Chapter 180: Mishaps in the School Warehouse
by xennovelWith a few minutes left before class, Lin Zheng Ran and Jiang Qian returned to the classroom together from the piano room.
As they climbed the stairs, they unexpectedly ran into Han Wenwen and Heqing heading back from the restroom.
The two best friends held hands and casually glanced down at Lin Zheng Ran and Jiang Qian walking side by side on the stairs.
Jiang Qian and Lin Zheng Ran looked up at the little fox and little Heqing.
Their eyes met, and all four froze for a moment.
“Lin Zheng Ran, you’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?” Han Wenwen said with a mysterious smile, her eyes narrowing.
The class bell rang.
The afternoon PE class was scheduled for the third and fourth periods.
Before PE started, the PE teacher came to the classroom and announced that these two periods would involve a mock physical fitness test.
The teacher asked the PE committee member to count the students and select a few boys and girls to go to the sports warehouse for equipment.
As class monitor, Lin Zheng Ran led a group of boys; since Jiang Qian was busy counting, Fang Meng took charge of the girls to get the items.
The two groups headed to the large warehouse behind the playground and found the sports equipment needed for the test.
While moving things, Fang Meng walked over to Lin Zheng Ran. “Where did you go at noon? I saw you coming back with Qian Qian.”
Seeing Fang Meng’s question, Lin Zheng Ran replied, “She just wanted to chat.”
“Chat about what?”
“All sorts of things, but mostly about sex education.”
“Huh? Did I hear that right? What kind of knowledge?” Fang Meng asked, her eyes widening in surprise.
Lin Zheng Ran directed the others to grab more items.
He added casually, “It doesn’t matter. Basically, if you two talk it out this afternoon, it’ll be settled.”
“Oh, now I get what you were discussing.”
As Lin Zheng Ran started to walk away, she grabbed his clothes. “After today, Qian Qian and I won’t fall out, right?”
Lin Zheng Ran turned back to Fang Meng and said matter-of-factly, “Of course not.”
Fang Meng smiled, her worries easing considerably.
Once they set up the sports equipment on the playground, they noticed that Heqing’s class hadn’t shown up.
Lin Zheng Ran figured their PE teacher might be sick, or another teacher had taken the slot, or they still had unfinished lessons.
After all, the PE teacher for all senior year classes was the same person.
Right then, the PE teacher was up front explaining the key points of the senior year physical test, noting that while it wouldn’t affect college entrance exams or admissions…
…they still needed to take it seriously.
Because some very special schools would check the scores, and failing could impact high school graduation certificates.
“Alright, let’s have Lin Zheng Ran and Jiang Qian demonstrate—our class monitor and deputy monitor can set the example,” the PE teacher said, but seeing Jiang Qian recording notes, added, “Never mind, she’s busy. So, Lin Zheng Ran and Fang Meng can do it instead.”
Lin Zheng Ran and Fang Meng stepped out from the group.
“They’ll go through all the events, and I’ll explain the key points along the way,” the PE teacher said. “Pay attention, and if you don’t get it after watching, ask me. It’s all straightforward.”
In the simple demonstration, both Lin Zheng Ran and Fang Meng performed well, with proper form.
“Great job, everyone! Especially Lin Zheng Ran—our monitor is top-notch in grades and fitness,” the PE teacher clapped. “Alright, let’s all give it a try now.”
As the teacher adjusted a testing device, he suddenly found a small part was broken.
After tinkering for a while without fixing it, he turned to Fang Meng. “Fang Meng, go to the warehouse and grab the spare part for this tester. It should be in the corner.”
“Okay, teacher,” Fang Meng nodded.
She ran toward the distant sports warehouse, which was packed with all sorts of equipment.
Stepping inside, she faced a jumble of large and small gear and mats, making it feel extra crowded.
Fang Meng headed to the corner and searched for the spare part, spotting several in a big box; she bent down and rummaged through for the one the teacher mentioned.
But as soon as she grabbed it and stood up, she heard a sharp rip.
Her shirt had been torn by the box’s sharp edge.
The hole was big, ripping diagonally from the bottom up past her navel.
Fang Meng stared at her shirt in panic, thinking, what on earth?
“My clothes!”
She tried to set the part down to check, but as she turned, the edge caught her pants too, tearing a hole on the right side and exposing her thigh; she quickly covered the exposed leg and underwear edge in shock.
“What the heck?”
Bending to cover herself, she accidentally bumped a cabinet, making the unsteady items and mats on top wobble.
Fang Meng heard things sliding from the cabinet and glanced back.
Her eyes widened as everything on top came crashing down.
She fell to the ground amid a series of continuous rips in her clothes.
Out on the playground, the PE teacher, with Fang Meng still not back, kept fiddling with the device and surprisingly fixed it.
“Fixed it! No need for the spare part,” he exclaimed.
He told everyone to continue, but Lin Zheng Ran glanced toward the sports warehouse, wondering why Fang Meng hadn’t returned yet.
Taking so long for one part?
Since Lin Zheng Ran had finished his demo, he suggested, “Teacher, since we don’t need the part, I’ll go tell Fang Meng she can come back empty-handed.”
“Sure, go ahead,” the teacher agreed. “She’s taking forever though—what’s the holdup?”
Lin Zheng Ran headed to the sports warehouse to check.
At first, he didn’t see anyone from afar, but as he stepped inside…
…a stern voice warned, “Who’s there? Stay out!”
The voice was full of caution, almost aggressive, but Lin Zheng Ran recognized it as Fang Meng’s.
The moment fierce-sounding Fang Meng heard it was him, her tone softened instantly.
The tension eased, like she’d spotted her savior:
“Lin Zheng Ran? Is that you? Don’t come over yet! First, help me shut the warehouse door. My clothes… they’re torn…”
Though confused, Lin Zheng Ran closed the door for now.
“Door’s shut. Where’s your clothes torn?”
“Everywhere.”
“Huh?”
Lin Zheng Ran walked over and saw Fang Meng in the corner, squatting with a wooden board blocking her body, only half her face visible.
The area around her was a mess, with various items scattered on the floor.
Fang Meng’s face flushed as she said, “Why did you come? I told you it’s all torn!”
Because Lin Zheng Ran was tall and had keen eyesight, even with the board and dim light, he could vaguely see a large tear in her pants.
The edge of her pink underwear and bra were clearly visible.
Lin Zheng Ran asked, puzzled, “How did you manage this? Your clothes are ripped to shreds—I can even see your underwear.”
Fang Meng threw a small mat at him in embarrassment, which he caught easily.
“You can see that?!” she exclaimed, baffled.
“I have no idea how it happened. I just came for the part, and my shirt got hooked on the box. Then my pants tore when I turned, and stuff fell from the cabinet when I fell—now the tears are even bigger. Squatting hides it, but standing up exposes everything.”
“I don’t know! Just keep watch for me. If anyone sees me like this, I’ll be mortified today.”
Lin Zheng Ran found it absurd. “Really? That’s wild. How unlucky can you get?”
“Help me watch out. If anyone catches me like this, I’ll die of shame.”
“I’ve already seen.”
Fang Meng blurted out shyly, “You seeing is fine—it’s others who can’t.”
“I can’t stand here forever watching. Should I get someone to fetch clothes from the girls’ dorm?”
She asked, “I don’t live in the dorm—where would clothes come from?”
Lin Zheng Ran remembered. “True, you’re a day student like Jiang Qian. Don’t you have a driver? Get him to bring some.”
“I quit that job. I’m not with the Jiang family anymore.”
“Then have Jiang Qian ask the driver to send some.”
Fang Meng figured that was the only option.
She said, “My phone’s dead. Lend me yours so I can tell Qian Qian.”
Lin Zheng Ran chuckled, “Phone dead too? That’s just your luck.” As he reached for his phone…
…a sudden squeak came from the corner—a mouse was scampering toward her.
Fang Meng panicked, dropped the board, and dashed to Lin Zheng Ran, grabbing his arm and burying her face in his clothes. “Ah! There’s a mouse here!”
