Chapter Index

It was an autumn afternoon at the entrance of Linchuan University.

Feng Nanshu wore a white hoodie and washed-out blue jeans, her long hair tied into a ponytail. She was riding her pink electric bike back and forth on the leaf-strewn side road, occasionally glancing back at the entrance to the pedestrian street with lively eyes.

She had been hovering there for over half an hour, causing the battery of her little electric bike to drop by one bar.

Since it was mealtime, many students from the pedestrian street were heading across to eat, and many couldn’t help but stop and watch, filled with envy, wondering whose youth this was.

Another look and you’d think, damn, isn’t this youth a bit too glorious? Like something out of a teen drama.

Who could own such a splendid youth? Damn, they really should be cursed.

Just then, amid the gaze of passersby, a taxi stopped at the corner, and Jiang Qin got out, immediately spotting the little rich girl swaying back and forth on her electronic bike.

At the same time, the little rich girl spotted him and made her way around the divider, zooming towards him.

Feng Nanshu didn’t like makeup, at most following Gao Wenhui’s advice to wear a bit of lipstick, so the natural beauty coming towards him was even more captivating.

Jiang Qin let go of his suitcase and pinched her face, rubbing her little head several times, making the little rich girl sway.

“Dear friend, what are you doing at the school gate?”

“I’m waiting for you to come back and hang out with me.”

Jiang Qin looked into her bright eyes, his pride from the industry conference instantly softening.

Damn, what good deeds did I do in my past life to save the planet?

None, right? It was just during some crappy times that I couldn’t bear the sufferings of others, donated a few hundred bucks, and also planted some Saxaul trees online, never even seeing what my Saxaul trees looked like.

Jiang Qin sat in the back seat, pulled out the handle of his suitcase, then wrapped his arms around his good friend’s slender waist.

Wearing jeans, Feng Nanshu’s bottom looked particularly perky, especially seated on the bike, which the hot-blooded youth found quite challenging to ignore.

“Let’s go, drive brother back to the dorm and drop off the luggage.”

“Then we’ll eat mooncakes,” Feng Nanshu cleverly planned their next steps.

Jiang Qin was baffled by her leap in logic: “Eat what mooncakes? I haven’t even had lunch yet. Let’s just have dinner together later.”

    “Eat stir-fried chili with mooncakes.”

“Have you been eyeing that bizarre culinary creation at school?”

Feng Nanshu hummed without responding, then twisted the handlebar and rode her pink bike into the campus, heading towards the male dormitory.

The little rich girl usually went to room 208, but this was her first time at Jiang Qin’s dorm building. Curious about his ‘den’, since Jiang Qin had visited her dorm before, she wanted to take a look too.

Jiang Qin didn’t want her waiting outside; the autumn chill was setting in fast. So he informed the dorm supervisor and brought her up to his room.

Before entering, Jiang Qin asked the little rich girl to wait at the door while he checked if his three ‘buddies’ were dressed.

Fortunately, all three were decently clothed; after all, deep autumn wasn’t summer, and it wasn’t common to find fools shirtless at this time.

    “Bros, your emperor has returned.”

Cao Guangyu glanced at him: “Did you skip class again today?”

Jiang Qin’s mouth twitched: “I’ve been gone for five days, didn’t you know?”

“Nonsense, I swear I saw you at the entrepreneurship base just yesterday morning.”

“Awesome, you must have eyes everywhere.”

Jiang Qin pulled open the door, called Feng Nanshu in, and whispered something about the empress arriving, which bewildered his three roommates.

Ren Ziqiang was smoking when he witnessed this scene, scaring him enough to drop his cigarette on the bed. Frantically picking it up and stuffing it into his mouth, he screamed out in pain, cursing as he had smoked it the wrong way around.

“Hello Ren, hello Chao, hello young master Cao.”

Feng Nanshu waved gently, and the three guys just nodded awkwardly and greeted her.

Feng Nanshu looked around curiously: “Why does your dorm have only four people?”

Jiang Qin put down his suitcase: “The old buildings for female dorms all house six, but most of the new buildings for male dorms have four.”

Cao Guangyu pulled Jiang Qin aside: “Can you bring girlfriends into the dorm?”

“Friends can, girlfriends probably not so much.”

“Is that the point? I don’t care how stubborn you are, I was too scared to bring Ding Xue for a visit.”

“You can if you convince the auntie.”

“How did you convince the auntie?”

“I don’t have to. She works part-time in group buying and has to mind my mood.”

    “?????”

Jiang Qin had Feng Nanshu sit properly in his chair, then he went to change his clothes in the bathroom: “This trip saved quite a bit of money, let’s all go out for a meal later, my treat.”

Ren Ziqiang raised his head from the bed: “Jiang brother, can I bring someone along?”

“Sure, Old Cao can also bring Ding Xue. Aside from that time during Mid-Autumn, we haven’t really had a proper gathering this semester.”

“Ding Xue has a lab experiment this afternoon, around six. Can we wait for a bit?”

“Sure, we’ll wait till six. It’s still early anyway.”

Jiang Qin turned on his computer, found a movie for the little rich girl, and they passed the time waiting.

Initially, Feng Nanshu sat on the chair while Jiang Qin stood beside her, but it soon changed.

It turned into Jiang Qin sitting on the chair with Feng Nanshu in his arms, the three roommates looking bewildered, thinking, are they really just friends? Not hiding feelings now, are we?

However, Feng Nanshu felt her spare phone poking her, almost making her want to call him ‘brother,’ unable to focus on the movie. Her eyes wandering, she started looking upwards.

The beds in Linchuan University dorms were loft-style with desks underneath, but since the barriers were open-work, items often slipped out from under the beds.

As Feng Nanshu watched, she suddenly noticed a box under the bedclothes. She reached out, pulled it back into Jiang Qin’s arms, and quietly opened the box, her expression turning to surprise.

Inside was a blue card with her photo and her name on it, and below it, a line read.

    “Department 208, Position: Lady Boss.”

She had visited the entrepreneurship base several times and knew they all had such a badge, but she didn’t have one herself. She was surprised to find it here.

    “My Lady Boss badge…”

    “What?”

Jiang Qin came back to his senses and saw Feng Nanshu holding the badge he had prepared for her two years ago. There was a twinkle in her eyes.

Feng Nanshu looked up at him, her eyes tearful: “My Lady Boss badge.”

“You found that? Who said it’s yours?”

“It’s mine, it even has my name on it,” Feng Nanshu pouted as she spoke.

Jiang Qin looked at her: “Your probation period isn’t over yet.”

“It’s long over. I even have your heirloom, and you still won’t issue me a badge.”

    “…”

Jiang Qin looked at her up-close face: “Don’t wear it all the time, take it off when you sleep. If you lose it, I won’t replace it.”

Feng Nanshu looked at him with a happy expression: “I know, I won’t wear it when I sleep.”

“So you’ll wear it all the other times?”

The little rich girl nodded, already self-sufficiently taking out the work badge and hanging it around her neck.

Watching this, Jiang Qin’s gaze softened slightly. Other girls liked gold, silver, and big diamonds, but his good friend didn’t. She just wanted a plastic badge that cost less than two bucks, easy to please.

Actually, he should have given her the badge long ago, but never found the right moment.

Now, the little rich girl had found it herself. It wasn’t man-made but a choice of fate. Otherwise, why couldn’t others find it? Why did the badge specifically bear her name and photo?

Those who have been reborn know, too many coincidences mean fate. No one can resist fate.

Later, Ding Xue called, saying she had finished her experiment, so they all went to Nanshan Restaurant outside the campus for a meal.

Then Cao Guangyu told Ding Xue about Jiang Qin bringing Feng Nanshu back to the dorm, exciting her, as she had always wanted to do something so thrilling but never had the chance.

“We should visit your dorm too.”

Ding Xue’s ‘we’ included Wang Linlin and Feng Nanshu.

Feng Nanshu agreed; she had been apart from Jiang Qin for five days and now wanted to stick with him. Plus, she hadn’t had her fill of fun in his dorm.

“I’ve been at university for four years, and there are still places I haven’t set foot in. Just thinking about it feels like a loss.”

Jiang Qin agreed with Ding Xue: “Right, I used to think the same when I went to the bathhouse, looking across and wondering how there could be places I couldn’t access. Is there still law and order?”

Feng Nanshu stared at him: “Brother, you’re not allowed to go.”

“I didn’t say I was really going to.”

Ding Xue squinted at Jiang Qin: “President Jiang, didn’t expect you and Old Cao to be so nosy.”

    Jiang Qin: “?”

“It’s settled then. Let’s all visit the male dorm.”

Wang Linlin and Ren Ziqiang, also in the throes of romance, finding even the slightest thing delightful, were curious about Ren Ziqiang’s living environment, so they didn’t object either.

Thus, a group of seven went to visit room 302.

Once inside, Cao Guangyu turned on his computer: “Snow, take a seat. Let me show you how fast a rich second generation’s computer can be!”

After trying, Ding Xue nodded: “It’s fast, but why is your E drive so full it’s red? Can I open it?”

Young master Cao smiled lightly: “Better not. It’s just some graduate exam materials. You’ve already been accepted for postgrad; I can’t fall behind.”

“Since you put it that way, now I really want to take a look.”

    “…”

Feng Nanshu watched them, then turned to Jiang Qin: “Brother, let’s see your E drive.”

After hearing that, Jiang Qin’s eyebrows shot up: “How did you learn this so quickly?”

Meanwhile, Ren Ziqiang and Wang Linlin sat side by side, leaning on the table, whispering about their future dreams.

“How about we name her Ren Ailin? What do you think?”

    “Sure, I’ll listen to you.”

Zhou Chao alone stood in the dim dorm, watching their affectionate exchanges, and couldn’t help but touch his unfinished web novel.

Why he was standing was because he had given his chair to Wang Linlin.

    “His knife is cold…”

    “His sword is cold…”

    “His blood is cold…”

    “His heart is cold…”

“These three servings of dog food are also cold…”

“And it seems I am superfluous…”

Just then, Ren Ziqiang suddenly looked up: “Jiang brother, Linlin said they don’t have many classes this semester, could they work part-time at the tea shop?”

Wang Linlin nodded: “I also want to try working and studying; can we, Jiang brother?”

Jiang Qin thought for a moment, then turned to Feng Nanshu: “You ask her. She’s the lady boss and even has the badge. Just now she was bold enough to command me to buy her mooncakes.”

Feng Nanshu tugged at her badge: “I think it’s fine.”

“See, a certified lady boss is indeed formidable.”
