Chapter Index

The car weaved through the city under a light rain.

Heqing, Han Wenwen, and Lily all marveled at how spacious the SUV’s interior was.

It felt like you could even lie down and use it as a bed.

It was completely different from those compact sedans they usually rode in.

The three women were originally in the back seat, but when Heqing spotted the empty passenger seat, she suddenly asked during the drive, “Lin Zheng Ran, how about I move to the passenger side? I can help you keep an eye on the road.”

Lin Zheng Ran kept driving through the city as he replied, “I don’t really need help with the road since you wouldn’t understand the lines anyway. But if you want to sit up front for fun, go ahead.”

Heqing explained softly, “I don’t know how to read them yet, but I can learn. I want to learn to drive too! Don’t worry, I won’t bother you. I’ll just sit in the passenger seat and study on my own.”

Lin Zheng Ran didn’t object. “Alright, I’ll pull over somewhere so you can switch.”

    “Great!”

The car pulled over at the roadside, and Heqing quickly got out of the back door and hopped into the passenger seat. She said sweetly, “All set!” Then the car started up again.

Han Wenwen and Lily exchanged glances.

They both felt that Heqing seemed more proactive and excited than usual today.

Once in the passenger seat, Heqing buckled her seatbelt and turned to watch Lin Zheng Ran drive.

She got this sense of a family outing from TV, like they were on a trip together.

Lin Zheng Ran was like the dad, she was the mom, and the two in the back were like little kids.

A wave of happiness washed over Heqing’s face as she settled in, smiling warmly with her mouth curved up.

Lin Zheng Ran asked, “You want to learn to drive?”

    Heqing answered right away:

“Yeah! A lot of classmates said that once you start university, you should learn to drive. Even if I don’t use the license much, what if you have to go to events and drink? I could drive to pick you up sometimes.”

Lin Zheng Ran gave her a curious look, seeing how innocent she was.

He thought to himself, what’s the driver for then?

“Really? That could come in handy.”

    She smiled. “Right?”

From the back, Han Wenwen said, “Then I’ll sign up for driving school with Heqing.”

Heqing turned back and replied, “Sounds good! What about you, Lily? Want to learn after university?”

Lily blinked. “I’m not really into driving. I think I have a bad sense for it—better not risk it on the roads. Besides, if Zheng Ran has events, he probably has a driver anyway?”

After she spoke, Heqing and Han Wenwen froze for a moment.

For some reason, Heqing’s desire to learn driving suddenly dropped off.

Heqing recovered quickly. “Oh yeah, Zheng Ran’s a big boss now—he’ll have a driver!”

At that, Han Wenwen asked curiously:

“Hey, Lin Zheng Ran, are you really the general manager of Zheng Shi Company? Last week, Lily told us about it, and we looked it up online. The company’s huge, and their registered capital is over a billion!”

Heqing chimed in, curious too. “Yeah, Lin Zheng Ran, is that true? Are you that wealthy now?”

Lin Zheng Ran glanced at them, puzzled. “You two didn’t know?”

Han Wenwen and Heqing shook their heads in unison. “We had no idea.”

Lin Zheng Ran said, “That’s odd. Lily should know, since you three are always together. I figured she’d told you.”

Lily chuckled from the back. “I thought Heqing and Han Wenwen knew. Turns out they didn’t have a clue.”

Lin Zheng Ran let out a breath. “Anyway, now you do. Yeah, I’m the general manager, but I’m more of a hands-off boss. Jiang Jingshi handles most of the company stuff—she’s the deputy manager and Jiang Qian’s sister.”

The mention of Jiang Jingshi made the three of them pause.

Though no one had brought it up lately,

they all knew that for the past week or so, if Lin Zheng Ran was dealing with company matters, he was probably spending time alone with Jiang Jingshi.

Han Wenwen’s fox-like eyes narrowed slightly.

Lily watched Lin Zheng Ran warily.

Even Heqing, who hadn’t met Jiang Jingshi much, thought of how stunning the sister was and Lin Zheng Ran’s flirtatious nature, so she didn’t let her guard down.

The car hit the highway, and after a few hours of driving,

the rain didn’t let up—in fact, it got heavier, and they’d left the city behind.

The three girls started with lively chats about everything, but after hours, the topics dried up, and things quieted down. The little fox and Lily pulled blankets from their bags and dozed off.

Heqing snacked while browsing driving tips on her phone, then yawned, ready for a rest.

She glanced back and saw Han Wenwen and Lily fast asleep.

Heqing, who was getting sleepy, stared at them blankly and realized that meant…

Only she and Lin Zheng Ran were still awake?!

The heavy rain outside perked her up. Heqing kept her eyes on Lin Zheng Ran and whispered softly, “Lin Zheng Ran? You’ve been driving for so long—are you tired? Maybe we should stop somewhere to rest.”

Lin Zheng Ran felt full of energy, unlike most people. “Not at all. If you’re tired, just nap. We’ve got a few more hours to go.”

Heqing noticed Lin Zheng Ran steering with one hand and resting the other on the gear shift.

That’s when she remembered some online jokes and suddenly pressed her legs together, shifting her hips.

She leaned her legs toward the left side.

A slight blush colored her face.

Lin Zheng Ran spotted Heqing’s move and asked with a laugh, “What are you doing?”

Heqing shook her head shyly. “Nothing. I just saw a video online once, and Han Wenwen told me that when a guy is driving and shifting gears, if a girl likes him, she should put her legs on the left side. That’s being good.”

Lin Zheng Ran thought to himself that the little fox had probably led this silly girl astray more times than he knew.

Though it was raining, it was summer, so Heqing wore a skirt.

As she leaned left, her smooth legs peeked out from under the hem, looking quite appealing.

Since she’d gone this far, Lin Zheng Ran figured he shouldn’t just sit there, so he casually placed his hand on her leg.

Heqing quickly covered her mouth—she hadn’t expected Lin Zheng Ran to actually touch her thigh.

Too embarrassed to make a sound, she didn’t want to wake the two in the back.

Her pure eyes sparkled as she gazed at him.

    Her body tensed up.

After touching her leg for a while, Lin Zheng Ran saw her reaction and smiled. “Do you have any gum or something?”

Heqing nodded shyly. “I do. It’s in my bag. Want some?”

She reached back, quietly grabbing her bag from the floor of the back seat.

    She slowly unzipped it.

She fished out a piece of gum, unwrapped it, and held it up to his mouth.

Lin Zheng Ran pulled his hand back. Heqing bit her lip as he said, “The AC in the car masks it, but it might get cold when we stop. Remember to put on a jacket before getting out. We probably won’t see much scenery today—just head up to the midway point and find an inn to stay at.”

    “Okay! Got it.”

She straightened up, watching the rain streak down the windshield and get wiped away by the wipers.

She rested her hands on her legs and smiled.

“Once we’re married, can we do trips like this sometimes? It feels so nice.”

“Of course. Once we get a car, I can take you all out whenever.”

Heqing saw Lin Zheng Ran chewing the gum and about to spit it out, so she offered her hand. “Just spit it in my hand. I’ll throw it away.”

Lin Zheng Ran asked, “No tissue?”

“I have some, but it’s fine on my hand. I’ve been snacking a lot anyway, so I need to wipe mine too. Go ahead, spit it out—chewing it too long gets gross.”

Lin Zheng Ran looked at this silly girl.

Heqing caught it as he spit it out, then happily tossed the gum into a trash bag and wiped her hand with a wet wipe.

After cleaning up, she opened a bag of chips and held the first one up to Lin Zheng Ran’s mouth.

She munched away, crunching on snacks as if the wipe hadn’t done much.
