Chapter 18: Three Conditions
by xennovelDundar quickly collected his thoughts.
The reason the Internet God seemed so inexplicably concerned with the Empire’s commoners was ultimately because he was certain that the Kewell Empire would not refuse his cooperation.
Thus, the Kewell Empire would become his new mission field.
So, his concern for the commoners’ food supply was as natural as a shepherd caring for his flock’s pasture.
Understanding this point, Dundar suddenly felt disheartened.
He truly lacked the courage and capabilities to refuse.
If they rejected the offer, it would undoubtedly result in mutual destruction.
No, to be precise, if they rejected it, the Kewell Empire would inevitably decline, maybe even reduce to a mere city-state.
For the Internet God, however, the greatest loss would only be a slower spread of his Divine Magic, with the mission field engulfed in war and a sharp decrease in population as the result!
After all, no one could resist the benefits brought by the Internet, especially for the lower class.
“I think we should first talk about the terms of our cooperation,” Dundar shifted the topic.
“No problem. Let’s hear your conditions.” Yu Sheng’an spread his hands, relaxing his body against the chair.
But Dundar subconsciously straightened his back. Mysterious Magic Seals flashed beneath his feet, enveloping the traditional Kewell-style restaurant.
At the same time, magical ripples radiated from the numerous magic towers standing in Willis City, covering the entire city.
At that moment, Yu Sheng’an was shocked to discover that his divine perspective could no longer spy on any users within Willis City, except for his projection—after all, it was an extension of his true being.
Dundar spoke in a low voice, “The Empire has only three demands.”
“First, you must never build a church in the Kewell Empire.”
Yu Sheng’an subtly nodded. He could easily understand why the Kewell Empire listed this as their first demand.
The church is the embodiment of a god, the fortress of the mission field, the solidified eye of a Divine Spark, and the warning monument of a deity!
In short, it’s through these churches that the gods rule over their mission fields by extending their influence.
When a god’s activity in a mission field exceeds a certain threshold, it attracts the attention of other gods, potentially resulting in a divine descent attack!
Possibly, a deity might even take the time to covertly patrol their mission field!
Thus, the significance of churches to deities is no less important than that of magic towers to magicians.
“Second, you must never interfere in any state affairs of the Kewell Empire.”
“Third, you must never pry into any magician’s private or social information!”
“For these three points, you must sign a Contract Document.”
Dundar laid out all the remaining conditions at once.
“A Contract Document?” Yu Sheng’an’s tone had a hint of peculiarity.
“Without the binding power of the contract, I believe you’d find it hard to trust our sincerity,” Dundar reversed the statement deliberately to save Yu Sheng’an some face.
In truth, the statement should have been, “Without the binding force of the contract, it would be hard for us to trust the Internet God.”
The problem is… I *am* the God of Contracts, after all!
A strange feeling crept into Yu Sheng’an’s mind.
For him, contracts did indeed have a powerful binding force.
But where there’s a rule, there’s always an exception. As long as he was willing to pay enough primordial essence, bending a contract was more than just standard procedure!
At the same time, Dundar’s reminder suddenly made Yu Sheng’an mentally curse himself for being so stubborn!
He suddenly recalled that his initial effort to promote Internet Divine Magic had actually been quite difficult.
The reason for that was that back then, Internet Divine Magic only had the social networking function.
Most magicians, upon obtaining a Mithril Ring, naturally hesitated to use it due to the flaw of ‘those who use Divine Magic are inevitably observed by the gods.’
After all, other Divine Magics only held this risk for the few minutes needed to cast them.
But with social networking? Logging in ten times a day certainly wasn’t strange at all.
As a result, he later had to resort to inducements, even inventing a Forum to create a herd mentality.
But actually, at that time, he could have simply introduced an “Authorization Agreement” assuring users that the Internet God would not spy on their privacy, and that would have solved the problem!
With this Contract Document as a guarantee, most users’ concerns could have been easily alleviated.
For him, implementing this would hardly result in any losses, and he might even have made some extra profit from the use of the “Contract Document”.
After all, the Internet God’s guarantee not to spy did not mean the God of Contracts wouldn’t!
“I can agree to all three of your conditions, but I have three conditions of my own.”
Dundar’s alertness heightened, as did that of the Archmage and the few other Grand Magicians qualified to stay informed about these negotiations.
“First, fully propagate Internet Divine Magic. I require that it be spread to the Empire’s most basic administrative units—villages and towns—within a month.”
“Second, starting immediately, the Kewell Empire must implement free and compulsory basic literacy education. Every administrative region, even a village with just one person left, must establish a free academy with at least one Teacher to teach literacy. This must be completed within a year.”
“Third, within the borders of the Kewell Empire, only the Internet God and gods approved by him shall be recognized. All other gods shall be declared heretical!”
After hearing these three conditions, Dundar fell into silence.
In fact, he was already discussing matters with the Archmages behind the scenes through special magic.
Yu Sheng’an’s first condition was entirely within their expectations.
The second condition, however, was somewhat unexpected.
Yet, after careful consideration, they understood the logic behind it.
This condition would require some financial and material investment, but it would also benefit the Empire, so they could agree to it.
But the third condition was ruthless.
It meant binding the Kewell Empire entirely to the Internet God’s chariot!
Although the Kewell Empire had always been wary of other gods, diplomatically, they still recognized the Five Prime Gods to avoid being besieged.
Given their limited territory and relatively small population, directly challenging the Five Prime Gods wasn’t worth the cost, so they’d been left alone.
But now, the Internet God was demanding absolute loyalty in their stance towards deities. If he were to turn around and declare the Five Prime Gods as heretics, would they tolerate it?
“Lord, the third condition is too harsh,” Dundar cautiously replied.
“Then, your first and third conditions are also too harsh. I’m only willing to comply with one, so choose between the two.” Yu Sheng’an retorted.
Dundar remained silent for a long moment, then gritted his teeth and said, “Alright.”
Yu Sheng’an chuckled softly. With a snap of his fingers, he claimed an empire. The future looked promising!
Afterwards, the two sides discussed the specific terms in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, and signed a bilateral strategic cooperation agreement!
The moment the agreement was signed, the magical ripples covering Willis City faded away like mid-day fog under the sun.
Dundar’s highly tense body also began to relax, his mindset shifting from ‘confrontation’ to ‘cooperation’.
Curious, he asked, “May I ask what your so-called official website will look like?”
