Chapter 239: An Unexpected Visit
by xennovelEver since that morning, Jiang Jingshi, along with Jiang Qian and Fang Meng, had faced their parents’ scolding in the villa and concluded the family meeting.
Jiang Jingshi returned to her bedroom, phone in hand, weighing her options—should she call him or go see him directly?
Calling would be quick and easy, letting her hear his voice right away, but once she dialed, Lin Zheng Ran would insist she stay home and rest after her illness—he’d say she shouldn’t move around. Then she’d have to listen, and she wouldn’t get to see him.
On the other hand, showing up unannounced—would that come off as too forward? Is it okay for a girl to just drop by a boy’s house?
Would it seem rude? But…
She was basically his girlfriend now, so visiting shouldn’t be a problem… and she really, really wanted to see him.
Even handling major company decisions had never made Jiang Jingshi this torn.
But she knew that hesitation only led to defeat, whether in business or in life.
In the end, she spotted a coin on her bedroom table and decided to let fate choose.
Heads for calling, tails for going in person—one flip to decide.
She tossed the coin gently—it landed heads.
Jiang Jingshi stared at the coin in her hand, her gentle eyes going blank as she muttered to herself, “That doesn’t count—let’s try again.”
Tails.
She smiled and quickly called out to Pan Lin to buy some things and pack up so they could head to Lin Zheng Ran’s place.
And that’s how this moment came about.
Inside the house, Lin Zheng Ran looked at Jiang Jingshi standing in the doorway, dressed in jeans and a pure white long-sleeve shirt, her posture elegant and gentle.
Now fully recovered, Jiang Jingshi’s face glowed with a healthy flush, her slightly wavy long hair making her even more captivating.
Behind her in the hallway stood Pan Lin and three or four men in suits, each carrying stacks of gifts.
Lin Zheng Ran asked, puzzled, “What brings you here?”
Jiang Jingshi hadn’t expected Lin Zheng Ran to answer the door herself—she thought it might be his aunt or uncle.
Surprised, she said, “Zheng Ran… I’m here for you.”
Pan Lin smiled and greeted, “Good morning, Mr. Lin.”
Lin Xiao Li, sitting on the sofa, stood up and called out, “Who is it, Ran Ran? Who’s here?”
But when she saw Jiang Jingshi at the door, Lin Xiao Li froze for a moment—she felt the girl looked familiar, but that thought quickly faded, replaced by awe at her beauty.
Jiang Jingshi had this mature, sisterly vibe about her.
She was so graceful and elegant that anyone would think, ‘Wow, she’s stunning.’
Though Jiang Jingshi had met countless clients and bosses, she felt nervous visiting Lin Zheng Ran’s home and didn’t know how to greet them—she just bowed slightly and said, “Hello, Aunt and Uncle, I’m—”
Lin Xiao Li widened her eyes and cut in, “Another one here for Ran Ran?”
“Another? Um, yes.”
Oh my goodness… every pretty girl who comes to their house is always here for Ran Ran. She hurried back and whispered to her husband, “Honey, honey! Come quick—big trouble! Another girl’s shown up at our place!”
Lin Ying Jun heard and got up, surprised. When he saw Jiang Jingshi, the couple marveled again.
How on earth did their son do it? From Heqing to Lily to Wen Wen to Xiao Meng and now this one—was every extraordinarily beautiful girl drawn to him?!
This was the fifth one! How would they sort this out later?!
Lin Zheng Ran, though, acted casual—he just hadn’t expected Jiang Jingshi to drop by.
Lin Ying Jun, still stunned, asked, “Are you Ran Ran’s friend?”
Jiang Jingshi replied quickly, “Yes, I’m Jiang—”
She’d never imagined she’d get so nervous here, with Lin Xiao Li and Lin Ying Jun staring at her, that she stumbled over her words.
Lin Zheng Ran picked up where she left off, “Jingshi. Her name’s Jiang Jingshi.”
Lin Ying Jun, Lin Xiao Li, and Jiang Jingshi all turned to look at Lin Zheng Ran.
Jiang Jingshi nodded shyly, “Yes, Jiang Jingshi.”
The couple exchanged glances, their eyes full of unspoken thoughts.
Lin Zheng Ran ignored his parents’ surprise—they always reacted like this, leaving guests standing in the doorway—so he said to Jiang Jingshi, “Come on in. Let’s chat in my room.”
She agreed, “Okay. Sorry to interrupt, Uncle and Aunt. It’s my first visit, so I brought some gifts for you both.”
She turned and signaled Pan Lin to set the gifts down.
Pan Lin politely added, “Nice to see you again, Uncle and Aunt,” and had the men in suits bring all the gifts inside.
Box after box of expensive items—there were forty or fifty in total.
Lin Ying Jun, still reeling from his son’s luck with women, stared at the wall of gifts and said, “So many gifts? That’s enough, really!”
Lin Zheng Ran, curious, asked, “Why did you bring so much?”
Jiang Jingshi wasn’t sure how much to bring on a first visit to her boyfriend’s house, so she’d had Pan Lin load up four full cars’ worth.
They’d left the rest in the residential area parking lot—this was just half of one car’s load.
Jiang Jingshi planned to gauge their reaction and decide when to stop, since too many might overwhelm, but too few was out of the question—after all, Lin Zheng Ran’s parents would be like her own someday. “Is it too much?”
Lin Zheng Ran eyed the new “half-wall” of gifts and said, “Of course it’s a lot. And it doesn’t look like you’ve finished unloading—how much more is there?”
Jiang Jingshi glanced at Pan Lin, signaling it was enough, and replied, “Just these.”
Lin Zheng Ran felt a bit overwhelmed.
From the way she’d looked at Pan Lin, he knew there was probably more.
Lin Zheng Ran told his parents, “Mom, Dad, we’re heading to my room. Don’t bother us unless it’s important.”
Lin Xiao Li, still confused, pointed at the pile, “But Ran Ran, this—”
Lin Zheng Ran had already led Jiang Jingshi to his room. Pan Lin stayed behind with the suited men, waiting downstairs.
With the bedroom door closed, the front door shut too.
Suddenly, everything fell quiet again.
Lin Xiao Li and Lin Ying Jun stared at their son’s bedroom door, piecing it together for a while before exchanging looks.
Lin Xiao Li said, “Husband, do you know what I’m thinking?”
Lin Ying Jun nodded, “I have a pretty good idea, but I bet you can’t put it into words.”
“You’re right, my head’s a mess of tangled thoughts. But as long as you get it, that’s fine. I just wonder… can Ran Ran handle all this? Is he getting a bit too flirtatious?”
Lin Ying Jun replied blankly, “Yeah, but saying that now might be too late…”
Together they said, “It’s late, but we need to talk to Ran Ran about this soon—otherwise, it could lead to serious problems down the line!”
Lin Xiao Li walked over to the pile of gifts, puzzled, “What does this girl do? She bought so much—how much did it cost? And these brands, I’ve never seen them before. Together, they must be at least ten thousand yuan.”
Lin Ying Jun spotted a few familiar brands. He picked up a box of dried fruits and frowned, “Ten thousand? This brand alone is over three thousand for one box—I saw it before.”
“Really? Where did you see it? I haven’t.” Lin Xiao Li asked, confused.
Lin Ying Jun said matter-of-factly, “Well, I’m a civil servant.”
Lin Xiao Li quickly covered his mouth, “Don’t say that!”
Lin Ying Jun sighed, “It’s fine—I’m just a low-level one, all above board. I didn’t see it myself; I just heard about the brand.”
Lin Xiao Li looked inside another box and exclaimed, “And Maotai?! Is this real?! What does this girl’s family even do?”
