Chapter Index

Jiang Qin’s singing voice echoed through the cafeteria.

Su Nai felt the urge to stick her head into her lunch tray.

My god there are thousands of people in this cafeteria and you’re clapping and singing at me what’s the difference between this and taking a dump on the street aside from the clean floor? At least the boss of Jiangnan Leather Factory knew to leave his wallet behind for wages before running off but you’re using singing to pay for funding!

“Boss can we stop the singing? I’m starting to feel embarrassed…”

Jiang Qin stopped singing, “Did you feel the power I bestowed upon you?”

“I only felt death, social death.” Su Nai didn’t even dare lift her head.

“Still so young, caring so much about face. Little do you know face is the most worthless thing.”

A hint of resentment flashed in Su Nai’s eyes, “Boss, you’re always so generous approving funds for Dong Wenhao, giving 200 when he asks for 150, why are you so stingy with me?”

Jiang Qin took out his wallet, pulled out all the cash totaling 527.8 yuan, and slapped it on the table, “Same thing I said before, project is just starting, short on funds, use my living expenses for now.”

“Huh? Living expenses? That’s not appropriate.”

Jiang Qin let out an exaggerated sigh, “I know the logic of the boss moving his lips while employees run their legs off. Make do for now, hard times won’t last long, common prosperity is just around the corner.”

Su Nai suddenly felt the 500 some yuan in her hands was as heavy as Mount Tai, “I understand boss, I’ll try to spend every cent where it counts.”

“Mm, eat well, I’m going back for a nap. Give me a call when the team is recruited.”

Jiang Qin patted his butt, turned and left the cafeteria, forgetting he hadn’t even eaten lunch himself.

Su Nai watched his back, feeling somewhat moved. The boss must have it rough too. Already a senior but still wearing the same military training clothes from freshman year.

    “Su Nai!”

Just as she was thinking, Jiang Qin came running back in from outside, “It’s too hot, give me 50 cents to buy a popsicle.”

“Oh um…” Su Nai tearfully took out a 5 yuan bill and handed it to him, “So pitiful, get an expensive one.”

    “Thank you, good person.”

Jiang Qin held the 5 yuan, left the cafeteria, went to the supermarket to buy a small pudding, and ate it while furrowing his brows at the rockery across the way.

Asked for 50 cents but handed a 5 just like that…

The thing he was worried about did happen after all. This girl was a bit too agreeable.

Setting limits on employee funding requests wasn’t to make things difficult, but to make those with the right to request funds value that right.

A generous boss is a good person, but as the business starts up, the practice of giving money whenever asked will definitely attract a bunch of parasites. Have to strike the right balance.

Su Nai is undoubtedly a great employee, but she’s different from Dong Wenhao. Dong Wenhao understands taking a cut, controlling spending, stretching one portion of money into two. So Jiang Qin is very generous when allocating him funds.

But Su Nai isn’t like that.

Su Nai has very professional technical skills, but knows nothing about management.

The people she recruits may be as professional as her, but won’t necessarily be as hardworking and dedicated. Some might even try to make a quick buck and run. She can’t tell the difference. After the team is formed, what if someone with ulterior motives takes advantage?

You act a bit cute and pitiful in front of her, ask for 50 cents and she gives you 5 yuan.

    How can that work?

Jiang Qin doesn’t understand the technical side, doesn’t know if the money should be given or not. In the end he still has to listen to Su Nai. So he must make Su Nai learn to control and judge from her subconscious.

In his past life, Jiang Qin saw too many people fail transitioning from technical to management roles. Some ended up unemployed, some changed careers, all because they couldn’t handle this issue well.

Su Nai is a female programmer. If she can’t learn to be a manager, can’t learn to balance the relationship between her subordinates and the boss, her career will be very short. The only ending is getting married and having kids.

Dong Wenhao is currently part of the Literature Club. Blatantly poaching isn’t good. But Su Nai is already his employee now. So certain things need to be put in place early, giving her some pressure to grow.

“Our boss is very generous, just focus on your work, I’ll help you apply for funds!” ×

“Our boss is stingy, is your funding request reasonable? Give me a reason, I don’t want to hear him sing to me!” √

“Our boss is very generous, feel free to run with this idea.” ×

“Our boss is stingy, will this be effective when done? Write me a report, I don’t want to hear him cry poor.” √

But this can’t be rushed, let Su Nai slowly get used to it. This ragtag team was just formed, no need to make Su Nai handle everything independently so quickly.

Jiang Qin finished the pudding, threw the stick in the trash, returned to the dorm to take a nap. But as soon as his head hit the pillow, he got a call from Pang Hai.

“Boss, the second batch of advertising fans arrived, currently handed over to the Part-time Club. Should we continue ground promotion?”

Jiang Qin thought for a bit, “No rush, finish handing out the flyers before giving out the fans.”

“Okay. Also, Wenhao is next to me, he has something to discuss with you.”

Then Dong Wenhao’s voice came on the line, “Boss, there’s an issue with the Literature Club, can you come over?”

“East Campus? No no, I’m never going to East Campus again.” Jiang Qin felt goosebumps just thinking of Chu Siqi.

“The situation this time is a bit severe. Yao Yanling wants to hold a meeting in the activity room of A Teaching Building. I heard she might cancel the cooperation between Literature Club and our site.”

Jiang Qin was dumbfounded, “So suddenly? Why?”

Dong Wenhao pondered for a while, not knowing what to say, “Actually I don’t fully understand the reason either. Boss, come see for yourself.”

“See? Is the Literature Club holding a ceremony to cancel cooperation with me?”

“No, the senior is gathering all members for a meeting. I expect she’ll formally announce canceling cooperation at the meeting.”

    “Got it, wait for me.”

Jiang Qin hung up, went next door to borrow a bike from Zuo Baiqiang, then rode all the way to East Campus.

When he arrived at the front plaza, Dong Wenhao was already waiting under the blazing sun. He waved at Jiang Qin, smiling but clearly a bit flustered.

    “What’s the situation?”

Dong Wenhao sighed, “Recently a few people with very high article pass rates suddenly stopped writing. I urged them several times but they kept brushing me off with various excuses. I started to feel something was off so I privately asked around and found out Senior Yanling had talked to them.”

After hearing this, Jiang Qin found it a bit unbelievable, “They stopped freelancing just because she said so? Your Literature Club members are too obedient.”

“The Literature Club and Debate Club are organizing a city-level debate competition recently. Senior Yanling is one of the judges for the preliminary round.”

    “Oh, for credits and scholarships?”

“The senior didn’t say directly, but that’s probably what she meant.”

    “…”

Everyone post pictures in the comments section, I’ll pick a suitable one to change to!
