Chapter Index

“Brother Cao, cool down, don’t be rash.”

Seeing Cao Guangyu about to press the sharp point of a pen, Ren Ziqiang quickly stopped him.

Young master Cao took a deep breath, pushing Ren Ziqiang’s hand away: “Don’t worry, I can’t beat him, he has abs.”

Ren Ziqiang was stunned, then watched Old Cao draw on the back of his own hand with a pen, ultimately sketching a large “coward”.

    Ren Ziqiang: “?”

Young master Cao was also confused: “That’s wrong, I meant to write ‘endure’. How did I mistake it?”

    “……”

“Brother Cao, I think you have a kind of brain stem missing beauty.”

    “?????”

Jiang Qin, hearing the two clowns behind him chatter, couldn’t help but grab a pack of almonds from his pocket and toss it back to keep their mouths busy and stop them from incessantly disturbing his studying.

These almonds were meant as a snack for the little rich girl, but since study rooms were fully booked at the year-end, they didn’t get to sit together.

Actually, Jiang Qin could have switched classes or something, but he felt that wouldn’t be right, what if people said Jiang Qin, the big boss, is still clinging to his best friend? So the almonds went to the two dogs behind him instead.

    “Thanks, Bro Jiang!”

“Old Jiang, you do have some conscience!”

Just as he was about to place the almonds on the desks of the two, suddenly, a bustling noise came from the back door, and Jiang Qin looked up to see Class Four people entering with bags.

Feng Nanshu walked in last, wearing a down jacket with a fluffy hood, her hair tied in a ponytail, walking among the girls with a cold expression and cool eyes.

Crossing the hallway, the little rich girl came next to Jiang Qin, then softly called out ‘brother’ and sat down.

Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini also followed, sitting on the other side of the tiered classroom alongside Jiang Qin.

Cao Guangyu and Ren Ziqiang, expecting snacks, suddenly found Jiang Qin had taken the bag of almonds back, looking utterly surprised.

    “?????”

“Damn, did he just feint at us?!”

“Brother Cao, I can’t take it anymore. You stab him with the pen, I’ll keep watch for you.”

Cao Guangyu pressed his ballpoint pen, making it click ominously as if indicating a deep-seated revenge he had to exact. Eventually, he grabbed Ren Ziqiang’s hand despite his protests and wrote an even larger and blacker “coward” on his hand.

    Ren Ziqiang: “……”

At that moment, Jiang Qin opened the almonds, peeled one, and popped it into the mouth of the little rich girl: “What brought you all here in the middle of class?”

“The heater spewed water,” Feng Nanshu softly said.

    “?”

    “Who teased it?”

    Feng Nanshu: “?”

Jiang Qin grabbed a handful of almonds, handed them to the two goofs behind him, then turned to Gao Wenhui: “Explain, what does ‘the heater spewed water’ mean?”

Gao Wenhui sighed, “Our class rep said the small classrooms are warmer, so we’ve been trying to book them for self-study. Just our luck, the heater burst, so we had to switch rooms unexpectedly. It’s just bad luck.”

“So, you ended up here by coincidence?”

“Who else but us, since our two classes are ‘related’? Where else could we go?”

    “?”

In fact, after the heater in 704 malfunctioned, Xue Yinghong frantically ran over and only relaxed after ensuring no one was scalded.

Then everybody discussed switching classrooms. But since all nearby classrooms were full, Xue Yinghong was worried about her class making too much noise and disturbing other classes, causing disdain. So she told everyone to go back to their dorms for self-study.

But smart Ms. Gao had an idea, pointing to Feng Nanshu: “We can go to Third Class, her husband’s back.”

    Feng Nanshu: “?”

Xue Yinghong thought that might work. Classes Three and Four are related after all, and since Jiang Qin was back, people from Class Three probably wouldn’t feel disturbed—or dare to complain.

Thus, Class Four filed into the Third Class study room.

Damn, these learning enthusiasts are really scary. After hearing this, Jiang Qin muttered ‘awesome,’ then peeled another almond and fed it to the little rich girl.

“Ms. Gao, you got your payslip last month, right? Saw zero but still don’t act cautiously, forgetting pain as soon as the wound heals?”

Jiang Qin remembered her payslip had a deduction note stating it was for spreading rumors about the boss and his wife, damaging their friendship; hence, her entire month’s salary was deducted.

Gao Wenhui scoffed: “These days, who cares about that petty amount when there are plenty of bonuses to spend?”

    “?”

Feng Nanshu was in a panic, but her face stayed cool, then said, “Brother is still eating.”

Meanwhile, Class Four’s boys were staring at them, unable to resist whispering.

It had been a long while since Jiang Qin attended classes, people from Class Three barely saw him, let alone Class Four.

So, the School of Finance spread rumors periodically saying Jiang Qin had made a fortune and dropped out.

Or that Jiang Qin and Feng Nanshu had broken up. They rarely appeared before and now hardly at all, but now seeing Jiang Qin still feeding snacks to their class’s goddess, they felt a pang of envy.

Honestly, no one thought they would last this long. After all, they are not ordinary people.

Especially Jiang Qin, always on canteen news for trifles attracting the whole school’s attention—today he’s making money, tomorrow another highlight. Very prominent.

Freshmen might not even know the dean’s name, but they absolutely know there’s a legendary senior named Jiang Qin.

Isn’t it said, ‘When men get wealthy, they turn bad’? Somehow this couple seems purer than ever.

    “Look at Jiang Qin’s scarf.”

“Seems like the one Feng Nanshu secretly knitted in class, definitely gave it to him…”

“Three years already. Knitting a scarf for Jiang Qin was her only class distraction.”

“I’m so jealous. Why doesn’t anyone cling to me like that, even if they’re not gorgeous!”

“You don’t have Jiang Qin’s power and status.”

“That’s not fair to say. Jiang Qin wasn’t like this in his freshman year; back then, we were just ordinary college students.”

    “……”

Reflecting on their freshman year, people couldn’t help but reminisce about those days. Feng Nanshu’s beauty stunned many on their first day.

Especially the new students’ day when she appeared in a long dress, drastically elevating many male students’ aesthetic standards, helping everyone understand what ‘love at first sight’ really means.

Linchuan University, being a prestigious 985 university, has plenty of geniuses and good kids generally disdain dating.

Don’t talk to me about love. I fucking love studying. My mom said, get a good job after college, there’ll be no shortage of good girls!

Yet even in that environment, initially, everyone couldn’t help but be smitten by Feng Nanshu.

Little did they know, she went next door to find Jiang Qin on the first day of military training and has stuck by him until their junior year.

Although Jiang Qin continued to say they were just friends, making everyone think he was shirking responsibility, the fact that Feng Nanshu has been his only close friend for three years says something.

The title’s value is sometimes determined by quantity. In a class of forty with thirty top students, being a top student isn’t worth much.

So ‘only one’ is far more precious than status.

And though Jiang Qin always maintained they were just friends, he always appeared holding Feng Nanshu’s hand and always walked her to her dorm door before leaving.

His stature at school was formidable, and many girls fancied him, but his actions clearly rejected any possibility with other girls.

Hardcore pure love, truly hardcore pure love.

Right now, Jiang Qin was leaning on the desk, staring at his ‘good friend’s’ eyelashes for a long time, a trickle of saliva escaping his mouth.

Damn, I can’t concentrate on studying, and with the good friend here, it’s utterly a speed bump to learning.

Feng Nanshu appeared obedient, one hand in his and the other tucked in her sleeve, occasionally extending two fingers to gently turn a page.

Her notes were neat, the handwriting beautiful, but often Jiang Qin’s name appeared, and when it did, it was often a whole row.

This was her getting distracted by thoughts of Jiang Qin while studying; such rows of names were essentially like skid marks on a speed bump…

    “Hmm? What’s that?”

    “?”

Feng Nanshu glanced at Jiang Qin, her expression bewildered. When she snapped back to reality, she noticed a pattern on the page she had just turned.

The pattern started with Jiang Qin’s name followed by a red heart, then Feng Nanshu’s name.

Below this pattern was another; starting with a large bear, followed by a heart, and then the words ‘little rich girl’.

The little rich girl panicked momentarily, her hands swiftly extending to cover the notebook’s patterns.

    “There’s nothing.”

“I saw it, don’t try to fool me, show me again.” Jiang Qin looked serious.

Feng Nanshu coolly moved her hands away: “This was drawn by Gao Wenhui.”

    Gao Wenhui: “?”

“But I recognize your handwriting.” Jiang Qin reached out to pinch her cheek.

The little rich girl hissed, pointing at the heart: “The handwriting was mine, but the heart was drawn by Gao Wenhui.”

Jiang Qin turned to Gao Wenhui: “Is that so?”

Ms. Gao straightened her back: “Yes, that’s right, I drew it. Look, the letters are black but the heart is red. Clearly, it’s two different pens.”

    “Makes sense…”

Feng Nanshu looked up at Jiang Qin, then at Gao Wenhui, and then pretended to studiously concentrate on her studies for the entire class.

When class ended, Wang Haini packed up her textbooks, planning to go to the cafeteria for lunch, but found Gao Wenhui still seated, lost in thought.

“Wenhui, what’s the matter? Class is over, time to eat.”

“It’s nothing, I was just thinking about how to spend the end-of-year bonus from the lady boss.”
