Chapter 50: The Cement is a Bit Loose
by xennovelAfter walking Feng Nanshu back Jiang Qin returned to the dorm room along the night. The moment he opened the door a thick cloud of smoke rushed at his face making him cough and retreat several steps.
“Did you guys set the dorm on fire while I was gone?” Jiang Qin’s eyebrows shot up.
Zhou Chao chuckled “Brother Jiang why are you back so late?”
“Something came up ate out.”
Jiang Qin went inside fanning the air with his hand. Looking carefully he saw Zhou Chao playing on his phone Cao Guangyu still madly posting online while the source of the smoke was Ren Ziqiang.
The guy was sitting in a chair with a dull expression staring out the window into the night a half-burnt cigarette in hand. His raised left foot dangled a slipper under his feet countless cigarette butts littered the floor. He looked very decadent the light gone from his eyes.
This scene looked a bit familiar like the Fiery Cloud Evil God?
Jiang Qin glanced at Zhou Chao with a strange expression “What’s up with Ren Ziqiang? Cultivating immortality?”
“He wanted to ask Pan Xiu out today but discovered Pan Xiu was getting cozy with a junior from our department. They were flirting like crazy and even…”
“Stop stop stop enough.”
Jiang Qin immediately cut him off with a righteous look “Ren Ziqiang’s heart must be very bitter right now. Do you want to make him relive it? That’s not moral!”
Zhou Chao instantly shut up upon hearing this while Ren Ziqiang shot over a grateful look.
It’s not embarrassing to like someone but watching the person you like get picked up by another man only to be teased by your roommate would make anyone feel awful.
Jiang Qin changed clothes opened his computer and logged into the admin dashboard to check the website.
Shi Miaomiao had already received her account and started serializing her original novel with an initial 30,000 word release. But because the platform had no real users yet it didn’t get any feedback.
Besides that the Literature Club led by Dong Wenhao had already opened internal accounts and was gradually uploading drafts.
The most impressive was Cao Guangyu. Even without getting paid his “My Simple and Unadorned Wealthy Second Generation Life” series was already on its 35th post.
Jiang Qin clicked in for a rough look.
That dog fart Cao Guangyu was no longer satisfied with real-life pretentiousness and had started stealing pics online to show off.
In the wine tasting episode Old Cao said Lafite was for little brothers he usually chugged straight from the bottle. A real man should drink Domaine de la Romanée-Conti the pinnacle red wine from France’s oldest winery.
In the luxury watch episode Old Cao said Rolex was for nouveau riche he generally preferred to buy Patek Philippe and especially liked its slogan – You never actually own a Patek Philippe you merely look after it for the next generation.
In the campus belle girlfriend episode Old Cao said he was pursued like crazy by the high school goddess but felt troubled because he preferred his own fairy-like little cutie. But the high school campus belle kept pestering him refusing to let go. He was asking for online advice on what he should do.
Jiang Qin paused for a moment thinking why the hell am I looking in a mirror again?
“Jiang when will this website allow video uploads? I want to post a workout video showing my abs.” Cao Guangyu suddenly turned his head.
Jiang Qin was dumbfounded “You have abs?”
“I have hands I can download some.”
“Ha still fucking mixing Chinese and English that’s pretentious enough. The video feature will have to wait still in development.”
Cao Guangyu pouted looking a bit regretful. Unable to post videos his pretentiousness couldn’t reach its peak.
Ignoring him Jiang Qin turned to check the backend data. After a while he suddenly discovered a real user account registered a minute ago – Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu.
“?”
Oh right he had asked her dorm to help test the website during dinner. Feng Nanshu must have taken it to heart registering an account as soon as she got back.
Jiang Qin crossed his legs sipping a Coke while staring at the screen curious what the little rich girl would post.
This was the Internet. For those with permissions no Internet user had any privacy.
Things like hiding posts making them visible to only certain people or only yourself were all bullshit. In the eyes of an admin everything was transparent.
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “A bit afraid of people what to do?”
Triggered by the keyword “what to do” the auto-reply program instantly took effect.
Reply 1 “Don’t worry you’re so great you can definitely do it! Go for it!”
Reply 2 “Believe in yourself don’t hesitate!”
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Not good at chatting with people what to do?”
Reply 1 “Don’t worry you’re so great you can definitely do it! Go for it!”
Reply 2 “Believe in yourself don’t hesitate!”
Seeing this scene Jiang Qin nearly spurted Coke out his nose.
He discovered these cure-all automatic replies had an obvious flaw – triggering the same keyword repeatedly would generate nearly identical answers.
This wouldn’t do it had to be fixed by Su Nai before promotion.
At the same time the little rich girl was still posting questions seemingly not noticing the strangeness of the replies perhaps due to system lag not seeing the responses yet.
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Wanting to go out and play with a boy every day what to do?”
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Going out with a boy makes my heart itch a bit what’s going on?”
Reading up to here Jiang Qin suddenly uncrossed his legs his eyes blank. Something inexplicable seemed to stir in his heart making him a bit restless.
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Can good friends spend their whole lives together?”
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Do you think the name Jiang Qin sounds nice?”
After the latest two questions appeared Feng Nanshu seemed to realize something was off with the website’s replies so she stopped asking anything new.
Looking at those questions Jiang Qin couldn’t help laughing softly. He was dazed for a moment but quickly ignored the ripples rising in his heart.
Love my ass making money is the true path. Don’t think about that random crap.
Jiang Qin opened QQ and gave Su Nai feedback on the issue he just discovered asking her to modify the auto-reply to avoid generating the same responses when the same keyword is triggered repeatedly.
After the chat Jiang Qin was about to shut down the computer to sleep but noticed Feng Nanshu’s account light up again.
Demon Eye Girl Feng Nanshu “Can you tell me what liking someone means?”
Jiang Qin’s breath hitched. He immediately closed the computer.
Crap the seal on his heart seemed to be coming a bit loose for real.
No no no gotta find some cement to seal it up.
“Zhou Chao tell me again what Ren Ziqiang went through earlier. The more detailed the better the more heart-wrenching the better!”
Ren Ziqiang’s head shot up his whole face turning green “I’m so fucking sad already Jiang Qin have you no shame? That’s immoral of you!”
Jiang Qin spat at him “Did you think about morals when you told Pan Xiu I chased someone else for three years? Hurry up Zhou Chao go!”
“Alrighty!” Zhou Chao felt super excited.
He was a southerner with a heavy accent but man could he tell a story with that little twang.
According to him this morning Ren Ziqiang sprayed half a pound of hair gel mustering his courage to ask Pan Xiu out. But as soon as he reached the bottom of the girls’ dorm building he saw Pan Xiu horsing around with a senior at the door laughing and joking her spaghetti strap nearly slipping off.
Ren Ziqiang instantly deflated returning to the dorm and chain-smoking until the whole room seemed on fire.
“Not bad Pan Xiu military training hasn’t even ended and she’s already got herself a senior?”
After listening Jiang Qin felt steadied his heart cemented. Love was indeed a fantasy making money was the true path.
Really hits the spot!
Have Zhou Chao tell it again tomorrow morning should keep him energized the whole day.
