Chapter 234: Whispers of Healing
by xennovelLin Zheng Ran locked the hospital room door and turned to Jiang Jingshi, who was much calmer now.
Though her eyes were still red from crying too long, her face showed clear signs of happiness.
“What did you mean earlier when you said what I should do? Can we treat it right here?”
Lin Zheng Ran went to her side, pulled a small box from his pocket, and opened it to reveal a jet-black pill inside.
The pill was about the size of a finger segment.
Lin Zheng Ran handed it to Jiang Jingshi: “Take this first.”
Without hesitation, Jiang Jingshi took it with both hands and remarked, “What a big pill. Can I chew it?”
“You can, but it should go down easily without chewing.”
Jiang Jingshi popped it into her mouth, expecting it to be bitter, but it dissolved instantly before she could even taste it.
The pill felt like cotton candy, melting smoothly and slipping down her throat in a flash.
Jiang Jingshi marveled.
“What a strange medicine. What’s next?”
Lin Zheng Ran asked, “Did you swallow it?”
“Yes, it melted the moment it hit my tongue and went right down.”
“Lie back on the bed, close your eyes, and relax.”
Jiang Jingshi nodded, lay down obediently on the hospital bed, pulled the covers up, took a deep breath to steady herself, and shut her eyes.
She had no idea how Lin Zheng Ran would treat her, but she’d do whatever he said.
Yet, all she felt was his hand on her pulse, nothing more.
After about ten minutes, she couldn’t help asking with her eyes still closed, “Aren’t you starting yet?”
Lin Zheng Ran gazed at her lovely face: “The treatment’s already done. Now we wait for the reaction.”
“Huh?”
Jiang Jingshi opened her eyes in disbelief but quickly remembered his words and closed them again.
“It’s over already? I only took one pill.”
“Isn’t that normal for an illness—take medicine? This special pill is the result of my week’s research. Don’t underestimate it; its effects will spread gradually through your body and might cause some reactions later.”
“I guess so, but it’s way simpler than I imagined…”
Lin Zheng Ran checked Jiang Jingshi’s pulse, feeling the medicine’s effects slowly diffusing through her, heading toward the affected area.
Hereditary diseases earn their reputation as incurable because hidden flaws lurk in the body from the start, triggered by the slightest cause.
This pill, infused with heavenly spiritual energy, could restore the damaged area to its normal state and even alter the faulty genes.
Lin Zheng Ran closed his eyes, the spiritual energy reorganizing her cells like patching up a worn road.
Melting away the diseased parts.
He smiled and warned Jiang Jingshi, “After taking the pill, you might show signs of detoxification, like vomiting. If you feel it, head to the restroom right away.”
Jiang Jingshi murmured in agreement.
Lin Zheng Ran asked, “Do you feel anything now?”
With her eyes shut, she frowned, trying to describe it: “Sort of, but I can’t pin it down. It’s like eating an expired mint candy in my mind.”
Lin Zheng Ran wondered about that description.
“Have you actually eaten expired mint candy?”
Jiang Jingshi smiled: “No, I haven’t. It’s just a feeling. I don’t like snacks much—they make you gain weight and look bad.”
Lin Zheng Ran sighed: “You’re already beautiful enough. Just lie there for now. Go to the restroom if you feel like vomiting.” He pulled his hand back from her pulse.
Jiang Jingshi, eyes still closed, felt him move away and instinctively grabbed his hand, asking softly, “Where are you going?”
“Nowhere, I’m right here watching you.” He replied.
Jiang Jingshi relaxed and nodded.
Lin Zheng Ran looked down at her smooth, delicate hand.
Jiang Jingshi used to wear a silver artistic ring on her left index finger, and faint marks from it still lingered there.
But today, that ring had shifted to her middle finger.
For a woman, wearing a ring on the middle finger often means she’s in a stable relationship, her heart committed.
“Has your ring moved to a new finger, Jiang Jie?”
Lin Zheng Ran held her hand, and Jiang Jingshi’s face flushed as she stayed silent.
She simply gripped his hand in return and hummed softly.
She whispered, “You haven’t slept much this past week, have you?”
“Even if I said I did, you probably wouldn’t believe me. And with you sick, I had to focus on fixing it first—nothing else mattered.”
She clutched his hand tightly, feeling the warmth of his large palm enveloping hers.
Her heart overflowed: “I don’t know how to answer that, but you saved my life, so from now on, I’m yours, sister and all.”
She paused, blushing, though in my heart, I’ve been yours for a while.
In this world, you’re the only one I’d marry.
Throughout the afternoon, Jiang Jingshi felt no reactions, and it wasn’t until evening that they finally hit.
Suddenly, she started feeling nauseous repeatedly.
She hurried to the restroom, but nothing came up—just saliva with occasional black specks.
Each time, she’d rinse her mouth quickly, not wanting to disgust Lin Zheng Ran.
After each episode, Lin Zheng Ran would check her pulse to make sure all was well, then tell her to lie down again.
This went on countless times.
It wasn’t until around four or five in the morning that the nausea finally stopped.
The spiritual energy’s replacement and repair of her tissues was complete.
As the next day’s sun bathed the hospital room and Jiang Jingshi’s gentle, peaceful face,
She looked a bit tired from the sleepless night, but her complexion was no longer pale—it was healthier and rosier than before.
Her eyes sparkled with life.
And unusually, her stomach grumbled with hunger.
She felt embarrassed.
Lin Zheng Ran said, “I’ll grab some breakfast to fill you up.”
Jiang Jingshi held his hand and shook her head: “No need, you stay. This hospital delivers breakfast from their cafeteria.”
Lin Zheng Ran noted how different this private hospital was.
He called for the attending nurse to get the meals.
Two portions.
Soon, two bowls of millet porridge arrived along with some nutritious sides.
Despite her high status, Jiang Jingshi never fussed over food.
She sat up and shared the meal with Lin Zheng Ran at the bedside table.
The past few days, her illness and worries had killed her appetite, but this morning, Jiang Jingshi felt ravenous.
Though she ate slowly and deliberately, she finished a good amount.
“I feel so much lighter now. That medicine really works. Do I need another pill today?”
Lin Zheng Ran sipped his porridge: “No, one was enough. This morning, rest up, and this afternoon, have the hospital run some tests.”
“Tests? Like checking how the pill worked and adjusting treatment?”
“What more reactions? It’s all finished.”
She looked puzzled.
Lin Zheng Ran smiled at her; such miraculous medicine always seemed unbelievable, often needing multiple explanations.
It made sense though—a severe illness cured by one pill? No one would buy it at first.
So Lin Zheng Ran said directly, “You’ll see after the hospital tests this afternoon. Don’t worry about the rest.”
Jiang Jingshi noticed a bit of porridge stuck at the corner of Lin Zheng Ran’s mouth.
She wiped it away with a tissue and laughed: “Okay. Am I getting dumber, sis? Sometimes your words go right over my head, and I have to ask again.”
Lin Zheng Ran chuckled: “You’ll be back to normal once you’re fully healed.” Jiang Jingshi smiled softly, her lips curving gently.
Her eyes were full of the person in front of her.
