Chapter Index

After settling the bill at Nanshan Restaurant, Jiang Qin returned to Linchuan University with his parents and the folks from Room 503.

Gao Wenhui and others had classes in the afternoon, so they went back to the dormitory first, whereas Feng Nanshu seemed reluctant, humming and hawing, not wanting to leave and seemingly eager to skip class.

It’s no longer just about proximity now; it’s about skipping classes too.

Left with no choice, Jiang Qin had to play the “obey me” card to get the little rich girl to reluctantly follow Gao Wenhui back to the dorm.

He felt the little rich girl was like those forever innocent girls, easily led astray, completely susceptible to temptations. His best friend might just be the biggest temptation in her life.

“Jiang Qin, Nanshu has to go to class. Why don’t you have to?”

Yuan Youqin turned around and suddenly posed a soul-searching question.

Jiang Qin opened his mouth, “University is different from high school. It’s a free environment. Who has time to attend every class? Look at this school, with thousands of students; there aren’t even enough classrooms. I was the top scholar in the first batch at Linchuan, I’ve studied enough. I should leave the learning opportunities to those who need them.”

Actually, he had classes in the afternoon too, but he got away with it since his parents weren’t aware.

    “Really?”

“Of course! Aren’t you curious about my part-time job? Let’s put aside the studying; I’ll take you to the office to see.”

Hearing the word ‘office’ got his parents distracted as he hoped.

Ten minutes later, they followed Jiang Qin to the entrepreneurship base, but instead of rushing upstairs, they first passed the first floor and saw other entrepreneurship projects.

Such as photography studios, tutoring services, graphic design, campus bikeshare, Jiang Qin introduced them one by one, explaining these were other students’ entrepreneurship projects.

His purpose was to let his parents know that entrepreneurship in university is quite common, nothing surprising.

But he didn’t mention not all campus businesses could make it to the Linchuan news.

By now, Yuan Youqin had a preliminary idea of what universities were like—skipping classes and engaging in various odd endeavors seemed to be the norm.

Jiang Zhenghong, having moved from the military to the health department, didn’t have a clue about what university was like, so he had to let Jiang Qin ramble on, feeling that something was off, but without evidence to prove it.

Seeing his parents’ thoughtful expressions, Jiang Qin knew they were somewhat convinced, hence he led them to the second floor and pushed open the door of Room 208.

“This is our office. These are our core staff. I’m helping out here as a part-time boss.”

    Dong Wenhao: “?”

    Su Nai: “?”

    Lu Feiyu: “…?”

Yuan Youqin and Jiang Zhenghong were looking at the staff with badges, uniform and the curves on charts pinned to the walls, and slogans like “Struggle for one generation, rich for three,” finally exchanging glances.

Was this their son’s company? These were his staff? It seemed really serious.

Although they knew they were still within a university campus, Room 208 had a very professional vibe, no wonder they were momentarily dazed.

“Boss, who are these two?” Dong Wenhao was the first to speak.

“My parents. They came to Linchuan for some errands and stopped by to visit.”

Hearing this, the people in 208 immediately stopped their tasks and came over, with some insightful ones fetching tea and moving chairs, which took Yuan Youqin and Jiang Zhenghong a moment to get used to but they graciously accepted everything.

Meanwhile, Jiang Qin pulled Su Nai aside to inquire about integrating Alipay with the group-buying project.

To ensure system stability, they paid a professional company to handle this, and as head of the tech department, Su Nai was naturally the liaison.

If it were Wei Lanlan, Tan Qing, or Dong Wenhao, Jiang Qin wouldn’t need to inquire too deeply, but Su Nai’s personality made her less suited for handling some business collaborations.

No choice, Jiang Qin trusted only a few people and from among them, Su Nai was the only tech-savvy one.

“The contract has been sent over, I briefly checked it and annotated the technical jargon, it’s in your email now for your decision.”

“Also, I’ve assessed the technical difficulty and they seem a bit overpriced; there’s at least 20% leeway for negotiation.”

“Another thing, the person interfacing with us isn’t tech-savvy and it’s tough communicating; if we decide to go forth, boss, you must have their tech head interface with us or it’ll waste lots of time.”

Su Nai reported the work progress methodically, simply outlining the outstanding issues, which surprised Jiang Qin.

Seems he had underestimated her; in the tech field, “Nai Nai” was unmatched.

Moreover, Jiang Qin felt his earlier bias was too deep; Su Nai really wasn’t always focused on frivolous stuff, or she wouldn’t have grown so noticeably.

“Nai Nai, when you’re not distracted, you’re really reliable.”

    “…”

Listening to Jiang Qin’s approval, Su Nai wasn’t sure whether to feel praised or insulted.

Just then, footsteps echoed from downstairs; Professor Yan stomped up in leather shoes, muttering about whether Room 207 was having hot pot again as he could smell it.

Soon after arriving, Jiang Qin pulled him over to his parents for an elaborate introduction.

“Mom, dad, this is Professor Yan, a veteran professor from Linchuan, brought back post-retirement to manage the entrepreneurship base. My project thrived mainly due to his support. Without his guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

“Throughout his life, he took teaching as his mission. He is respected by all, and even today, he continues to help us students in various ways.”

Upon hearing this, Yuan Youqin and Jiang Zhenghong immediately began thanking Professor Yan, grateful for nurturing Jiang Qin and for his general care.

And believe it or not, Mrs. Yuan’s tone now resembled how she requested Gao Wenhui and others to take care of the little rich girl, which might explain why they confused the two.

Professor Yan was overwhelmed by Jiang Qin’s flattery and his parents’ gratitude, which left him somewhat disoriented, and he soon joined in the pleasantries.

Accepting thanks from a student and their parents felt quite different, giving the professor a sense of achievement in his educational efforts, and he momentarily forgot why he came here—to hint to Jiang Qin that it had been a while since he last had hot pot.

    “Jiang Qin.”

    “What’s up, Professor?”

Professor Yan paused: “What did I come here for again?”

Jiang Qin gave a thumbs up: “Professor, your eyes are as clear as a university student’s.”

    “?”

After sending Professor Yan on his way, Jiang Qin slightly smirked, thinking that now, having seen the real scene and with Professor Yan’s backing, even if he stirred up something newsworthy, his parents wouldn’t be too surprised.

“Your son really has something, setting up a company at university,” Yuan Youqin said as they left the entrepreneurship base, somewhat amazed.

Jiang Zhenghong took a couple of drags from his cigarette: “He must have gotten it from you. Haven’t you seen how he…..well, talks? It’s just like how you deal with me.”

“Are you saying I should have gone into business when I was young?”

“Maybe, our times were different, plus you didn’t get a university education.”

Yuan Youqin didn’t ponder too much, feeling reassured: “Honestly, I don’t expect Jiang Qin to be filthy rich, as long as he’s healthy, stays clear of illegal stuff, and is good to Nanshu, I’m content.”

Jiang Zhenghong looked at his wife, thinking she was rather simplistic. How could their son afford to be good to Feng Nanshu without being wealthy? After all, the girl rides in a car with little golden men.

This rascal talks about money all the time. Having silently started a business in university, part of the pressure might indeed stem from that.

“We’ve seen enough, let’s head back to the hotel. I’ve been sitting in the car all day; my back hasn’t had a break.”

Yuan Youqin shook her head: “I need to wait for Nanshu to get out of class and take her shopping, or else the next time we meet won’t be until the holidays.”

“Shall I go back by myself?”

Just then Jiang Qin came out of the entrepreneurship base and shared their next plans.

“Alright, mom, you go with Feng Nanshu. As for dad, you can’t go back; you need to treat my roommates to a meal. Think about it, since you’ve come, you’ve treated Feng Nanshu’s whole dormitory but missed ours. It wouldn’t sound good if word got out.”

After hearing this, Jiang Zhenghong nodded: “Makes sense. Give them a call, and we can get some drinks in the evening.”

“Don’t rush to get drinks, dad. I still don’t know where Nanshu’s classroom is.”

“Right, let me have my secretary guide you then.”

Jiang Qin made a call to Wen Jinrui, brought her out thinking since the mother and daughter planned to go shopping, having her could help with payments and finding the way.

    Huh? Why mother and daughter?

Before Jiang Qin could reflect, he found his eager mother already following Wen Jinrui towards the teaching building.

It was four-thirty in the afternoon, and the students in the classrooms hadn’t finished yet, so Yuan Youqin just stood at the door waiting, barely noticeable to some of the students in the front row through the glass.

Many parents visiting the school liked to secretly watch their children studying, so it wasn’t strange.

However, before long, the otherwise quiet corridor filled with the sound of high heels—Class 4’s instructor Xue Hongying walking briskly towards them, intending to organize a fire drill, but she paused when she saw Yuan Youqin.

    “Are you a student’s parent?”

“Yes, I’m Jiang Qin’s mom. Hello, teacher.”

Xue Hongying paused: “The Jiang Qin from Class 3?”

Yuan Youqin was also surprised: “You know him?”

“Jiang Qin is our school’s entrepreneurship star. Not just me, but no teacher in any department here doesn’t know him.”

“You flatter him, teacher. That boy just loves messing around with all sorts.”

Xue Hongying smiled, then suddenly remembered, “But it seems you’ve come to the wrong place; they don’t have joint classes today. This is Class 4’s classroom.”

Yuan Youqin was also startled before she clarified, “Oh, teacher, you’re mistaken. I’m not looking for Jiang Qin. I’m waiting for Nanshu’s class to end. She’s in Class 4, right?”

    “……”

Xue Hongying took a deep breath, suddenly reinvigorated!

Being the admin of the Ke Xue Home fan club in Class 4, could she be ordinary?

Jiang Qin’s mom waiting for Feng Nanshu to finish class? Alright, alright, this is getting interesting. Now I’m energized!
