Chapter 337: Acting Like a Son-in-Law
by xennovelOn October 1st during the Golden Week, the sky was clear, and the weather was warm and breezy.
Most students from Linchuan University chose to leave in the morning, so from seven o’clock, a continuous stream of students pulling their luggage formed a symphony of departures.
Zhou Chao was the earliest to get up, grabbed a meat bun from the cafeteria after packing, and hurried to catch his transport.
Ren Ziqiang followed soon after, needing to drop Wang Linlin at the station.
Cao Guangyu had an even more significant task; he had to go back to Ding Xue’s hometown to make his presence felt.
Meanwhile, the staff of Room 208 was chattering in the chat group; some already on their way, others rushing back after forgetting something at the gate.
“Boss, happy holiday, I’m heading home!”
“The tech team is withdrawing, bye-bye dog boss, have a good holiday.”
“I’ve prepared the Coca-Cola bottle for the money tree, boss, goodbye.”
Jiang Qin faced the morning sun leaving the dorm, wished everyone a safe journey, then met up with the little rich girl for breakfast and waited for Uncle Gong to drive them to his home.
To Jiang Qin, these moments felt quite wonderful.
We’re just normal classmates and good friends; why rush to my place every holiday? It’s because my mom misses you? What complex social ties those are.
“Are you full yet?”
“Not yet, feed me another bite,” Feng Nanshu opened her mouth wide.
Jiang Qin fed her a piece of beef brisket: “Do you know what to say to my mom back home?”
“Yes, just say you have crucial work to handle. If she gets mad, I’ll whine at her.”
“Learned to whine? Let me hear it.”
Feng Nanshu paused, pursed her lips, and spoke, “Jiang Qin, what if I still can’t do it?”
Jiang Qin gave a thumbs up: “That helpless look will definitely work on her.”
“But I didn’t whine.”
“Then why did you look so cute just now?”
Praised again, Feng Nanshu blushed, “Stop it, or I’ll get shy and can’t help wanting you to hug me and even call you ‘brother’.”
Jiang Qin immediately raised his hands: “My fault, my fault, I was thoughtless, sorry, Miss.”
“I forgive you, but I still want that hug…”
Feng Nanshu’s eyes gleamed like mountain springs, radiating a high and mighty beauty that was hard for anyone to approach on the streets, yet here she was, wanting a hug, her charm potentially lethal.
It was like a comedy turning into a tragic scene; the impact was deeply moving, just like the aloof rich girl at that moment, highly captivating.
It was now eight o’clock in the morning, and the sunlight was bright. They couldn’t visit the maple forest, and Room 207 was locked, so after breakfast, Jiang Qin took Feng Nanshu to a back alley behind the cafeteria, discovering a new moral low.
Holding the soft and fragrant girl, Jiang Qin felt a sense of comfort, even smelling the elegant fragrance that seemed to emanate from her delicate skin.
“Feng Nanshu, I’ve never dared to admit this, but I must now; it seems like you really have me wrapped around your finger.”
“Not yet,” she murmured, head bowed, looking contemplative as she held her backup phone.
Jiang Qin: “?”
Half an hour later, they emerged from the alley near the Physical Education building, and ironically ran into the first-year students Qi Qi and Guan Wensi, who had just finished their meal.
After the last welcome party, Qi Qi first felt defeated in life, so much so she walked by Jiang Qin without a greeting. But later, she regretted acting immaturely.
If marriages can end in divorce, why let being single bother you? Why cut off all potential with Senior Jiang?
Besides, as much as she understood boys, a familiar flower is never as sweet as a wild one.
Although Feng Nanshu was exceptionally beautiful, beauty isn’t the only winning factor; otherwise, every big boss would be married to a star.
Qi Qi believed that the most beautiful might not laugh last, but the most cunning surely would.
So, she grabbed Guan Wensi and hurried over, sweetly calling out to their senior.
“Senior, are you heading home?”
“Not yet, I need to deliver someone to the girls’ dorm first.”
“What a coincidence, we’re heading there too. Shall we go together?”
With the same destination in mind, walking together came naturally. Qi Qi chatted away, showcasing her innocent, adorable side, precisely the type guys tend to like.
But Jiang Qin had already seen the world’s cutest little fairy; he wasn’t impressed by this act.
However, Qi Qi was indeed capable. She quickly noticed her charm wasn’t working on him and swiftly changed tactics to engage him with interesting conversation topics.
As long as she steered the conversation, it never died down, whether about campus hot topics or external news, expertly balancing her words to avoid annoyance or rudeness.
If Jiang Qin were twenty years younger, he might have been charmed. But at forty, he could easily tell that this trash-dropping junior wasn’t just making small talk; she had an ulterior motive.
What is she up to? Flirting with me?
Does this audacious junior not know my lifelong best friend is trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu?
Jiang Qin turned to look at Feng Nanshu. Although she still had her usual cool demeanor, the hand holding his fingers tightened, seemingly a tad jealous.
Guan Wensi couldn’t help but glance at Qi Qi, thinking her sister really had some tricks up her sleeve.
Qi Qi felt quite satisfied with her performance, hoping the senior recognized her most interesting, lively, and gentle side.
Surely, this side was better than his girlfriend, who couldn’t even muster a smile.
Guys might start with looks, but they always end up falling for tenderness and fun.
Soon, both Qi Qi and Guan Wensi noticed Jiang Qin and Feng Nanshu had stopped walking. Meanwhile, a man in white gloves bowed slightly, addressing them as “Miss” and “Young Master,” abruptly silencing Qi Qi as she looked slightly stunned.
The black sedan adorned with little gold figures had been parked downstairs for a long while; the engine had already cooled down. Gao Wenhui and Fan Shuling, who planned to hitch a ride to the station, had been waiting with their luggage for over an hour.
Seriously, does it take an hour and a half just to have breakfast?
These two definitely must have been up to no good without me!
Gao Wenhui scrutinized them, one appearing as aloof as a fairy and the other as upright as a gentleman. It seemed they truly just went to have an extended breakfast, clean and clear, without any guilt.
“Be careful sitting in this luxury car; don’t break it!” Jiang Qin boasted unabashedly.
Gao Wenhui didn’t expect such quippy remarks after waiting an hour and immediately put her hands on her hips: “We’re supposed to be good friends, and you’re meddling this much? Isn’t this Nan Shu’s car? What’s the rush? Unless… did you two cross any lines?”
“What lines? How can a university student talk so crudely? I said it on behalf of Nan Shu and Uncle Gong because they were too shy to mention it.”
“Still a good guy, I see.”
Fan Shuling quickly interrupted their bickering: “Alright, less talking, or we’ll miss our train.”
Gao Wenhui muttered an acknowledgment and reached to close the car door, not gauging her strength well, causing a loud thud.
Uncle Gong hesitated, then turned his head to speak in a deep voice: “Miss Gao, please be gentle. The son-in-law just mentioned not to break it.”
“?”
Both Gao Wenhui and Fan Shuling paused, then turned to look at Feng Nanshu, who was gently nodding in agreement.
No wonder Jiang Qin is so arrogant. It turns out the driver called him son-in-law first!
“Uncle Gong.”
“What’s up, Miss Gao?”
Gao Wenhui pulled out her phone from her pocket: “I didn’t expect you to be a fan too. Do you want to join my group?”
“…”
As the Rolls-Royce drove away, Jiang Qin took out his phone and composed a text to his mom about how busy this holiday was and that he couldn’t make it home but sent a gift instead, which should arrive by afternoon.
He didn’t send it right away though. Instead, he set it to send automatically at 2 PM. This way, even if his mom wanted to call and scold him, she couldn’t reach him.
This is intelligence!
Jiang Qin put away his phone and walked away from the girls’ dormitory of the School of Finance, planning to catch up on some sleep before heading straight to the airport.
“Qi Qi?”
“Ah?”
Guan Wensi coughed, “We should head back to the dorm. We have to take a train this afternoon, and you haven’t packed yet, have you?”
“Right, let’s go.” Qi Qi pursed her lips.
Seeing her friend’s crestfallen face, Guan Wensi didn’t dare speak. She just followed her back to the dorm and then started packing her own things.
Once Guan Wensi finished packing, she turned around and noticed that Qi Qi hadn’t really packed. Instead, she was just lying on the desk with a distressed expression.
Indeed, being clever could win to some extent, perhaps even overcome good looks, but their social circles were clearly different. You couldn’t even squeeze into his circle, so what good were your desires?
An Audi is attractive enough, right? But Feng’s sister rides in a Rolls-Royce.
To be honest, Guan Wensi was also taken aback.
Initially, she thought Jiang Qin driving an Audi to school was outrageous enough. But then seeing Feng’s sister in a Rolls-Royce, complete with a chauffeur, was like bringing a bladed weapon to a duel only to find that the opponent had pulled out a machine gun, and a diamond-studded one at that.
