Chapter 209: No Way, You Didn’t Wash
by xennovelIn room 503 of the Finance Academy’s female dorm Feng Nanshu who had returned from Shanghai lay softly on the bed staring intently at her phone with bright eyes.
Every time a message appeared on the list that little silk-stockinged foot would raise high swinging left and right at the end of the bed releasing an alluring fragrance.
“Nanshu did Jiang Qin really take you home?”
“Mm he took me home.”
“You even ate New Year’s Eve dinner with his whole family? Really?”
“Wenhui I’ve already repeated it three times.” Feng Nanshu felt a bit wronged.
Gao Wenhui sitting below excitedly rubbed her hands together, “How about this, you say it two more times and I won’t ship you anymore, okay?”
“You’re a bad person.”
“Then let’s pick some key points. You recount for me again the scene when his parents saw you, his mom giving you a red envelope, and all the things they said praising you. These parts have a higher sugar content, more balanced nutrition.”
Feng Nanshu’s little eyes twinkled with delight, “Auntie is a great person.”
“And then?” Gao Wenhui’s eyes were full of anticipation.
“She said I was very well-behaved, gave me a red envelope, picked food for me. When Jiang Qin bullied me she even stood up for me.”
“What was Jiang Qin’s reaction? Seeing you so well-liked, was he happy?”
Feng Nanshu shook her head blankly, “Jiang Qin had no reaction. Before no matter what I said tasted good he would feed me. But that day I said several times the dumplings were delicious and he wouldn’t feed me.”
Gao Wenhui took a deep breath, “That dog must have felt guilty. In front of his parents he didn’t dare dote on you, afraid they’d directly accept you as a daughter-in-law. So he pretended not to hear. Too much of a dog, even killing him wouldn’t be too much!”
“Wenhui, don’t kill him.” Feng Nanshu pouted unhappily.
“I’m just saying. But you defending your husband is really shippable. Next time I’ll dare to do it again.”
Gao Wenhui was beside herself with joy, already imagining the scene of the four of them sitting together as a family.
She now regretted not joining the art department. Otherwise she could have drawn this scene. But if she had really joined art, she wouldn’t have been able to meet Feng Nanshu and Jiang Qin.
In this world there really was no way to have it all.
“You two really are two extremes.”
Fan Shuling put down the book in her hand looking helplessly at the dazed girl and shipping expert in the dorm.
“What do you mean?” Gao Wenhui turned to look at Fan Shuling.
“Wenhui, you’ve never even had a boyfriend but you’re extremely good at imagining details. You could extract sweetness from a rock. Isn’t that extreme?”
After hearing this, Gao Wenhui nodded, “Now that you mention it, when Sun Wukong sprang out from that rock, I was thinking, that rock must have also experienced a sweet love. Otherwise why would it get pregnant? Just don’t know who was so wicked to not even spare a rock.”
After hearing this Fan Shuling felt a bit suffocated, “Is this what you usually think about?”
Feng Nanshu suddenly raised her beautiful little face looking at her seriously, “Shuling what about me?”
“You’re also an extreme. More pampered than girls with husbands. But foolishly being best friends with him. As long as you can stick to him you’re satisfied beyond words.”
Feng Nanshu nodded, “I like taking walks with Jiang Qin.”
Fan Shuling set the book on her lap officially joining the conversation, “Didn’t you go to Shanghai after New Year’s? Won’t you miss your big teddy bear terribly not seeing him?”
“Mm but I chat with him asking where he went. Then I close my eyes and let my imagination run wild.”
“How do you let it run wild?”
Feng Nanshu was a bit dazed, “I lie on the bed and let it run wild.”
“I mean what wild things do you imagine?” Fan Shuling was a bit curious.
“I imagine him taking me to stroll in all the places he mentioned.”
Gao Wenhui couldn’t help narrowing her eyes, “Shuling your questions are quite professional. Seems even sweeter than what I asked. What’s going on?”
Fan Shuling was stunned for a moment also seeming to taste the sweetness, “Could it be I was infected by you? I actually feel a bit unable to stop!”
“Didn’t I say shipping them is very interesting? This pair of best friends is exceptional, completely different from ordinary couples.”
Fan Shuling neither agreed nor disagreed. Then she looked at Feng Nanshu, “Why hasn’t your husband come to pick you up? Didn’t you say five minutes? You didn’t forget, right?”
“…”
Feng Nanshu was a bit flustered. After putting on her shoes she waved goodbye then pitter-pattered downstairs to find her dearly missed big teddy bear.
Jiang Qin had already been standing downstairs for quite a while discovering there was an astounding number of couples today – one every three steps. The entire campus seemed suffused with the sour stench of romance.
But this was understandable. After not seeing each other for a whole break pent-up longing overflowed. The maple forest would probably be jam-packed again tonight.
These love-addled people really were a bit negligent of proper business.
Wasting such a fine bright time kissing and cuddling.
Right at this moment the little rich girl in a woolen coat came running down the stairs, her red plaid scarf swaying with her steps looking spirited and pure. Her short boots tapped on the concrete steps making a pitter-patter sound.
The instant she saw Jiang Qin her eyes suddenly sparkled. Then she extended her little hand in front of him.
From the start of junior high until now the two of them had been apart for about fifteen days. But Feng Nanshu could still do these actions naturally and elegantly.
Especially that coolly aloof expression paired with the “Jiang Qin, walk” from her mouth – the highlight was the moe gap.
“Why extend your hand?” Jiang Qin played dumb.
Feng Nanshu looked at him coolly, “Brother, hold.”
“Little rich girl, let’s play a game today called ‘whoever holds hands is the puppy’. How about it?”
“Jiang Qin, I want to raise a puppy.” Feng Nanshu suddenly remembered about the dog.
Jiang Qin reached out to button up her coat, “I looked for one at school today but couldn’t find any. After all it’s been so long over the break, the doggies all went to other places to forage. They probably won’t be back anytime soon.”
Feng Nanshu obediently raised her two arms, “Let’s look together.”
“No more ham. The last bit was polished off by that dog Lu Feiyu.”
Feng Nanshu raised a finger pointing at the nearby Academy Supermarket, “Let’s buy one.”
Jiang Qin shook his head vigorously refusing to go, “Manager Jiang brought in a bunch of new goods priced outrageously high. If he sees you won’t he fleece me to death?”
“?”
“Forget it. Let me take you to the cafeteria to eat first. Then we’ll bring some leftovers. We’ll circle the school and see which doggy we can catch.”
Feng Nanshu nodded putting her hand in his pocket obediently following him to Cafeteria 2.
With the new semester just starting there were many people on Academy Road. People would frequently pop out to greet Jiang Qin, some calling “Boss”, others “CEO Jiang”.
Jiang Qin also politely responded. Finally slowly letting down his guard he absentmindedly put his hand in his pocket touching the little rich girl’s little paw that had long been lying in ambush.
In the end who knows who held whose hand first. In any case they ended up holding hands.
Arriving at Cafeteria 2 Jiang Qin went to the window to order the braised beef noodles Feng Nanshu loved to eat instructing the little rich girl to get chopsticks and a spoon from the sterilizer.
Finally two bowls of braised beef noodles were brought over. The little rich girl was already seated a napkin spread on the table with only a pair of chopsticks and a small white ceramic spoon placed on it.
“You’re not eating?” Jiang Qin was a bit stunned.
Feng Nanshu shook her head, “I’m eating.”
“Then I’m not eating?”
“You’re also eating.”
Feng Nanshu’s eyes sparkled, “Jiang Qin feed me.”
Jiang Qin picked up a piece of beef feeding it into her little mouth, “You know, it’s actually improper for best friends to feed each other. It’s against etiquette.”
“I don’t know anything. I just like you feeding me.” Feng Nanshu was immensely satisfied being fed.
Hearing she didn’t know Jiang Qin instantly relaxed a lot feeling quite accomplished, “Of course. Friends who don’t know anything need to be taken care of. So this doesn’t count as breaking the rules. You’re so smart.”
The little rich girl pursed her red lips, “Jiang Qin I’m not smart at all.”
“?”
After lunch Jiang Qin bought some bones putting them in a bag. Holding Feng Nanshu’s hand he circled the school tossing several pieces in places dogs were most likely to appear.
From Cafeteria 2 to Cafeteria 1 from Cafeteria 1 to the back sports field from the back sports field to the maple forest finally reaching Wangyue Lake Jiang Qin couldn’t walk anymore.
But despite them strolling such a big circle there still wasn’t a single dog able to seize this overnight rags-to-riches opportunity.
“There really are no dogs. Can we raise a cat?”
Feng Nanshu coolly shook her head. Cats don’t need walking they dart about on their own. She didn’t want a cat.
“Then there’s no other way. We can only wait until it’s warmer to look again.”
Jiang Qin pulled the little rich girl to sit on a stone boat-shaped pavilion watching the waterfall opposite gradually begin to thaw marveling at spring’s approach.
The déjà vu of certain scenery was very strong. It made him recall a literacy song he learned in elementary school.
“Spring returns to earth all things revive willows turn green flowers red orioles sing swallows dance…”
He silently recited unexpectedly untying the little rich girl’s shoelaces. Then unexpectedly removing her right boot revealing that exquisite lovely silk-stockinged foot.
Feng Nanshu instantly withdrew it a bit flustered looking at him.
“What’s wrong? Did I not recite it well?”
“It was good. But I haven’t washed. I’ll let you eat it after I wash.”
“????”
Jiang Qin held his breath. After a long silence he said, “Feng Nanshu, we once swore to each other. That Christmas Eve was an accident. After it passed neither of us would remember.”
The little rich girl looked at him in a daze. Then she gently extended her foot into his arms, “I forgot. I don’t remember.”
“Actually, I thought that after walking such a long way with me, your feet must be unbearably sore. I didn’t expect you to be so ungrateful.”
“Jiang Qin, you’re truly a good man.”
Hearing these words, Jiang Qin instantly put on an aloof expression as he looked at her, but his hands were still moving with gentle meticulousness.
The scenery is beautiful, the world is romantic. Wishing everyone a Happy Qixi Festival.
