Chapter 168: Controlling the Unforeseen
by xennovelChapter 168: Controlling the Unforeseen
Night – Villa Main Hall.
“Wang, hey,”
Mu Qingwu, ever so considerate and respectful to Xiao Yu, personally served Wang Dong a cup of tea with a smile. “Have some tea.”
“Thank you!” Wang Dong quickly stood up and accepted the cup with both hands.
After all, this guy has a net worth of billions. How many such people are there in the country?
He only showed courtesy because of Xiao Yu. Without such respect, who are you to him?
“No need to be so formal.”
Exuding elegance, Mu Qingwu sat beside her younger brother.
“What about mine?” Xiao Yu complained, clearly dissatisfied.
“Aren’t you the one who never drinks tea?”
Mu Qingwu pouted slightly, well aware that her brother was stirring up trouble.
“I want some too,” Xiao Yu insisted with twinkling eyes directed at his sister.
With an affectionate glare at her mischievous brother, Mu Qingwu stood up.
“I really feel like hitting you.”
Seeing Mu Qingwu leave, Wang Dong, nursing a toothache, looked at his little bro in confusion. “Shouldn’t a wife be cherished and spoiled like this?”
“Marriage is about equality.”
Xiao Yu chuckled and shook his head. “If one side dominates, life won’t be easy later on.”
“Are you trying to fool me?” Wang Dong rolled his eyes.
You, a newlywed rookie, actually think you can pull one over on someone with experience like me?
“That’s what my dad said.”
Xiao Yu shrugged. “My mom is pretty strong-willed, but after so many years with my dad, they hardly ever fight. They live in perfect harmony. You should learn a thing or two from them.”
After a moment’s thought, Wang Dong nodded in agreement, not entirely unconvinced.
Mu Qingwu returned – not with tea, but with a freshly squeezed glass of juice for Xiao Yu.
After sitting together for a while, she quietly excused herself.
Mu Qingwu knew some things were best left unheard…
Wang Dong glanced from the juice in front of Xiao Yu to the tea before him, then blinked. “Weren’t you the one who said you wanted tea?”
“Are you out of your mind?”
Xiao Yu laughed. “Drinking tea in the middle of the night? It’s as if you dislike a good night’s sleep. My sister wouldn’t even dare serve me tea.”
Damn… Wang Dong almost lost it.
“This case isn’t easy to handle…”
Xiao Yu’s expression turned serious as he picked up his tablet. “It really isn’t!”
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have brought Wang Dong home with him.
The two returned to studying the case together.
Wang Dong’s expression grew even more pensive.
“Do me a favor and get me a gun permit.”
Xiao Yu casually replied while still glancing at his tablet, “The special kind – the one that lets you carry a gun daily. Otherwise, you’ll have to find someone else for this job.”
And why so?
Because even in a previous life, Xiao Yu would have hesitated to take on this case.
One misstep and someone could easily be sacrificed. The danger is just too high.
Without a gun by his side, Xiao Yu simply couldn’t risk it.
So, why a special gun permit?
Regular police gun permits can only be issued when on a mission in this area.
Are you saying you can wear it casually all day?
What a load of rubbish!
“No problem,”
Wang Dong nodded without hesitation.
“Uh, you trust me that much?” Xiao Yu asked in disbelief.
“If someone else gets a gun, I can’t guarantee no trouble will occur.”
Wang Dong flashed a smile as he looked at Xiao Yu. “But rest assured – when it’s not absolutely necessary, you won’t even touch that thing!”
Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes, staring at Wang Dong.
“Enough already.”
Wang Dong shook his head with a smile. “It’s not that I know you so well; it’s just that Big Boss thinks highly of you.”
“Huh?”
Xiao Yu was taken aback. “Big Boss has commented on me? Wang, you aren’t trying to pull my leg, are you?”
“Not at all.”
Dropping his smile, Wang Dong’s face turned serious. “Big Boss said you… are a good kid!”
Xiao Yu: ……
Something about that didn’t sit right with him.
“Big Boss has an eye for people,”
Wang Dong said earnestly, “Don’t let his trust down!”
For no apparent reason, Xiao Yu felt a weight on his shoulders as he furrowed his brow.
Are these people all insane?
Why add extra burdens when life is already hard?
Wang Dong picked up his phone and made a call. After hanging up, he looked at Xiao Yu and said, “The gun permit and firearm will be delivered tomorrow. As for bullets, you know the deal – none extra. Even for us, there’s no extra.”
Xiao Yu nodded, fully aware of the risks.
Having a gun is one thing, but too many bullets would only cause bigger problems.
“There’s something off with the case,”
Xiao Yu said, eyeing his tablet. “Too many accidents and they stop being mere coincidences – we all know that.”
“That’s right,” Wang Dong agreed with a nod.
“But still…”
Xiao Yu looked up, meeting Wang Dong’s eyes. “Have you ever considered how terrifying it would be if someone could control accidents?”
“Control… accidents?”
Wang Dong’s face instantly darkened.
Every day, every hour, every minute, even every second, people run into mishaps, witness disasters, or even experience them firsthand.
But who, if anyone, can control accidents?
It’s impossible!
No one can control them.
If someone truly could control accidents… that would be utterly terrifying.
Because it’s simply beyond what any normal person is capable of.
It borders on the supernatural!
“Don’t tell me you believe someone actually possesses… some kind of supernatural power?”
Wang Dong looked at Xiao Yu with a mix of emotions. “This isn’t a movie or a novel!”
“Ha ha!”
Xiao Yu laughed. “What happened to you, Wang? Even your sleep talk is cautious now?”
Wang Dong: ???
What’s that supposed to mean?
“It can’t possibly be about supernatural powers or magic,”
Xiao Yu shook his head and grinned. “It’s about someone being so smart that they can plan every little detail!”
“Huh?”
Wang Dong couldn’t quite catch his little brother’s drift.
“It’s all in the brain,”
Xiao Yu pointed to his head. “Do you know why humans originally invented computers?”
“Uh!” Wang Dong was completely baffled.
What? Suddenly launching into philosophy?
Are you about to ask me how the Earth came to be?
“Computers – computing… the name says it all.”
Xiao Yu shook his head. “They were initially invented to replace the human brain, bypassing tedious processes so that people could use them to calculate data that was otherwise too hard to figure out. In other words, to compute things—both comprehensible and otherwise. For instance, consider how a murderer creates what seems like a random accident. A computer can simulate that very accident, yet humans would struggle to do so, right?”
“Yes,” Wang Dong nodded.
“But now, we have a problem.”
With a serious look, Xiao Yu continued, “There’s someone whose mind works like a computer – executing complex calculations to simulate accidents, and even engineering scenarios based on those calculations!”
