Chapter Index

The next evening, the non-relationship-seeking Jiang Qin went for a stroll around New Town District and checked out the four apartments he had been allocated.

Although these apartments had undergone simple decoration, they were currently all vacant. Since the infrastructure in New Town District was still under construction, there weren’t many residents nearby, so finding tenants wasn’t an easy matter.

Jiang Qin was in no hurry. He casually listed them with a real estate agency, thinking if they rented out, great, if not, so be it. It’s not like he needed that bit of rental income anyway.

But to his surprise, not long after the rental information was posted, the agency called him.

Jiang Qin was eating noodles nearby at the time. After receiving the call, he wiped his mouth and sauntered over with the keys.

    “Male god?”

The corner of Jiang Qin’s mouth twitched as he saw Chu Siqi’s other bestie, Yu Shasha. “What a coincidence.”

“I kept asking you out for meals but you never show up. Infuriating.” Despite saying she was infuriated, Yu Shasha’s tone was very whiny.

“Less whining, more business. 500 a month.”

After speaking, Jiang Qin sized up the boy beside Yu Shasha. “Out apartment hunting with your boyfriend to cohabitate?”

“No way, he’s just an ordinary friend. His name is Lu Chao. He’s accompanying me to find an apartment for my younger sister. She got into a middle school nearby.” With one sentence, Yu Shasha thoroughly distanced herself from the boy behind her.

Jiang Qin gave her a mental thumbs up. No wonder she was Chu Siqi’s bestie. “Take a look around first. If it works, sign the contract. If not, I’m outta here.”

“Sure, of course it works. You’re the landlord, how could I not want it? But how come you have an apartment here?” Yu Shasha was full of curiosity.

    “It’s a secret.”

Yu Shasha’s eyes sparkled with little stars, making Lu Chao feel very uncomfortable. “Shasha, who is this guy?”

“My male god, duh. Didn’t I tell you already?” Yu Shasha gave him a look, then went inside to check out the apartment.

“There’s no furniture at all. How can anyone live here?”

“I’ll rent it even without furniture. You, pipe down.”

Jiang Qin silently followed as they chattered back and forth beside him, until they finished looking over every corner of the apartment and signed the contract.

After receiving the rent, Jiang Qin was about to leave when Yu Shasha stopped him again. “Male god, my girlfriends and I made plans to go to Neon Light Bar. Could you take us there?”

“Can’t you girls go by yourselves?”

“But we’re all just little girls. You have so much clout at the bar. If you take us there, it’ll ensure our safety too.”

After hearing this, Lu Chao was stunned for a moment. All little girls? Then what about me? What am I?!

Jiang Qin thought about it. Since it was on the way, there was no reason he couldn’t take them. “Your girlfriends don’t include anyone I don’t want to see, right?”

    “No, don’t worry.”

“You know who I’m talking about?”

“Chu Siqi, of course I know. Huiru already told me everything.”

Jiang Qin nodded, then took the two to Neon Light Bar. Yu Shasha’s girlfriends were already waiting at the entrance, each dressed flirtatiously in miniskirts and crop tops, all talented at saving fabric for the country.

“Let me introduce everyone. This is my male god, Jiang Qin.”

Yu Shasha introduced him excitedly, causing her girlfriends to give Jiang Qin an extra look-over. It also made the boy named Lu Chao grind his back molars.

Then the group followed behind Jiang Qin and entered Neon Light Bar located across from the fire station.

Although Jiang Qin was no longer working here as a marketing supervisor, thanks to the Olympic viewing event, this bar had made a killing. The boss was very grateful to him and even the bartenders and servers treated him with great respect.

    “Jiang-ge, you’re here?”

    “Jiang-ge, long time no see.”

Jiang Qin nodded at them, eliciting whines of envy from Yu Shasha while her girlfriends also had starry-eyed looks.

    So much swagger, so handsome.

They were all seventeen or eighteen after all. They could tell whether the bartenders’ respectful gazes were genuine or just for show. No wonder he was called a male god.

Seeing this scene, Jiang Qin couldn’t help but want to laugh.

These days, hip young men who frequented bars were in high demand. No use denying it. He just wondered if their parents would still be able to laugh if they saw this.

Old Deng, is my Vespa parked safely downstairs?

Jiang Qin was cackling inside but still reminded the bartender that these people were his friends and to take good care of them, not let them start trouble or be troubled by others.

After getting them a booth, Jiang Qin was about to leave when Yu Shasha refused to let him go, saying it had been so long and she wanted to chat.

Jiang Qin could tell what she wanted to talk about from her expression. “Forget chatting about Chu Siqi. I’m not interested.”

“Oh, I remember now. You’re the idi-…big idiot who confessed to Chu Siqi, got rejected, then humiliatingly demanded your love letter back!” A flash of realization hit Lu Chao and his eyes instantly widened.

Jiang Qin’s face darkened. “You’d better hope ‘big idiot’ is what you really meant to say.”

“No no, it was a slip of the tongue.”

“My glorious past is that famous?”

“Well, our two classes are close by. I’m in the class right next to yours. Lu Chao, the one who’s awesome at CF!”

Yu Shasha turned to look at Lu Chao. “You’re a guy, why are you also into gossip?”

“It’s mainly because his story is too well-known. Who in our senior year doesn’t know about such an explosive move?”

Lu Chao looked very smug as he spoke with animated gestures. When Yu Shasha called Jiang Qin her male god, he felt uncomfortable. But seeing how respectfully the bartenders treated Jiang Qin, he didn’t dare say much more, thinking this guy must be doing pretty well for himself.

But who would’ve thought he used to be a pathetic loser? And the kind of loser who’d even demand his love letter back? Too explosive.

Lu Chao felt like he had shattered a male god’s halo with one punch. His whole body was filled with strength. He truly hated the lack of tools to take his hatred out on the world. If only he had more.

Jiang Qin had a grin on his face but mentally cursed. He thought people’s joys and sorrows were fucking different. Will this incident never be let go?

Finally on break and still getting spat on over this bullcrap.

“No more chatting, dammit. I’m out!”

Jiang Qin cursed, thinking maybe he should move or something.

Yu Shasha couldn’t help glancing at Lu Chao. “Can’t you just not talk? You pissed off my male god and made him leave!”

“I only spoke the truth. By the way, why do you idolize a guy like that?” Lu Chao couldn’t understand at all.

“What’s wrong with Jiang Qin being my male god? Is it embarrassing? Even Feng Nanshu in your class simps for him every day!”

    “?????”

Lu Chao froze for a moment, not reacting to who Feng Nanshu was.

This wasn’t because Feng Nanshu had low presence, but rather because she was too dazzling. People didn’t dare think about her. South City High’s heavenly fairy, the ethereal dream girl who had captivated countless youths – how could she be associated with simping at all?

“Which Feng Nanshu are you talking about?” Lu Chao was a bit dazed.

Yu Shasha scoffed. “What other Feng Nanshu is there? Is there another one at South City High?”

“Impossible. You’re lying. Feng Nanshu is so aloof and remote. She simps?”

“If you don’t believe me, take out your phone and check Feng Nanshu’s Qzone!”

Lu Chao was a student in Class 1 and in the same class group as Feng Nanshu. Moreover, Feng Nanshu’s Qzone was never locked, so it was easy to click into.

But he remembered Feng Nanshu’s Qzone never had anything posted.

Lu Chao scrolled down with a disbelieving gaze, but his eyes instantly froze.

He indeed hadn’t remembered wrong. Throughout high school, Feng Nanshu’s Qzone was always empty. But starting this summer, she began posting every single day as if using it as a direct diary.

“Made a good friend named Jiang Qin.”

“Jiang Qin took me on the swings.”

“Jiang Qin took me to the hot springs.”

“Jiang Qin said just keep smiling.”

“Jiang Qin said he’ll take me along for everything from now on. Happy.”

    “…”

“Jiang Qin said he can be with me forever.”

“Jiang Qin, Jiang Qin, Jiang Qin, Jiang Qin!”

A girl’s nearly blank Qzone suddenly filling up with a single name starting one day already spoke volumes about the situation.

Lu Chao was sweating just looking at it. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.

That damn dog, demanding back a love letter he sent to Chu Siqi on one hand while getting all lovey-dovey with ice queen Feng Nanshu on the other. How abstractly does this guy live? Which one is the real him?

“Her Qzone must’ve been hacked, right?” Lu Chao still couldn’t believe it.

Yu Shasha’s eyes sparkled. “Then let me tell you, Jiang Qin made 300,000 yuan in one summer. Even this bar is under his management. Sir, how do you respond to that?”

    “…”

Lu Chao swallowed. “I’m going to wash my face.”

Yu Shasha snorted and turned to the nearest bartender. “Hello, I’m Jiang Qin’s sister. Could you send over a fruit platter?”

    “Sure, one moment please.”
