Chapter 607: The Tycoon’s Party
by xennovelHearing Xue Buqun’s explanation, Feng Shihua shifted his gaze and silently watched the young man with a tall stature enter the venue with several internet bigwigs.
He returned to the country when group-buying was in its low-key phase.
Jiang Qin, a behind-the-scenes promoter in the delivery industry, was busy igniting something substantial though not making many big moves.
Thus, Feng Shihua didn’t know much about this man. He seemed vaguely familiar, his name too, but couldn’t recall where he had encountered or heard of him.
“Uncle, everyone has entered. Shall we go in too?”
Seeing the bigwigs entering, Duan Wenzhao could hardly contain himself.
“Hmm, let’s go.”
Feng Shihua looked at Xue Manzi, “Mr. Xue, after you please.”
Xue Manzi nodded and walked forward.
Once inside, it truly was a gathering of moguls, elites were as common as dogs.
Here, throwing a handful of sunflower seeds would definitely hit someone worth over a billion.
Inside the venue, Feng Shihua picked up a wine glass and began scanning around as many eyes started to gather in the same direction.
At the center of those gazes, under the spotlight, was Jiang Qin, who had just entered, warmly shaking hands with the newcomers.
Honestly, these years, internet businesses can’t escape the BAT (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent) curse. The only one who could go against them, cause a huge stir and still grow bigger was Jiang Qin.
The key issue is, he’s only twenty-two.
In this circle, it’s mostly older folks; seeing someone under thirty is rare. Someone like Jiang Qin naturally becomes the center of attention.
Xue Manzi was whispering on the side, “That’s NetEase’s Ding, 360’s Zhou, TCL’s Li, and Sina’s Cao…”
Those he introduced were on Jiang Qin’s path forward. As he approached, people raised their glasses, turned to shake hands with him or clapped him on the shoulder.
“Come on, let me introduce you to Lei, CEO of Xiaomi Technology. He’s also well-known among angel investors.”
“Thank you, Mr. Xue.”
Holding his wine glass, Feng Shihua walked over following Xue Manzi’s introduction and started exchanging pleasantries.
Hurricane Investment is an old investment institution in the country. Though not very active these years, it’s still quite prominent in the industry.
Everyone greeted Feng Shihua with a friendly smile.
That’s how it is in this circle. Venture capitalists capable of investing in commercial brands are always honored guests everywhere.
Although Feng Shihua wasn’t very familiar with the domestic business environment, having a heavy wallet meant he never lacked friends.
“What were you guys talking about just now? You seemed quite engaged.”
Xue Manzi was curious about their recent discussion.
“Old Ma was talking about his cloud computing again. He’s been at it for years without much success, probably a lot are waiting to see a joke since even abroad it hasn’t succeeded.”
“Ah, this time it’s different though. Jiang Qin is quite interested in his cloud computing.”
“These two have been fiercely competing in the market. I didn’t expect they could get along in this area?”
“Oh right, Old Zhang, have you met Jiang Qin before?”
“Never met him. Seeing him this time, I just feel he’s really young, man. If I were as young as him, I would have gone against Old Ma in e-commerce!”
“Seems Lei was about Jiang’s age when he joined Kingsoft?”
“Correct. I joined Kingsoft at twenty-two, similar to President Jiang’s age now, but I only became CEO at age twenty-eight. I can’t compare with him.”
“Both are prodigies unlike us old folks who spent half a lifetime to see some results.”
Feng Shihua silently listened for a while, and realizing that everyone was talking about Jiang Qin, he couldn’t help but turn his gaze back towards the venue, looking at that radiant young man.
At that moment, Jiang Qin had just finished discussing cloud computing with Mr. Ma and met another Mr. Ma, a low-key and reserved middle-aged man.
Both exchanged pleasantries with gentle smiles, discussed the future of WeChat, and enjoyed their conversation before parting ways.
As the party progressed, Feng Shihua continuously observed Jiang Qin, noticing that the people greeting him almost never ceased, which tempted him to make an acquaintance.
It was said that this man held a large portfolio of national brands and that Group-Buy’s supply chain was growing larger, which could greatly assist Feng Corporation’s “Joy City” project.
However, Xue Manzi didn’t personally know Jiang Qin, so Feng Shihua found Lei from Xiaomi Technology instead.
Introductions in the investment circle are routine, and Lei was willing to help. However, when they approached, Jiang Qin had already disappeared.
“Mr. Liu, where did President Jiang go?”
Liu Qiangdong turned to Lei Jun, “Oh, he got a phone call and left.”
Lei Jun was surprised, “The party is only halfway through. Isn’t there a show later? He left already?”
“Probably his wife called. I was close and heard a female voice asking when he would return, kind of coquettish.”
“President Jiang is that young and has a wife? I thought those were just rumors.”
Liu Qiangdong glanced at Lei Jun, “Aren’t you and your wife together since college? Maybe they aren’t married yet, but looking at Jiang’s speed in leaving, a fiancée is certain. Yet, he’s protected her well, never seen at public events, supposedly she’s not fond of crowded places.”
Lei Jun patted his shoulder, “See? Successful people all love their wives dearly. President Ma met his wife in college too.”
Liu Qiangdong smiled, then looked at Feng Shihua, “And this gentleman is?”
“The current head of Feng Corporation, President Feng.”
“Oh, President Feng? I knew President Qin before; we even did some business together.”
Feng Shihua nodded slightly, “Mr. Liu, I’ve heard much about you.”
Lei Jun looked at Liu Qiangdong, “President Feng asked me to introduce him and Jiang to you, but now one has already left.”
“No problem. I have an appointment with President Jiang tomorrow after the noon meeting. We’ll have dinner together in the evening; Mr. Lei and President Feng, please join us. I’ll host.”
“Tomorrow night, okay. President Feng, are you available?”
Feng Shihua nodded, “Of course. But since we’re in Shanghai, let’s not burden Mr. Liu. I’ll host; I know a great local cuisine restaurant.”
As time passed, the party was not yet over, but many had already left.
These business magnates have their own small circles. The party was just a means to meet new faces and boast a bit. Real business discussions actually happen outside of these events.
Feng Shihua also left the banquet hall and returned to his car with Duan Wenzhao heading for Sheshan Manor.
“Do you know about Jiang Qin?”
“Of course, uncle. Group-Buy is currently strong in the delivery sector, but Meal Point has a more solid foundation. I’m not worried about competing with him.”
Duan Wenzhao lifted his lips, “With your investment, Meal Point will enter the national market soon. We might directly compete with Group-Buy in the future.”
Uncle Gong was quietly driving in front, hearing their conversation always had a “should I speak or not” look on his face.
However, none of the three saw that at that moment, by the roadside, a young man dressed in a suit with exceptional temperament was tip-toeing as if not wearing leather shoes, but slippers similar to those from the Fire Cloud Cthulhu, waiting in front of a colorful ice cream shop.
When two ice creams were ready, Jiang Qin then turned and got into his car, heading to Xiangti Villa.
As he entered the villa gate, he saw the little rich girl sitting on a small sofa on the lawn sipping tea, then coughed lightly.
Feng Nanshu turned hearing the sound and ran up to Jiang Qin immediately.
Today she wore a long dress, white above and black below, with a delicate ribbon tied at the front, just like a true aristocrat.
“Brother.”
“Just urging me? There were ladies dancing at the party, and I didn’t even get to watch.”
Feng Nanshu puffed her cheeks then saw Jiang Qin take out the ice cream, staring blankly, “This can’t appease me.”
Jiang Qin narrowed his eyes, thinking this girl seems to know I would coax her.
“Hand one to your aunt.”
“Ow.”
Jiang Qin crumpled the plastic bag into a ball, stuffed it into his pocket, then walked over to the lawn where Qin Jingqiu was sitting, only to discover a brochure on the table—it happened to be from the international kindergarten nearby.
At this moment, Qin Jingqiu, wearing glasses, was carefully studying it, meticulously.
Jiang Qin turned to Feng Nanshu, “Have you been studying this since I left?”
“I didn’t study it. Aunt has been studying it.” Feng Nanshu quickly shifted the blame.
“Really?”
“Really, my best friend can’t have babies, I’m not interested at all.”
Qin Jingqiu, deep in reading, lifted her head upon hearing noises and then noticed Jiang Qin had returned, “Weren’t you at the party? Why are you back so early?”
Jiang Qin sat on the sofa, “Met quite a few people, but most don’t have much business with Group-Buy. The party is just the start; there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss and interact during the meeting, so no rush.”
“True, but it’s good you’re back. The kindergarten nearby officially opens this summer. You might not need it for a couple of years, but if we push hard, it’s soon time for kindergarten. Look, this is their brochure.”
Qin Jingqiu removed her glasses, “I asked Nanshu already. She’s quite satisfied with the school’s overall environment but feels there are too many art enrichment classes. She doesn’t want the baby to start learning too many things; it would be too tiring. What do you think?”
“??????”
Jiang Qin blinked, then put on a confused face looking at Feng Nanshu, “Makes sense, but little rich girl, do you have anything to explain?”
Feng Nanshu narrowed her eyes, seriously and sternly spoke, “You caught me. Actually, I want to go to kindergarten.”
“Are you treating me like a fool again?”
“I’m not. You’re the smartest, I’m just silly.”
