Chapter Index

    Six months later.

    “Second Level of Qi Refinement!”

In the training room Lu Changsheng’s robes fluttered without wind. He woke from his meditation state exhaled a breath of turbid air and smiled with joy.

After one year and four months of hard work he finally broke through from the first to the Second Level of Qi Refinement.

It took so long because he spent a lot of time on making babies and drawing talismans.

Otherwise with his current resources of five Spirit Stones per month and occasional purchases of Spirit Tea and vegetables he could have broken through faster.

But in Lu Changsheng’s view the time spent was worth it.

In these six months Lu Changsheng took the seventh concubine and two Lu Family women sent by Uncle Fu as his concubines. They all successfully became pregnant.

Lu Lanshu Lu Zi’er and Lu Qing’er were also all pregnant with their second child.

In half a year Lu Changsheng had six more children on the way.

This made Uncle Fu who had been keeping an eye on Lu Changsheng’s situation come to advise him to be more restrained with women and not rush having children.

As for Talisman Making he drew over two hundred talismans in these six months.

Among them fifty were basic talismans which he took to the Hundred Treasures Pavilion to exchange for household expenses.

He also told Uncle Fu that he was now five to six tenths confident in making safety talismans.

He estimated that in a few more months he could try making First-Tier talismans.

As long as he could successfully draw a low-quality First-Tier talisman he would be considered a qualified Talisman Master.

“At the Second Level of Qi Refinement my Qi is about twice as strong as the first level.”

“Now drawing medium-quality First-Tier talismans isn’t difficult for me anymore. Unlike before when drawing a medium-quality talisman would almost exhaust me and the more difficult ones would fail directly.”

“If I had the materials I could even try drawing some high-quality First-Tier talismans for self-defense.”

Lu Changsheng stood up feeling the Qi in his dantian and sea of qi.

What hindered his talisman drawing wasn’t skill but his own cultivation level.

As long as his cultivation reached the threshold for Talisman Making he could successfully draw talismans.

However his current tools and materials could only draw medium-quality First-Tier talismans. He couldn’t try drawing high-quality First-Tier talismans yet.

Even with Second-Tier max talisman-making skills without materials he couldn’t make bricks without straw.

If he went to buy High-Tier talisman-making materials from the Hundred Treasures Pavilion he wouldn’t know how to explain it and didn’t have that kind of spare money.

“Now I can also try to cultivate spells.”

“Otherwise apart from talismans I have no other means.”

    Lu Changsheng said to himself.

He hadn’t practiced any spells yet.

Except for using talismans he basically had no combat power.

And on the path of cultivation conflict and battles were inevitable.

Even if Lu Changsheng didn’t want to compete or fight and just wanted to marry and have children peacefully trouble would still find him.

Thinking he could just lay low and go on safely was impossible clearly self-deception.

“But there’s no need to rush. As long as I don’t leave the Lu Family there won’t be any danger for now.”

Lu Changsheng shook his head walked out of the training room to play with his children and relax.

Just as he picked up a child and came to the courtyard Lu Changsheng saw Li Feiyu arriving.

He teased his eldest son in his arms saying “Come call Uncle Li.”

But the child was only a year old and could only babble indistinctly.

“Changsheng congratulations on breaking through to the Second Level of Qi Refinement.”

    Li Feiyu congratulated Lu Changsheng.

He lived next door to Lu Changsheng.

He was practicing martial arts in the yard when he sensed the spiritual fluctuations from this side and knew Lu Changsheng had broken through to the Second Level of Qi Refinement.

“Hehe it’s about time after so long.”

    Lu Changsheng chuckled.

Li Feiyu had a Seventh-Tier Spirit Root focused solely on cultivation without wasting time on women and had broken through to the Second Level of Qi Refinement six months ago.

“Changsheng why do I feel like you’ve become much fairer than before? You look much better overall what have you been doing?”

At this moment Li Feiyu looking at Lu Changsheng holding the child suddenly exclaimed.

Although they lived next door they only met up once every month or two.

    “Oh really?”

Hearing Li Feiyu’s words Lu Changsheng paused slightly.

He immediately thought it must be the effect of cultivating the Immortal Posture Technique.

Although he hadn’t paid much attention to this technique he would still practice it when he remembered.

Cultivating and refining qi indeed had the effect of cleansing the marrow and body but in the early stages it didn’t improve appearance complexion or skin whitening much.

Then Lu Changsheng casually said “Maybe it’s because I used to do farm work but now I’m living a life of luxury. And I’m at the age of growth so naturally I look better.”

“Tsk tsk tsk originally when we were together it was like a red flower with green leaves. If you keep going like this how will I complement you anymore?”

    Li Feiyu teased.

“Get lost! Wait until I’ve nourished myself for a few more years you’ll be the green leaf complementing me.”

    Lu Changsheng laughed and scolded.

    ……

The next day Lu Changsheng went to the Lu Family’s book tower spent a Spirit Stone to borrow a copy of “Introduction to Basic Spells” and began to practice spells.

    “Zizi zizi!”

In the training room Lu Changsheng stretched out his right index finger. Half an inch above his fingertip sparks and embers constantly appeared.

But these sparks would extinguish as soon as they formed into a fireball.

Lu Changsheng was practicing one of the basic spells Fireball.

It can release a small fireball that shoots out.

However this spell wasn’t easy to practice.

It not only required coordination with Qi but also needed to chant incantations.

This incantation wasn’t just shouting “Fireball” or something it was a kind of ancient and obscure syllables.

Coordinating it with Qi felt very awkward so Lu Changsheng hadn’t mastered it even after practicing for so long.

After practicing for an hour Lu Changsheng’s internal Qi was almost depleted and he began to meditate to rest.

In this way practicing spells became another part of Lu Changsheng’s daily life.

    One month later.

    “Zila!”

A thumb-sized red fireball appeared on Lu Changsheng’s fingertip.

The fireball wasn’t big but it emitted a scorching heat raising the temperature of the entire training room.

Looking at the small fireball on his fingertip Lu Changsheng continued to infuse Qi into it making the flames of the small fireball grow larger.

When the small fireball reached the size of an egg Lu Changsheng’s fingertip holding the fireball began to tremble slightly.

He suddenly pointed his finger towards the target in front releasing the fireball.

    “Bang!”

The fireball hit the target instantly melting the finely forged iron target into molten iron.

    “Phew!”

“No wonder Feiyu said that the strength of a martial artist at the Innate realm is only comparable to the third level of Qi Refinement.”

“In the face of such a fireball no matter how skilled in martial arts one is they would surely die if hit.”

Lu Changsheng sighed after seeing the power of the Fireball spell.

He thought of the battle between the Lu Family and Chen Family on the way to Qingzhu Mountain.

The speed at which both sides released spells was much faster than his.

Moreover they could release multiple fireballs water arrows and wind blades at once making it almost impossible to defend against.

“But this spell is too difficult. It took me a whole month just to master one Fireball spell.”

“There are still a bunch of basic spells like Wind Walking Object Control Celestial Eye Sound Transmission Qi Concealment etc. How long will it take to learn them all?”

Lu Changsheng took a deep breath shook his head and sighed.

It took so much time for just an entry-level small spell what about more advanced spells?

Cultivating immortality really consumed a lot of time and energy.

This made him think of the talisman-making skills he had obtained.

He began to understand why such skills were so precious and popular.

It wasn’t just because of the difficulty.

Cultivating immortality itself was very time-consuming energy-consuming and expensive.

Every additional skill one cultivated required an extra share of time energy and money.

Most cultivators simply didn’t have the time energy and money to cultivate other things.

They could only focus on cultivating one path.
