Chapter 3: Ambush on the Way, the Dangerous World of Cultivation!
by xennovelNight fell.
Lu Yuanshan Ding and his group rested in the wilderness.
True enough, these spirit horses were no ordinary steeds.
Lu Changsheng didn’t know how to ride but after a day’s journey he didn’t feel tired.
“Excuse me, Master Lu, how long until we reach Qingzhu Mountain?”
A young man asked.
“These spirit horses can travel a thousand miles a day. At this pace we’ll reach Qingzhu Mountain in a month.”
Lu Yuanshan Ding replied.
A thousand miles a day?
One month?
Hearing this everyone exchanged glances their faces turning sour.
Lu Changsheng was also speechless.
This was way too far.
Lu Yuanshan Ding seemed oblivious to their gloomy expressions.
He took out a porcelain bottle and said “A month will pass quickly.”
“These are fasting pills. Eat one and you won’t feel hungry for a month. Here one for each of you.”
He handed out a pill to each person.
Lu Changsheng examined the brown pill about the size of a soybean in his hand then swallowed it without much thought.
They were already on this journey. Even if the pill was poisoned they had to take it.
Besides the Lu Family had no reason to harm them.
After taking the fasting pills during the rest period several young men began to meditate clearly already possessing cultivation techniques.
Li Feiyu walked to one side to practice martial arts alone.
From earlier conversations Lu Changsheng knew that as the young leader of the Red Whale Gang Li Feiyu was highly skilled in martial arts.
At just eighteen he was already a Top-Tier expert in the martial world.
After resting for three to four hours the group continued their journey.
And so it went.
A month passed in monotonous travel.
“Perk up everyone Qingzhu Mountain is just ahead.”
On the main road Lu Yuanshan Ding riding his spirit horse called out to the listless youths behind him.
After a month of travel everyone was numb physically and mentally exhausted.
Lu Changsheng also looked drained.
In his past life even a day’s car ride left him feeling uncomfortable.
Let alone a month of horseback riding.
Hearing Lu Yuanshan Ding’s words that they were almost at Qingzhu Mountain everyone’s spirits lifted a bit.
They had finally made it through this ordeal.
The five Lu Family cultivators accompanying them also breathed a sigh of relief.
Their task on this journey was to safely escort these potential disciples home.
However at that moment suddenly.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”
Dozens of gleaming sharp ice spikes burst from the nearby soil shooting towards Lu Changsheng and the others.
“Not good we’re under attack!”
Lu Yuanshan Ding’s face changed dramatically as he shouted angrily.
At the same time he stretched out his hand fingers spread wide and several fireballs radiating intense heat flew out to intercept the ice spikes.
“Protect the disciples!”
The other five Lu Family cultivators also sprang into action raising earth walls and water screens to shield Lu Changsheng and the other youths.
But faced with so many ice spikes three of the young disciples were still pierced through the chest. They fell from their spirit horses with a thud lifeless.
“So this is the world of cultivation.”
Lu Changsheng swallowed hard his face paling slightly at the horrific scene.
Though he was a transmigrator he had never witnessed such slaughter in either his past life or this one.
This was his first time.
In that moment he gained a clear understanding of the cruelty of the cultivation world.
“Hahaha Lu Yuanshan Ding did you think you could bring back these disciples without my Chen Family’s permission?”
Cultivators emerged from the ground one after another.
Leading them was a tall middle-aged man wearing a crimson robe.
“Chen Shuisheng how dare you act so brazenly in Qingzhu Mountain territory!”
Lu Yuanshan Ding shouted coldly at the Burly Man in Red Robes before him.
He naturally recognized the other party.
It was the patriarch of the Chen Family from Red Leaf Valley their sworn enemies!
But he hadn’t expected the latter to dare ambush them right at their doorstep.
Though this was indeed the best timing for an ambush.
Not only were they exhausted their guard was down.
As he spoke a yellow talisman appeared in his hand quickly burning up.
This was a Communication Talisman!
To call for reinforcements from the family!
“Finish this quickly kill them!”
Chen Shuisheng sneered his lips moving slightly as he clapped his hands forward. Bitter cold condensed into sharp icicles shooting towards Lu Yuanshan Ding.
The ten cultivators behind him also attacked aiming for Lu Changsheng and the other young disciples.
Their target wasn’t the Lu Family members but the group of potential disciples!
Boom boom boom!
The two sides clashed.
The Chen Family outnumbered them giving them an advantage. Plus the Lu Family had to protect the young disciples putting them at a disadvantage. They were immediately on the back foot.
“Puh!”
Just then a green wind blade shot through breaking the Lu Family’s defense slicing a disciple next to Lu Changsheng in half.
Blood sprayed splattering onto Lu Changsheng making his mind go blank.
“Watch out!”
Another wind blade broke through the defense shooting towards Lu Changsheng.
But Li Feiyu beside him was quick-eyed and nimble. He leaped up athletically tackling Lu Changsheng to avoid the strike.
“Thanks Brother Li.”
Lu Changsheng came to his senses his heart pounding with lingering fear.
If Li Feiyu hadn’t tackled him just now that wind blade would have surely killed him.
As a transmigrator with a system it would have been frustrating to die like this.
After witnessing the cruelty of this world though Lu Changsheng was afraid his resolve to cultivate grew even stronger.
In this world where the strong preyed on the weak without power one was just an ant life as fragile as grass!
“Waaah cultivation is too dangerous I want to go home!”
“Please spare me this has nothing to do with me.”
“Run staying here is just waiting to die!”
Seeing the Lu Family members at a disadvantage and several disciples slain some disciples cried and begged for mercy while others chose to flee.
However.
As soon as two people ran out of the Lu Family’s protection they were immediately killed by fireballs wind blades and ice spikes deterring others from trying to escape.
At this moment Lu Changsheng and the others were like lambs waiting for slaughter only able to pray the Lu Family could hold on.
Fortunately not long after a series of whooshing sounds rang out.
Several figures flew over from Qingzhu Mountain ahead.
“Retreat!”
Seeing that Lu Family reinforcements had arrived Chen Shuisheng didn’t hesitate. He made a swift decision and led his people away.
“Father are you alright?”
A young woman in a snow-white dress quickly floated down in front of Lu Yuanshan Ding her voice like a clear stream full of concern.
She wore white clothes whiter than snow with unparalleled beauty. Her figure was slender and graceful like a celestial maiden descending to earth captivating the young disciples who had just escaped death.
Lu Changsheng was no exception.
In his past life he had experienced the onslaught of beautiful women through big data on the internet. He thought he wouldn’t be easily impressed.
But seeing this woman in white he was stunned.
Her long black lustrous hair fell like a waterfall to her waist.
She had a perfect oval face with eyebrows like distant mountains and long fluttering eyelashes.
Her nose was high and straight her lips like cinnabar her skin as white as jade embodying the phrase “bright eyes and white teeth ice-cold skin and jade-like bones”.
Most captivating was the aura about her.
She was pure and otherworldly elegant as an immortal like a snow lotus on a heavenly mountain standing aloof from the world.
If not for the concern on her face she would have seemed like an unworldly fairy.
“If I could marry into the Lu Family and marry a woman like this I’d be willing to have not just fifty but a hundred children!”
The thought flashed through Lu Changsheng’s mind.
But he knew this was impossible just a pipe dream. He’d have to stack his pillow high at night to have any chance of realizing it in his dreams.
“Miaoge I’m fine just depleted of Qi.”
Lu Yuanshan Ding waved his hand at his daughter.
Lu Miaoge..
The group of young men committed the name of this otherworldly beautiful woman to memory.
Lu Changsheng also remembered this name.
The other arriving Lu Family members also landed. Seeing that Lu Yuanshan Ding and the others were safe with only eight disciples dead they weren’t too concerned.
Though losing eight disciples was a pity it wasn’t enough to grieve over.
After all they hadn’t invested much in these disciples.
Afterwards the group safely arrived at Qingzhu Mountain.
