Chapter 445: My Friend’s Scarf
by xennovelLittle rich girl once got hit by a holiday nuke from Su Nai, opening a crack into a whole new world. Though she only understood a bit through that crack, she got a bit of it.
So she looked at Jiang Qin with a frosty face, asking him if it smelled nice. Her little head got pat, making her exclaim in surprise.
“I’m a fashion stylist, not some weirdo. I was looking, not smelling!”
“Oh.”
“Are you awake? If you are, go wash up. It’s almost time for dinner.”
Feng Nanshu nodded obediently, then slipped into her slippers to head for the bathroom.
Jiang Qin breathed a sigh of relief, stretched his hand to grab the remote, and turned on the TV, picking a channel at random to calm his nerves while waiting for the little rich girl to finish washing up.
Earlier, Feng Nanshu had returned to her room to take off a cropped down jacket. She needed to change into another one before leaving, so she dashed into the living room and crouched beside her suitcase to search through it.
Seeing this, Jiang Qin walked over, reached for a coat on the couch, and suddenly felt his neck warm up—a gray scarf had appeared around his collar.
“Brother, Happy New Year.”
Feng Nanshu wrapped it around him with her fair, slender hands, her eyes full of cleverness and sweetness.
Jiang Qin looked at her, “Did you make this yourself?”
“Yes, I bought the yarn and learned from Wang Haini. Good friends give these as gifts.”
“Why have I never heard of this rule about making friends?”
Feng Nanshu said I never lie to you, why don’t you believe me, then she straightened his hem with her hand, her eyes full of happiness.
She had never done this for a boy before, and it felt like fulfilling a dream. She couldn’t help but feel a little excited.
Jiang Qin glanced at her, thinking how it was supposed to be a gift from her, yet she seemed the happier one.
“Is it on right?”
Feng Nanshu nodded, “It’s on, and it looks quite handsome.”
Jiang Qin pinched her cheek, “Only you see clearly.”
“I’m telling the truth.”
“It does look good, but I’m rough with things, and it’s gray. Probably, I’ll get it dirty soon.”
As Jiang Qin spoke, he helped Feng Nanshu put on her coat, then led her out of the room. Right outside, they bumped into Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini in the hallway.
Upon seeing Jiang Qin with the scarf, their expressions shifted from surprise to a mischievous smile.
“Yo.”
“What yo? Why are you like Old Cao? Get lost!”
“…”
Then, the rested group all gathered in the lobby before heading out for dinner, riding in a car to a nearby restaurant.
The restaurant’s food was good, the only regret being that there were no dumplings.
It was New Year’s Day, and not having dumplings felt kind of a pity, especially since they used to make dumplings together on this day, bringing some nostalgia.
“Would have been nice to make dumplings together again.”
“Restaurants or station facilities don’t have kitchens.”
Just then, the private room door swung open and a waiter came in carrying a pot of spicy Szechuan dish brimming with red oil broth.
Lu Feiyu sat by the door and took the dish from the tray.
As Jiang Qin was discussing a recent promotion with everyone, he suddenly stood, clutching his scarf and moved hastily to a corner, startling everyone.
“Boss, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. I’m just avoiding the broth spattering on me.”
Lu Feiyu widened his eyes, “How could it spatter? I’m between Wen Hao and Lan Lan!”
Jiang Qin felt relieved once the basin was set down safely, then rejoined the table, “I’m just being extra tidy today.”
“????”
Feng Nanshu watched this playfully, swinging her feet under the table.
Wei Lanlan and Dong Wenhao, the sharpest ones there, glanced at the boss’s scarf, clearly remembering it wasn’t there in the afternoon.
Seeing the way he cherished it, no questions asked, it surely was a gift from his lady.
Meanwhile, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini couldn’t help but exchange looks and giggle, thinking this guy really knows how to play it smooth.
“Boss, what’s our plan for tomorrow?”
As if clueless, Lu Feiyu suddenly asked. He hadn’t caught on to anything.
Jiang Qin thought for a moment, “I’m taking Feng Nanshu to visit relatives tomorrow. You guys can hang out and explore the places we missed last time.”
Hearing this, everyone began discussing tomorrow’s plans all at once.
Despite being managers, they were all fresh out of university, and got quite excited when talking about outings.
After discussing, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini decided to join Jiang Qin on his visit.
The reason was simple: although everyone knew each other, these two weren’t as familiar with the folks from Room 208, and didn’t share much in common; plus Gao was here mainly for sweet moments.
“Jiang Qin, which relatives are you visiting?”
“Uncle and aunt.”
“?”
Feng Nanshu quietly looked at him and ate a slice of lotus root he fed her.
…
The next morning, bathed in radiant sunlight, everyone gathered at the Hilton’s front desk after freshening up.
Dong Wenhao, acting as the driver, drove Tan Qing’s BMW, with Lu Feiyu in the co-driver’s seat, and Wei Lanlan, Su Nai, and Tan Qing in the back.
Jiang Qin drove his reliable old car, with Feng Nanshu as co-driver and Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini in the back.
The two groups set off along the sun-drenched boulevard, heading in different directions.
Along the way, Gao Wenhui curiously kept asking Jiang Qin what sort of uncle and aunt they were, and whether Feng Nanshu had met them before.
Jiang Qin glanced at her through the rearview mirror, smiling at how Gao could be quite an amusing character.
“Gao, not so many questions. They’re from a distinguished family. Don’t be too crude.”
“Yeah right, I don’t believe that.”
But as they arrived at Sheshan Manor, disbelief wasn’t an option for Gao Wenhui, one of Shanghai’s most luxurious villa areas. Just the approaching greenery made her dizzy.
Once inside the villa, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini showed expressions of shock. They had met Jiang’s parents before—an ordinary couple, so finding such affluent relatives was hard to comprehend.
However, Gao’s attention was soon diverted.
She saw an elegantly dressed lady step out of the house. Seeing Feng Nanshu, her eyes filled with joy as she quickly embraced her.
“You girl, when did you arrive?”
“Aunt, I came yesterday.”
Feng Nanshu quietly allowed herself to be embraced by Qin Jingqiu, her demeanor gentle and serene, unlike her previous resistance due to feeling abandoned.
Seeing this, Jiang Qin couldn’t help but smile contentedly.
Human emotions vary widely. He could make the little rich girl happy, but he couldn’t fill the gap of familial warmth. Even Yuan Youqin’s care for Feng Nanshu was more like that of an ordinary aunt, not a mother’s love.
The little rich girl had no mother, so only Qin Jingqiu, who had raised her, could offer that affection.
“Jiang Qin, see how much your aunt likes Feng Nanshu. You’re always so tough to crack.”
Gao Wenhui felt her blood sugar rise instantly. No dizziness, no blurring, just a bright smile.
She felt so moved because of the sense of identity, similar to how Jiang’s mother treated Feng Nanshu—like mother and daughter, ready to get married right there.
Jiang Qin glanced at her, thinking she’s still got it wrong, just like she did with his parents.
“Jiang Qin, why didn’t you give your aunt a heads-up?”
After a while, Qin Jingqiu let go of the little rich girl and looked at Jiang Qin: “Had I known you were coming, I would have prepared some food.”
Jiang Qin grinned, “It’s a surprise! No need for meals, aunt. We had breakfast at the hotel. Oh, and let me introduce Feng Nanshu’s roommates, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini.”
“Hello, auntie.”
Gao and Wang were a bit nervous, having felt overwhelmed by Feng Nanshu’s presence at the start of university, not to mention facing Qin Jingqiu.
But due to her affection for Feng Nanshu, Qin Jingqiu was very kind to them, asking about their hometowns and families just like any ordinary parent would.
“Don’t be shy, make yourselves at home. Here, have an apple.”
“Would you like some bananas too?”
“There are oranges as well…”
Jiang Qin, feeling completely at home, picked up two apples from the coffee table and handed them to them, leaving Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini bewildered.
“Jiang Qin, what does your aunt do for a living?”
“She’s not my aunt.”
“Hmm?”
Jiang Qin peeled an orange and popped a piece in his mouth: “She’s Feng Nanshu’s aunt.”
Hearing this, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini immediately held their breath and turned to look at Feng Nanshu, who was nodding.
Damn, this guy acts like he’s half the homeowner here, telling them to make themselves at home. Turns out it’s Feng Nanshu’s aunt’s place?
Have you guys already swapped houses or what?!
Just then, a car engine sounded outside, and before long, Feng Shihua came back, having rushed home after getting a call from his wife. He entered, immediately starting to speak.
“Alright, Jiang Qin, finally brought Nanshu back to us?”
“It’s the holiday season, just had the time. Otherwise, it would have been Chinese New Year’s again. What were you up to, uncle?”
“I went to check on some furniture that was delivered.”
“Replacing furniture? The current ones seem pretty new.”
Jiang Qin said this while glancing at the sofa he was sitting on, which indeed looked new.
Feng Shihua laughed: “Not for our house. It’s for yours.”
“?”
With that, four baffled faces filled the room.
