Chapter 636: Short Video Incubation
by xennovelAt the end of a sweltering June, Linchuan University’s graduation ceremony officially began.
In the morning, shards of dawn light spilled through the windows, gradually stirring the dormitory to life.
Voices and footsteps were clearly audible through the wooden dorm doors, sounding as festive as a holiday.
This was mainly because some parents attending the graduation ceremony had arrived and were chatting in the dormitory corridors, inquiring about their children’s future plans and discussing current industry salaries.
Meanwhile, the school set the mood by playing “songs suitable for graduation season” and “songs full of hope for the future” starting at seven in the morning.
Feng Nanshu was woken by the noise, drowsily climbed out of bed and gently rubbed her eyes against the incoming light.
Gao Wenhui’s mom and Wang Haini’s mom were both there, sitting opposite each other, chatting.
“Look at our Wenhui, four years of university and not even a boyfriend.”
“Mom, why talk about this.”
Gao Wenhui lay on her bed with a dark expression.
Wang Haini’s mom glanced at her own daughter: “It’s the same with my girl, always in love since she was young, and now not one left.”
“I don’t have a partner, but I have good friends!”
“I’m not worried about you dating. You should focus on your job prospects.”
“I want to be like Wenhui, a milk tea sister.”
“You’re really ambitious…”
Gao Wenhui was also annoyed: “I’m not a milk tea sister; I’m a manager at Xitian!”
Feng Nanshu perched by the bedrail, gazing foolishly for a while, then trembled her eyelashes and withdrew her delicate, pale hand back under the covers.
Events involving parents were frequent throughout her life, but mostly irrelevant to her.
Whether it was parent’s meetings or graduation, no matter how good her grades, she was always alone.
But she was used to it, always trying to blend in like a ‘transparent student’ with a cool and detached expression, as if she needed no parental guidance.
Still, many parents would privately discuss this.
“Isn’t that Feng Nanshu? The top student of your school. Where are her parents? I’d love to see what kind of family nurtured such a girl.”
Feng Nanshu would pretend not to hear such comments, narrowing her eyes with a cool and breezy look.
From a young age, her high coolness was a shield, saving her from many troubles.
Up on the bed, Gao Wenhui was listening to her mother’s nagging when she suddenly noticed the delicate face beside her.
“Nanshu, you’re awake?”
“Um…”
“Your breakfast is on the table.”
“Thanks, Wenhui.”
“It wasn’t me who bought it.”
“?”
Feng Nanshu sat up puzzled, looking down at the table set with soy milk, steamed buns, a dish of pickles and bright red chili oil: “Wenhui.”
Gao Wenhui raised her head: “Hmm?”
“My bachelor’s gown is missing.”
Feng Nanshu extended her hand, pointing toward a rod on the right side of the table where clothes hung.
The school distributed the gowns yesterday, and she had hung hers there, but now it was gone.
Just then, the room 503 door opened, Yuan Youqin entered with a bachelor’s gown, tapping her knee.
“Is Nanshu’s mom back?”
“She’s back. Let me tell you, their school’s supermarket doesn’t even sell a sewing needle, just all sorts of odd stuff.”
Wang Haini’s mom laughed: “Kids these days don’t do needlework. Not like in our time. I bet they don’t even know what a thimble is.”
Yuan Youqin smiled then sat down, opened her sewing kit, threaded a needle, and started sewing the gown’s shoulder piece.
She had come early in the morning while Feng Nanshu was still asleep, and the gown was hanging below.
Yuan Youqin sized it up, imagining Nanshu in it, but noticed the shoulder’s stitching was undone; she went down to the university supermarket to buy a sewing kit.
Sewing supplies really don’t sell much in school; the clerk scrambled a while before finding a set.
Yuan Youqin sat and sewed, finally using her teeth to snap the thread, then lifting the gown to inspect it.
Dawn’s light fell on the gown, adding a golden glow, making the fiery red flowers on the shoulder seem even more radiant.
Linchuan had gotten richer over the years, its funds seemingly unlimited, so gowns were no longer reused but lavishly handed out, and even custom-designed for a trimmed and beautiful fit.
As she watched, Yuan Youqin noticed a small, fair and rosy face peeking over, with sparkling eyes somewhat resembling a koala.
“Awake?”
“I thought I was seeing things.”
Yuan Youqin pinched her cheek: “I and your dad came last night, but didn’t let Jiang Qin tell you. We wanted to surprise you.”
Feng Nanshu pursed her lips: “Brother is a bad guy.”
“Come down for breakfast.”
“Auntie, where’s uncle?” Feng Nanshu climbed out of bed, asking softly.
Yuan Youqin hung up the gown, taking her by the hand: “Today, I’m Mom Nanshu, so you can’t call me auntie, call me mom.”
Hearing this, Gao Wenhui and Wang Haini instantly held their breath, looking somewhat nervous.
The other parents nearby couldn’t hide their surprise, exchanging bewildered looks.
“Say it for mom to hear.”
Feng Nanshu blushed, speaking out: “But Jiang Qin will spank me.”
Yuan Youqin instantly flared up: “If he dares, I told you to call, you can call.”
“Mom…”
Hearing Feng Nanshu softly utter the long-thought term, Yuan Youqin’s face bloomed like a radiant flower, pulling her into a hug while muttering ‘my precious daughter.’
Those experienced know some titles, once changed, are hard to revert.
“Ah, I’m dead!”
Gao Wenhui suddenly screamed, lying on the bed kicking her legs in the air, which got her mom slapping her: “It’s a good day for graduation, what nonsense are you spouting?”
Gao Wenhui leaned to her mom’s ear: “I’ll tell you a secret!”
“What is it?”
“That’s actually not Nanshu’s mom but her mother-in-law.”
“What?”
Gao Wenhui’s mom was also stunned, not expecting this twist.
She and Yuan Youqin had arrived around the same time that morning, introducing themselves—one as Wenhui’s mom, the other as Nanshu’s mom.
But she never guessed Yuan Youqin wasn’t Nanshu’s biological mother but her mother-in-law.
“Then where are Nanshu’s parents?”
“Nanshu’s mom passed away early; her dad remarried, but the stepmom wasn’t nice. Luckily, she has Jiang Qin. Nanshu has been living with Jiang’s family from a young age, and her mom dotes on her a lot.”
Upon hearing this, Gao Wenhui’s mom realized, then looked at her own daughter: “What about you?”
Gao Wenhui’s face fell: “I now need to focus on my grand career, love can wait.”
“What career? Selling milk tea?”
“The grand career of an academic!”
“?”
After breakfast, Yuan Youqin helped Feng Nanshu put on her gown, fastening the buttons, looking very content.
The little rich girl’s figure was truly magnificent, curvaceous even in the somewhat loose gown.
Paired with brown leather shoes, she shone brighter than even the summer sun.
Linchuan’s main graduation ceremony was held in the gym, but with too many graduates and visiting parents, it was hard to fit everyone, so an open-air venue was also set up on the sports field.
By now, Jiang Qin and Jiang Zhenghong had arrived.
Boss Jiang, though not as handsome as a billionaire, appeared quite dashing in his gown, accentuated by his towering and lean figure.
Zhang Boiqing had called him last night, earnestly inviting him to speak at the main venue, but Jiang Qin declined.
After years of pretense at school, he decided to take a break this time and experience the common student’s feelings.
Qin Jingqiu and Feng Shihua also arrived, having flown in on the morning flight and driven to school by Wei Lanlan after receiving a call from Jiang Qin.
Accompanying them was Lu Xuemei, camera in hand.
Her greatest passion was capturing the boss’s wife in photos; she wouldn’t miss this for the world.
“Where’s Nanshu?”
“My mom went to the dorm early to pick her up, she should be here soon.”
Jiang Qin and Qin Jingqiu exchanged words, while Feng Shihua shook hands with Jiang Zhenghong.
It was their first meeting, but they quickly became acquainted thanks to their “in-law” status.
At that moment, Yuan Youqin and Feng Nanshu appeared on the field.
Feng Nanshu, in her gown, was tall and stunning, instantly drawing many eyes.
Jiang and his group turned to look, each feeling a sense of pride over ‘our girl growing up.’
“Nanshu, congratulations on graduating.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
Feng Nanshu and her aunt hugged, then she clung to Jiang Qin’s side.
By now, the finance department had mostly gathered on the field, everyone clustering in groups of four or five for photos.
Young master Cao stood behind in his gown, looking somewhat like a child in adult clothes.
Just then, a black stretch Lincoln slowly approached the entrance of the field, instantly capturing the attention of many nearby.
“Damn, is that my dad?”
“It really is, my real dad!”
Young master Cao screamed and ran to greet his father’s arrival.
Seeing this, the finance class three students widened their eyes: “Cao Guangyu’s dad drives that? Damn, he’s serious?”
“Dad, why did you bring the car?”
Mr. Cao, dressed in a suit, stepped out of the car: “President Jiang called me last night about a business meeting today, told me to put on as big a show as possible.”
