Chapter Index

“Zhihu is about to hit ten million users, which is more than enough for Jiang Qin. Now, pulling back the marketing team to join the Linchuan Business Group’s branding strategy will help speed things up.

After all, besides using Zhihu as a stepping stone, these supporting pillars need to be strong enough to achieve quick and effective results to form a business loop.

This way, group-buying will stand invincible, even if burning through capital, it’s hard to settle in a short time.

Also, Alibaba’s Singles’ Day shopping festival is a new peak in the history of online shopping, a major plan. Alibaba will definitely spare no effort to hype it up without considering the cost.

Holding the resources of universities nationwide, Jiang Qin will not let go of this opportunity to demand a hefty promotion fee.

The higher the fee, the more stable Zhihu’s brand value will stand, attracting even more attention.

Whether Alibaba will make things difficult for him later isn’t even a question. Their investment style is to nurture then devour. Even if he doesn’t ask much, he’ll end up wearing these ‘little shoes’.

Lastly, group-buying was the most significant project in the 2010 business plan and the culmination of Jiang Qin’s countless efforts. Having Dong Wenhao prepare for half a year isn’t excessive at all.

Jiang Qin smiles, his luminous fangs casting an eerie glow.

Initially, it was just about gaining financial freedom, not planning to go big. Now, the bigger it gets, the better.

“Everyone’s clear on their tasks, right?”

Jiang Qin had been assigning tasks without looking up; finishing, he realized all the scary-looking demons and monsters.

The Grim Reaper with his scythe, a terrifying nun, a Qing dynasty zombie, a Silent Hill nurse, and a swimming champion Chu Renmei, all baring teeth, creating quite a hellish scene.

No wonder workers have more grievances than ghosts!

Especially as the room was dark without lights, but some electronics’ lights blinked red or green, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

    “Cough, cough…”

“Just remembered something, have we not issued bonuses for a while?”

Jiang Qin pulls out a thick envelope from his desk, slapping a stack of cash in his hand. Seeing this, the menacing crowd suddenly eased up, looking somewhat dumbfounded.

Until each red bill, like a talisman, stuck to their foreheads and they thanked the boss.

“Heard the drama club is having a Halloween themed costume ball at the front square, let’s go check it out after finishing up work.”

    “Long live the boss!”

“Really? Death itself hailing me? Shameless, money really can make ghosts grind the mill.”

Jiang Qin flips back his cape, looking as cool as Daniel Wu.

Around the millennium, the atmosphere was gradually opening up. Western esthetic trends entered through movies, promoting cultural exchange.

Halloween, for example, is especially popular in universities prone to these trends.

At nightfall, Boss Jiang’s Academy Supermarket sported pumpkin lights, looking quite tasteful, while the front square had many part-time students dressed as little skeletons distributing flyers.

Meanwhile, Xitian was running a promotion, offering bagged blood-themed milk tea packages, even fashioning the straws into infusion tubes.

The costume ball hosted by the drama club was near the maple forest south of the front square, beside which stood a sign saying, ‘Missing You Like Hell,’ inspired by Xitian’s popular check-in wall.

As night deepened, a pair of fluttering little wings appeared at the junction from Academy Road to the front square.

Jiang Qin turned his head and saw a cute little rich girl.

Feng Nanshu wore a black dress with a leather vest over it, pointed horns on her head, two black bat wings on her back, and an S-shaped tail tipped with a heart.

She also wore black stockings and short boots, her eyeshadow and lipstick matching in black. Coupled with her expressionless face, she looked exactly like a high-class little demon.

Her features were already exquisite, and this outfit made her absolutely enchanting.

Watching her approach from the shadows, Jiang Qin couldn’t take his eyes off her, feeling like he was missing out with every glance not taken.

    “Damned charming demon.”

“It’s because I’m a bit silly and a good friend, and I accidentally fell into hell,” Feng Nanshu explained solemnly.

Jiang Qin’s mouth twitched: “You even buffed yourself up?”

Feng Nanshu narrowed her eyes: “Brother, compliment me.”

“Absolutely gorgeous, almost a heavenly envoy on earth, though sweeping Daniel Wu off his feet in Jizhou might still be tough.”

Tonight, Wei Lanlan was dressed as a witch, standing beside with a pointed witch’s hat: “I picked this out for the boss’s lady, never thought it’d fit this well. She looks stunning.”

Feng Nanshu puffed her cheeks: “Lanlan is such a good person.”

“Then… what the hell is student Gao supposed to be?”

Jiang Qin turned to Gao Wenhui, who had sanitary paper wrapped around his head, only his eyes visible, donned in a white tracksuit.

“A mummy, but Fan Shuling was too stingy, complained I was wasting sanitary paper, saying wearing white would do.”

“Good thing you explained, I almost thought your cosplay was a college girl too ashamed to show her face.”

Gao Wenhui squinted: “Then you must be playing a vampire count that speaks dog language.”

    “Thanks, you’re fired.”

    “?????”

While they were talking, the little rich girl suddenly had a rattling sound from her hand, a shiny chain hitting the ground with a black collar at the end, adorned with a few rivets.

This was an accessory included with the outfit, but Feng Nanshu was a bit puzzled about how to use it.

“Jiang Qin, I’m not sure how this works.”

    Jiang Qin: “?”

Before he could answer, two old acquaintances appeared in the front square, one was Ding Xue wearing a white lab coat with black eyeshadow.

She also held a similar chain, with the other end around Cao Guangyu. Old Cao’s outfit was quite unique, wearing a blue and white striped patient’s costume, his head painted with a blood stain, his neck locked, looking very pitiful.

    “What’s this about…?”

Ding Xue shook the chain in her hand: “I’m a deranged doctor who conducted human experiments due to cancer.”

Cao Guangyu puffed up his chest: “I’m a rich kid held captive by this mad doctor, filthy rich kind, also, I have Stockholm Syndrome.”

Jiang Qin took a closer look at Old Cao: “Captivity and Stockholm are evident, but where’s the rich kid element?”

    “Right here.”

Cao Guangyu unbuttoned his collar to reveal a large plastic gold chain, blocked by the collar, so it wasn’t clear unless looked at closely.

Feng Nanshu glanced at the chain in her hand then at Jiang Qin’s neck: “Brother, I think I know how to use this.”

“No, you’re wrong, it’s definitely not for that.”

    “……”

Halloween doesn’t hold special meaning for Chinese people; tonight’s buzz is mainly because college students are easily excitable.

Simply put, the holiday isn’t important; what matters is finding an excuse to let loose.

They don’t spend money on cosplay outfits like Ding Xue, who is a medical student and wore her own lab coat, while Old Cao’s patient’s costume was just a sleepwear with the same pattern.

In letting loose, it’s not about how much you spend but about creativity.

Jiang Qin, with his group at the Xitian entrance, watched a play arranged by the drama club at the front square while chatting.

They also saw Zhou Chao with a bucket of instant noodles claiming he was cosplaying a food bin. They also noticed Jiang Tian, Jian Chun, and Song Qingqing who didn’t dress up but were bustling around.

Meanwhile, the little rich girl had already undone the collar connected by the chain, her eyes brimming with eagerness, though she couldn’t succeed in her attempts.

Until ten o’clock at night, people started leaving, taking photos together, while Jiang Qin held Feng Nanshu’s hand walking back, eventually detouring into the maple forest.

    “Jiang Qin.”

    “Hmm?”

    “Life is so interesting now.”

Feng Nanshu straddled his lap, snuggling softly into his embrace, her mouth close to his ear, her voice gentle.

Jiang Qin grasped the tail behind her, shaking it slightly: “Wasn’t it interesting before?”

“It was fun before too, but I was afraid, so I dared only by myself, not daring to go to interesting places.”

    “……”

The little rich girl snuggled up in his arms, whispering mischievously, “I used to hear classmates talk about so many fun things, but I only dared to imagine them in my mind, pretending I’d seen them—swinging cars, small commodity cities and all.”

Jiang Qin hugged her tighter: “Were you this timid before?”

“I’m still timid now, but with you, I dare. Otherwise, I’d just hide in the dorm, waiting for Wen Hui to come back and tell me about it, then I’d let my imagination run wild.”

Jiang Qin fell silent for a moment as if seeing a version of Feng Nanshu who only felt safe in familiar places.

But trapped too deeply while also being curious about everything outside.

    So…

Jiang Qin realized he’d made a mistake.

She had never participated in Halloween, hadn’t even spent the Winter Solstice with friends, never rode a bus, shopped in a mall, received a gift, not even visited a small commodity city…

That summer break, she met you, mustered the courage to befriend you, and you took her to some trivial places. But in her heart, these were dazzling new worlds.

You took her on swinging cars, fed her, and had everyone call her the boss’s lady. In her heart, those were the most fun things, so she clung to you, wanting to be with you for life.

You brought her a life unlike any before, letting her see things she was curious about.

Feng Nanshu’s waist suddenly went limp: “Jiang Qin, don’t pinch my butt, I’m getting shy.”

“I didn’t pinch your butt. It’s just my hand. It wants to know how your tail is attached.”

Jiang Qin rubbed her plump buttocks then withdrew his hand from under her skirt: “Feng Nanshu, why do you become braver when I’m around?”

Feng Nanshu wrapped her arms around his neck: “Because you’ll protect me.”

“How are you so sure I’ll protect you?”

    “Because you’re my lifelong friend.”

“Heh, then I can only regretfully tell you, you trusted the wrong person. Feng Nanshu, you’re too naïve to trust me?”

    “……”

Feng Nanshu was startled by his cold tone, hugging him a bit tighter, a tad scared.

The next second, Jiang Qin brushed aside the hair on her neck, his voice even colder: “I won’t protect you. Do you know why? Because I’m a vampire and now, I’m going to suck your blood!”

The little rich girl paused, her legs stiffened suddenly, then felt the uncomfortable press of a cellphone against her buttocks, rubbing frantically.

Jiang Qin remained unflustered knowing his cloak could cover everything, then vigorously gave her a big, red hickey.

By the time the Halloween party ended, it was past ten o’clock, and they had whispered in the maple forest for another fifteen minutes before heading back as the dormitory doors were about to close.

Feng Nanshu waved goodbye to Jiang Qin then returned to her dorm, changed her clothes, and went out to the balcony to turn on the tap.

    I think I peed my pants…

Looking at the basin of slightly shiny little tigers, she couldn’t help but puff her cheeks.
