Chapter Index

Er Yong replied, “We only received a text notification, no pictures. Sister Qing, you might want to ask Old Goat or Luo. They’re both busy protecting the Safe Zone right now, so they might have more info.”

Since it was the Devastation Rain period, Xia Qing couldn’t tell if Yang Jin and Luo Pei were on duty or resting. She sent Yang Jin a message first to check on the wolf pack’s movements.

Compared to Luo Pei, who left the Territory over half a year ago, Yang Jin understood the situation between Xia Qing and the wolf pack much better.

Less than thirty seconds after she sent the message, Yang Jin responded with a short aerial video, asking, “This huge wolf at the front, is it from the Northern Wolf Pack or the Western Wolf Pack?”

The footage was shot at night from above using an infrared camera, making everything black and white. Unless you knew the pack well, it was hard to tell which huge wolf this was. Yang Jin wanted Xia Qing to help confirm its identity.

Xia Qing watched the video and finally let out a breath of relief. She replied to Yang Jin, “Confirmed, the giant wolf from the Northern Wolf Pack isn’t in the footage.”

Honestly, even if the shot was taken from over two hundred meters up, Xia Qing would recognize the Handsome Huge Wolf anywhere. After all, she owed it for digging up that whole backpack full of Yi Stone for her.

Yang Jin quickly replied, “Copy that. Remember to get some rest.”

Yang Jin didn’t say much more, nor did Xia Qing ask. There was no point—further questions wouldn’t help anyway.

Now that she knew the Northern Wolf Pack wasn’t involved in the Western Wolf Pack’s revenge, Xia Qing had no reason to leave her Territory to try to stop them. She didn’t know the wolves in the Western Pack and had no power to stop their revenge anyway.

Really, stuff like this isn’t something a farming lord should be worrying about.

At six, while pulling Scourge Grass from the Yellow Lantern Rapeseed House, Er Yong glanced at his phone for a few seconds. At the same time, Tang Huai sent out the latest update:

“Sister Qing, the beast tide from the Western Evolved Forest is heading toward the Southern Territory.”

“Did you all hear? The wolf and leopard packs from the Western Evolved Forest stirred up another beast tide—it’s charging straight for the Southern Territory.”

Already up, Zhao Ze quickly asked, “Brother Huai, how big is the beast tide? Any chance it’ll hit our Territory?”

“Medium-sized. I heard there are more than two hundred large animals. They shouldn’t reach us, since our Territory is protected by the Divine Wolf,” Tang Huai replied.

After he said that, Tang Huai quietly put his palms together and silently thanked Xia Qing.

Chen Cheng, who was patrolling Section Three and clearing hazards, spoke into the walkie-talkie, “Last time the Western Wolf Pack launched a beast tide, it hit the Western Territory first. They tried to invade our land but were stopped by the Northern Wolf Pack, so they went and wrecked the Eastern Territory instead. Now they’re heading for the Southern Territory again. Judging by this, the wolf pack won’t rest until all humans outside the Safe Zone are wiped out.”

Xia Qing corrected him, “After the last beast tide, the Western Wolf Pack stayed ambushed near the Southern Territory for a while. The only reason they retreated later was because the Monkey Troop went to seize their land.”

“Right, I totally forgot about that.” Chen Cheng then asked, “Sister Qing, what do you think it’ll take to stop these wolves from seeking revenge?”

As she walked through the Buffer Forest, Xia Qing replied, “Find the culprit who slaughtered their pups and tear them apart.”

Chen Cheng sighed, “Then where are we supposed to find them? Looks like we’ll just have to wipe out the whole wolf and leopard packs.”

Er Yong shot back, “Taking out the wolves isn’t hard, but then what? You going to guard the Western Evolved Forest and stop the monkey troop or other big animals from invading?”

On the Lords’ channel, everyone was buzzing about the wall. The recent beast tide from the wolf pack had them all on edge—all they wanted was to finish the wall soon and keep the Territory safe.

Xia Qing, listening to both sides, didn’t say another word.

People can’t actually wipe out the wolf pack. They rely on them to guard the depths of the Western Evolved Forest, keeping the Monkey Troop and other animals from taking over that vast forest and ruining the fragile balance. Sure, once the iron mesh wall is up, things will be a bit safer, but not even a four-meter wall can stop the Evolved Wolves. Even a meter taller wouldn’t be enough.

Xia Qing understood this better than anyone.

At six thirty, Hu Zifeng and his two teammates got up. After breakfast, they took over for Xia Qing’s group, letting them rest and eat before the red-level Devastation Rain struck. Only when that was over could Hu Zifeng’s team get some rest.

Xia Qing downed her tea soup in a hurry, then rushed to feed her companions and animals. After double-checking that everything at home was in order, she climbed into the rotary tiller and started mowing down the Scourge Grass.

By seven thirty, red-level Devastation Rain, heavy with Devastation Element, pattered down. In just over ten minutes, the greenhouse and both the Yellow Lantern wheat and rapeseed fields started sprouting Devastation-Evolved crops one after another.

Anywhere the Devastation Rain touched directly, Scourge Grass exploded in growth again. Uncut patches were already taller than a person.

Driving the rotary tiller, Xia Qing made rounds through the Territory, clearing out every aggressive Devastation-Evolved plant she could. The swarming insects would have to wait—she didn’t have time to handle them now.

At seven thirty, Section Four sent out an alert. “Captain Tan, a tree of unknown type just started shooting up in Section Four, and it’s already over four meters tall.”

Tan Junjie calmly replied, “All personnel in the Territory, pull back. The inspection team will arrive in ten minutes and handle it.”

A few minutes later, tiny Territory Ten sent out their own alarm. “Captain Tan, a horde of evolved scorpions is pouring out of the village ruins in Territory Ten. We need backup.”

Tan Junjie answered with the same composure, “Understood. Inspection team will be there in five minutes. All personnel, stay alert and be careful.”

    Evolved scorpions?

Xia Qing turned her rotary tiller and headed for the abandoned village ruins in the southeast. Sure enough, she saw a mass of venomous scorpions crawling out from the rubble. The sight made her eyes light up with excitement.

If it wasn’t the Devastation Rain period, she’d have let the chickens out in the greenhouse so they could feast to their heart’s content.

But for now, Xia Qing pressed the walkie-talkie. “Captain Hu, a ton of scorpions just turned up in the abandoned village in the southwest. I can’t catch them all on my own—need two people for backup.”

Since scorpions could be used for medicine or food, Xia Qing wanted to catch them alive and trade them for credits.

“Jing Kuan, Er Yong—you two head over and help out,” Hu Zifeng called out from the northern part of the Territory, dispatching two Speed Evolvers at once.

While the north was buzzing with activity, the beast tide driven by the Western Wolf Pack collided with the disaster prevention squad outside the Southern Territory.

Beneath the red Devastation Rain, the crazed animals had lost all sense of fear or pain, rampaging recklessly until death.

The humans, hampered by the rain, had no choice but to take cover in bunkers with protective suits and masks, firing back at the beasts with sniper and submachine guns.

“Captain Yang, the wolf and leopard packs have split up and slipped into the forest.”

Yang Jin calmly ordered, “Everyone, follow Plan Two. Work together to drive off the wolves and leopards. As long as they don’t break the second defensive line, don’t shoot. The helicopter will arrive in thirty minutes. The second you spot the silver-gray, blue-eyed giant wolf, report its position immediately.”

Three minutes later, someone reported in, “The silver-gray, blue-eyed giant wolf has shown up a thousand meters ahead of Sniper Squad Five, deep in the Evolved Forest.”

“Copy that,” said Yang Jin, stepping out of the hidden tent and racing toward Sniper Squad Five’s position.
