Chapter Index

“Right, didn’t you say you were bringing your roommates?”

“They went shopping. It may be a while before they come.”

Zhou Chao couldn’t help leaning forward: “Hong Yan, are your roommates pretty?”

Hong Yan snuck a glance at Jiang Qin, her cheeks slightly flushed: “Pretty for sure. Much prettier than me.”

    “Really?”

“Yes. You’ll know when they arrive.”

As they were talking, the kitchen had finished the dishes which were brought to the table by the waiters along with a case of eight beer bottles.

Perhaps because they were too busy, Jiang Qin couldn’t find a bottle opener in the entire room. He could only use the table edge, striking the cap forcefully with his palm to open the bottle.

    Pop–

Ren Ziqiang widened his eyes: “Jiang bro, that move was pretty awesome.”

Jiang Qin waved his hand: “Nothing special, just practice makes perfect.”

Hong Yan’s eyes lit up slightly, her lashes fluttering: “From the Song Dynasty scholar Ouyang Xiu’s ‘The Old Oil Peddler’. Jiang Qin, you can apply ancient prose too?”

    “????”

Jiang Qin was taken aback. He thought this was just a cliche from later eras. Whenever he watched anime openings online, he would always see this phrase. Besides this there was also “no other, just automatic transmission”.

Now… has this phrase not been overused yet?

Jiang Qin subconsciously glanced at Hong Yan, slightly furrowing his brow.

This girl seems to have some incredible filter for him…

“I think my roommates are here. I’ll go get them.”

After chatting for a while, Hong Yan left her seat. Zhou Chao and Ren Ziqiang immediately couldn’t hold back. Their straight spines instantly bent over. The two each grabbed one of Jiang Qin’s arms, refusing to let go.

“Jiang bro, teach us. We’re kneeling to listen!”

Jiang Qin struggled to pull his hands out: “You’re overthinking. I won’t date even if you begged.”

Cao Guangyu couldn’t help being moved: “You’re not interested in this campus belle level girl?”

“It’s not disinterest. I just think dating is a waste of time.”

Zhou Chao couldn’t help pursing his lips: “Jiang bro, I’m not talking nonsense. Hong Yan definitely has a thing for you.”

Jiang Qin was a bit surprised: “You can tell?”

“Of course. The way Hong Yan looks at you could melt and she always smiles when you talk to her. Isn’t it obvious?”

“Seems we can’t eat together anymore…”

    Zhou Chao: “????”

Ren Ziqiang took over: “Old Jiang, Hong Yan just said her roommates are prettier than her. You have to introduce them to us.”

Jiang Qin lightly shook his head: “Hong Yan has high EQ. She’s very considerate of others’ feelings when speaking. So her saying her roommates are pretty isn’t necessarily true. Watch what you say later. Don’t say anything inappropriate.”

    “Really?”

“I haven’t met them. Just guessing but most likely.”

As soon as he finished, Hong Yan reappeared in Nanshan Restaurant with two girls trailing behind.

The girl on the left wore a floral dress, revealing a length of creamy fair leg. Her skin was whiter than snow. An enchanting spirit sparkled between her brows. She had a tall, exceptional figure.

The one on the right was slightly inferior in looks but still counted as a beauty with an elegant, graceful air.

Cao Guangyu, Ren Ziqiang and Zhou Chao all widened their eyes thinking Old Jiang was really bullshitting. How is this not pretty? The girl on the right may be slightly inferior but is still on par with Song Qingqing while the left one is not inferior to Hong Yan at all even in comparison.

Jiang Qin was also stunned because he discovered coincidences like in novels may really exist in this world.

“Let me introduce, these are my roommates Chu Siqi and Wang Huiru.”

    “…”

    “…”

Chu Siqi stared blankly at Jiang Qin feeling like a lifetime had passed.

Wang Huiru was also full of surprise, not understanding why Jiang Qin would appear at Hong Yan’s dinner gathering.

You should know, she had tried to set up Chu Siqi with Jiang Qin many times before but Jiang Qin always excused himself as too busy. But now this unintentional encounter made avoiding each other impossible.

Very quickly, the two regained their calm and wordlessly sat beside Hong Yan.

Chu Siqi wasn’t speaking because she felt mixed up inside not knowing what to say while Wang Huiru was considering Hong Yan’s feelings not wanting to make things awkward.

“How is it? My roommates are pretty right?” Hong Yan smiled.

Ren Ziqiang and Zhou Chao immediately nodded: “Pretty. Could you be the legendary campus belle dorm?”

“I don’t dare call myself a campus belle. Our Siqi is almost there though.”

“Then… does Chu have a boyfriend?”

Hearing this, Chu Siqi clenched her silver teeth, her gaze involuntarily turning to Jiang Qin.

Jiang Qin politely gave a light nod without joy or sorrow then lowered his head to eat, no longer participating in the conversation or making a sound as if it had nothing to do with him.

That distance and indifference instantly made Chu Siqi’s breath hitch. Endless grievance surged up from her heart.

A whole summer break, they exchanged less than ten sentences. Finally reuniting in an unfamiliar city yet being treated as a stranger, who wouldn’t feel hurt.

You used to like me, used to like me so much.

But now, why can’t I even get a smile from you?

Wang Huiru silently glanced at the two feeling she should confirm something first. She leaned close to Hong Yan’s ear: “Yanyan, which one do you like?”

Hong Yan’s cheeks suddenly flushed red: “I just came to meet friends. Don’t misunderstand.”

“You spent an hour getting ready before leaving and changed outfits five times. You call that a misunderstanding?”

Hong Yan hesitated for a long while before lowering her voice: “Okay, it’s that person called Jiang Qin.”

Wang Huiru was silent for a long time before speaking: “What do you like about him?”

“He’s different from any guy I’ve met.”

    “…”

So everyone knew Jiang Qin’s good points except Siqi. Wang Huiru had an ominous feeling but had no idea what to do.

Ren Ziqiang and Zhou Chao didn’t notice anything wrong at all, still enthusiastically offering to order whatever dishes the girls liked.

Cao Guangyu’s head hurt. Generous is fine but I’m the one paying!

But he was a rich second generation. Face mattered. He definitely couldn’t say it directly. Plus Hong Yan’s two roommates were indeed pretty, especially that Chu Siqi. Her looks were simply not inferior to Hong Yan’s.

He could tell Hong Yan had a thing for Jiang Qin so he probably had no hope. After all if a girl chases a guy there’s just a thin veil. But if he could develop feelings with an equally beautiful girl, that would still count as a good tale.

    “Chu, do you drink?”

    “No need, thanks.”

“Then what dishes do you like? I’ll order some for you.”

Chu Siqi still shook her head, this time not even speaking.

Cao Guangyu’s enthusiastic offerings weren’t accepted. He instantly felt extremely depressed. Is life’s disparity so obvious and piercing?

    “Let’s eat first, chat later.”

Jiang Qin suddenly spoke up, passing chopsticks to Hong Yan.

This was just a friendly gesture without much meaning. But seeing this, Chu Siqi instantly couldn’t hold back. Her heart ached like being pricked by needles, her eyes turning resentful.

Jiang Qin clearly liked her. That gentleness and thoughtfulness could only be enjoyed by her.

She didn’t want to endure anymore.

“Jiang Qin, you said we’d have a clean breakup. Why suddenly appear in front of me again?”

Chu Siqi looked at Jiang Qin. As soon as she spoke, the whole table went silent.

Jiang Qin’s chopsticks paused slightly in the middle of picking up food. In the end, he helplessly raised his head: “Coincidence. Hong Yan and I agreed to eat together. But I didn’t know you were roommates. It’s too accidental.”

Chu Siqi’s temper instantly flared: “If I say you have something, you have it. You still dare not admit it?”

    “…”

“I have something to do. You all take your time eating.”

Jiang Qin really detested this fairy temper. If you say I have it, I have it? What a waste you’re not a fertility doctor.

He placed his chopsticks on the plate, gave Hong Yan an apologetic smile, told the others sorry, then got up from his seat.

“You know each other?” Hong Yan didn’t react for a moment, her eyes a bit dazed.

Jiang Qin paused his steps, then indifferently nodded: “Mm, high school classmates.”

“Not just high school classmates. You also said you’d love me forever!” Chu Siqi felt immense heartache at his nonchalance.

At the same time, Cao Guangyu, Ren Ziqiang and Zhou Chao were all dumbfounded, their minds spinning for a long time unable to react.

    What just happened?

This Chu Siqi also seems to be Jiang Qin’s?

Damn, I got silently pwned by Jiang Qin again?
