Chapter 21: Delete Me as a Friend
by xennovel“Lao Jiang, let’s go get our college acceptance letters together!”
The day after returning from the bar, Jiang Qin had just crawled out of bed when he suddenly received a QQ message from Guo Zihang.
He couldn’t help but glance at the calendar on the wall and realized today was indeed the day to get the acceptance letters. But based on Guo Zihang’s grades, he could barely get into a second-tier university. His letter shouldn’t have arrived so soon, right?
“Your acceptance letter came too?”
“No, I’m just going with you.”
“It’s not yours, so why are you so eager?”
“You said after the letters come out, you’d take me to the foot massage parlor!”
Jiang Qin couldn’t help but spit at his phone, thinking what kind of aspirations do college students have these days? Always thinking about foot massages!
He tossed his phone aside, got up to freshen up, then changed clothes and went out. By the time he arrived at the post office, Guo Zihang was already waiting at the door.
“Foster father, your acceptance letter is on the top of rack number three, fifth from the left!”
“How do you know?”
“I already looked for you. If the staff hadn’t stopped me, I would’ve gotten it out for you.”
“You really stop at nothing for a foot massage!”
Jiang Qin was impressed by Guo Zihang’s resolve. If this guy was half as diligent in his studies, Tsinghua and Peking University would be his for the taking.
Guo Zihang chuckled foolishly without explaining and followed Jiang Qin into the post office like a loyal dog.
College acceptance letters are very important documents. Although there’s no hard rule requiring the recipient to pick it up in person, even for signing on their behalf, you must have their ID card to take it.
Jiang Qin found his acceptance letter on the top of rack three, then rummaged a bit more and took another package.
“Bro Jiang, why do you have two acceptance letters?”
“The other one is Feng Nanshu’s.”
“That’s not allowed. If it’s not for you, you need Feng Nanshu’s ID to take it.”
Jiang Qin said nothing and took out two ID cards from his pocket, handing them to the postal worker. One was his, the other was Feng Nanshu’s.
Seeing this, Guo Zihang’s eyes instantly widened like copper bells. He even has her ID card, and they’re still just friends?
“Bro Jiang, which university did Goddess Feng apply to?”
“Same as me, Linchuan.”
“She told you?”
“No, I guessed.”
Guo Zihang wanted to ask more but suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure from the corner of his eye.
She was wearing denim shorts, her hair in a neat ponytail. It was none other than Chu Siqi, the class belle of Senior Class 2.
“Jiang Qin, long time no see.”
Jiang Qin nodded slightly, “Long time no see.”
Chu Siqi bit her lip, “You’re also going to Linchuan University? I’m in the law department. What about you?”
“Who told you I’m going to Linchuan University?”
“Wang Huiru did. But don’t get the wrong idea, I wasn’t deliberately asking about you. It just came up in conversation yesterday and I happened to overhear.”
Jiang Qin smiled faintly and stepped out of the post office.
He actually didn’t care at all what Chu Siqi said. He only chatted with her out of politeness. As for attending the same school, it didn’t matter. The finance department was on the main campus while the law department was on the east campus. Unless they made plans to meet, there was little chance of running into each other.
Seeing Jiang Qin turn and leave, Chu Siqi got anxious.
She had actually arrived long ago and had been sitting in the milk tea shop across from the post office. As soon as she saw Jiang Qin arrive, she immediately ran over, going to such lengths just to say a few words to him.
You’re mad at me, aren’t you?
But I’m taking the initiative to talk to you now, isn’t that enough?
She never expected Jiang Qin to be so decisive, to just turn and walk away.
You think you’re so great just because you have 300,000 yuan? You’re the one who likes me, not the other way around. I’m giving you a way out but you won’t take it!
“Jiang Qin, are you really planning on becoming strangers with me?”
“Yes, I already gave you my answer long ago.”
Chu Siqi bit her silver teeth upon hearing this, her face full of anger. “Fine, then tell me, why are you going to the same university as me?!”
Jiang Qin froze for a second, suddenly remembering something he had forgotten.
That’s right. On the eve of the college entrance exam, before he had traveled back in time, his adolescent self had asked Chu Siqi which university she wanted to attend. At the time, she had said Linchuan University because her father was an alumnus.
After reliving his life, he forgot many details. He only remembered Linchuan was a city he was familiar with but completely forgot he had initially chosen Linchuan University for Chu Siqi’s sake.
Fuck, what are the odds of this goddamn coincidence?
“Me going to Linchuan University has nothing to do with you.”
“Heh, with your grades, you could go to the capital, right? But you just happened to choose Linchuan University. Isn’t it because you knew I was going to Linchuan?!”
Jiang Qin sighed and turned to look at Chu Siqi, “The capital is too far. I don’t want to be too far from home. Linchuan is a good choice.”
Chu Siqi’s eyes glistened with a layer of mist, her lips bitten red. “Then let’s never contact each other again. Delete me, right now. Delete my QQ in front of me!”
“…”
“What, why are you silent? Don’t have the guts?” Chu Siqi said resentfully, her ample chest heaving.
Jiang Qin took out his phone and glanced at Guo Zihang, a bit sheepish. “Lao Guo, how do you delete friends on the 2008 version of mobile QQ?”
Guo Zihang was shocked, looking at him like an idiot. “Foster father, you don’t even know this?”
“I really don’t know. Help me out.”
“Watch me!”
So, Guo Zihang operated Jiang Qin’s phone and directly deleted Chu Siqi right in front of her.
Seeing this, Chu Siqi immediately burst into tears, cursing Guo Zihang for being a jerk while running away sobbing, even forgetting to get her acceptance letter.
Guo Zihang, who got cursed at, was stunned, thinking what does this have to do with me? I was just providing technical support!
Then he suddenly raised his head, eyes fixed on Jiang Qin, thinking foster father, you have such a ruthless heart. You deliberately shifted the hatred onto me? Making yourself out to be the good guy?
Actually, Jiang Qin was also very wronged. He truly didn’t know how to use this old version of QQ!
“Lao Jiang, you owe me a trip to the foot massage parlor for this!”
“Fine, I’ll rub you bald!”
Jiang Qin got on his bicycle with Guo Zihang and headed to Xinghai Road, then ascended the tall front steps of Shui Yun Jian.
But before entering, Jiang Qin paused and first gave him a rundown of the rules and various industry slang, lest he embarrass himself inside.
Guo Zihang listened until his face turned red, his gaze flitting about. In the end, he said he wouldn’t go in no matter what, even turning up his collar like a thief to cover his face.
“Didn’t you fucking want to go badly?”
“Bro, I thought they only did foot massages inside!”
“So what?”
“I’m not going. Let’s head back!”
“Useless. Looks like you’ll never amount to much.”
Guo Zihang looked very aggrieved, unable to help glancing down at his own feet.
He really thought this was just a place for foot massages, and the only difference from doing it yourself was having a pretty girl serve you. For this, he had specially scrubbed his feet with soap three times before leaving, afraid the girl would think his feet stank. But who knew foot massage parlors don’t actually massage feet!
