman in the passenger seat and kissing her frantically.

“Wife I love you wait for me to come back…”

Someone else violently started their car shouting crazily as they charged forward.

They didn’t care if anyone was in front of the car.

A chain reaction of chaos radiated outwards centered on the girl in the blood-stained wedding dress.

    Soon the chaos escalated completely.

During this only a few people with a lonely air stood blankly in the middle seemingly unsure who to turn to.

However they were quickly swallowed by the other frenzied individuals.

“Sudden mental pollution incident at Jiujiang Road East side of Second Satellite City…”

“Send people over to clean up immediately!”

Fortunately Chen Jing reacted extremely quickly. Just as the chaos and madness began to spread the Jeep had already charged off the road.

Chen Jing yelled into the satellite phone while flooring the gas pedal aiming for a small side path.

However just then on the road a car that had remained conspicuously quiet suddenly opened its passenger door. A middle-aged man with a cigar dangling from his mouth stepped out. He wore a tattered leather jacket his hair was greasy and he had huge sunglasses covering his face. He pulled a black grenade launcher from the car and propped it on the roof.

He squinted one eye aiming at Chen Jing’s Jeep which was just about to accelerate.

The next moment he pulled the trigger.

    “Heehee Brother run quickly…”

Lu Xin who had been thrown around almost flying out despite his seatbelt due to Chen Jing’s series of violent maneuvers suddenly heard his sister’s voice. He snapped his head back and saw his sister sitting in the back seat grinning strangely at him.

His heart skipped a beat as the corner of his eye caught a streak of firelight.

It was an AS90 155mm grenade trailing long flames from its tail.

In Lu Xin’s peripheral vision it seemed to slow down dramatically.

But in reality within a second of being fired it had already reached the side of the Jeep.

The warhead dipped slightly its trajectory seeming to alter.

But then the grenade detonated just below the side of the Jeep. A massive fireball instantly drowned out all surrounding noise. The heavy sturdy Jeep built like a monster was directly blasted into the air crashing solidly against a nearby building before bouncing back violently. Windows tempered glass and the car’s frame simultaneously deformed fractured and shattered.

Inside the car Lu Xin felt like he was experiencing a massive earthquake.

In the instant of the explosion he saw his sister reach out a hand towards him. Then his body became incredibly flexible contorting strangely. This allowed much of the impact force to be automatically neutralized by his body but inside the completely twisted nearly totaled car countless glass shards and metal fragments still pierced his flesh simultaneously.

The world spun violently accompanied by excruciating pain…

When the indescribable intense dizziness and pain subsided slightly and a shaky image reappeared before his eyes.

He saw he was pinned beneath the wreckage half his body thrown out of the car.

A piece of debris had pierced his thigh.

On the other side Chen Jing was desperately trying to push open her car door.

A figure dressed in black camouflage wearing worn-out military boots appeared in his field of vision. He carried a grenade launcher in his hand walking over leisurely and composed. He picked up the glass case from nearby the one containing the Red Moon oil painting. Because it was made of special material the glass case had surprisingly remained intact despite the violent explosion and crash.

Lu Xin stared at the man’s back suddenly feeling a strong sense of familiarity.

As he thought this the man picked up the case turned around and looked towards the wrecked Jeep.

A strange smile spread across his face.

    Qin Ran!

At that moment Lu Xin suddenly felt a chill run through his entire body as if he had instantly become much more sober.

That man had Qin Ran’s face!
