Chapter 86: Bulletproof Shield
by xennovelDak dak dak…
Suddenly all the gun barrels swiveled simultaneously spitting blue flames.
It felt as if the earth the surrounding vehicles and the railings on the road vibrated in unison. Standing on the ground you could feel it tremble almost like an electric current surged through your body beforehand. The thick smell of gunpowder filled the air.
The air ripped apart piece by piece as bullets carrying terrifying force eagerly burst from the barrels peppering the surrounding vehicles and the ground with dense clusters of holes. The guards in the front and rear vehicles who had just noticed the disturbance and were scrambling out were caught completely off guard. At least four or five of them were directly exposed to this horrifying firepower.
Pfft pfft pfft!
Blood splattered everywhere. Their bulletproof vests offered almost no protection getting shredded into fragments of flesh and blood.
And that was just the fate of those targeted by a single multi-barrel rotary machine gun.
On the other side Lu Xin and Chen Jing targeted by six such guns simultaneously were about to be completely drowned in bullets.
They heard a deafening roar like a sky full of hornets swarming towards them.
…
…
The instant he was submerged in the dense hail of bullets Lu Xin felt a surge of despair.
He wasn’t as familiar with this type of weapon as Chen Jing but he had heard of it.
However no matter how many times you heard about it you only truly realized its terror when such horrifying thermal weapons were aimed directly at you. The piercing roar the demonic sound of the spinning barrels the spitting of bullets even the spreading smell of gunpowder and the clatter of casings hitting the ground… He shouldn’t have been able to hear all these sounds at once yet they were unnervingly clear.
Spider-types could dodge bullets but that depended on the type of bullet and the situation.
Now surrounded by five rotary machine guns facing overwhelming firepower his mind went blank. His body trembled as if he’d lost all ability to think enveloped by an aura of destruction.
Pshhh pshhh pshhh…
Lu Xin’s ears filled with the sound of bullets tearing through the air.
From the dark muzzles of the five rotary machine guns just three or four meters away countless fiery serpents seemed to roar towards him.
A wave of heat washed over him carrying the pungent smell of saltpeter.
Thump thump!
At that moment Lu Xin’s heart clenched violently then pounded fiercely.
It hurt but the sensation felt somewhat familiar to Lu Xin.
It was the feeling of despair!
Instinctively feeling somewhat powerless he raised his hand weakly in front of him.
…
…
“Silly child…”
He clearly sensed endless bullets rushing towards him yet he felt no harm.
Just as that sense of despair reached its peak Lu Xin faintly sensed a shadow appear before him.
This gave him a sudden strange sense of security.
Instinctively he slowly opened his eyes.
Looking up towards the flashing blue flames of the Gatling gun barrels ahead he saw Mom’s elegant and refined figure.
She wore a perfectly tailored exquisitely made pure white evening gown and carried a small silver-white bag.
On her feet were high heels inlaid with gold trim and on her head she wore a small gray wide-brimmed hat.
A simple yet incredibly brilliant platinum rose necklace adorned her neck. Her entire being exuded an indescribable noble and elegant aura starkly contrasting with the overturned vehicles soaring flames and chaotic hail of bullets behind her.
She walked over with light steps bent down slightly and embraced Lu Xin and Sister.
Countless bullets whistled through the air striking her body.
Each of those bullets possessed the power to pierce steel plates even tear a living person apart. Yet countless bullets hit Mom and not a single one passed through her body nor did any miss. She absorbed them all completely with her body.
Behind her an endless spray of blood could be seen painting everything crimson.
An uncountable number of bullets rained down on her causing her body to seemingly tremble slightly.
It was like the flickering screen of an office desktop computer with an unstable power supply. The interplay of horizontal and vertical lines and shifting color patches made Mom’s figure appear exquisite yet unreal at this moment.
But she still appeared before him using herself as a shield blocking all the bullets for Lu Xin and Sister.
Lu Xin could even feel the power contained within the bullets bombarding her.
That terrifying aura capable of shredding everything into pieces… yet Mom stood there motionless letting the bullets fall upon her. On her exquisitely made-up face there was even a faint smile.
And some kind of elusive excitement an eerie grotesque smile…
Amidst the roar of bullets she spoke to Lu Xin seeming somewhat reproachful “Didn’t we agree you wouldn’t let yourself get bullied?”
“How did you still end up in such danger?”
…
At this moment Lu Xin felt a flood of strange emotions leaving him momentarily speechless.
…
…
“Is that…”
Chen Jing had thought she was dead for sure.
That piercing gunfire should have been the last sound she ever heard.
But unexpectedly the deafening roar of gunfire continued for several seconds yet she felt nothing.
Startled she abruptly looked up.
Her eyes instantly widened staring fixedly ahead.
…
…
Ahead of her closer to the side of the road was Lu Xin.
Lu Xin had been threatened by the bullets even earlier than her. Logically he should have been torn to shreds by now.
But when she looked over she witnessed a sight she would never forget for the rest of her life.
Lu Xin stood there still holding one hand up instinctively as if shielding his eyes.
In front of him was a dense mass of bullets.
Those bullets were just embedded there about thirty centimeters in front of Lu Xin.
They looked as if they were fixed in mid-air by some invisible force unable to advance nor fall.
Because there were so many bullets and more were continuously flying in they vaguely formed a strange shape. At first glance it looked like… a humanoid figure a blurry yet complete human shape…
To put it simply Lu Xin had raised a telekinetic shield.
And this shield had actually blocked the combined fire of five multi-barrel rotary machine guns!
At this moment Chen Jing’s breathing almost stopped entirely feeling an indescribable terror.
On another level this shock was even more impactful than seeing five rotary machine guns aimed at her.
“This must be…”
“What an immense level of psychic power?!”
