Chapter 267: Mercenaries Enter the Country

“Wang, we’ve known each other a long time, haven’t we?”

Holding his phone, Xiao Yu spoke calmly.

    “Uh…”

Wang Dong hesitated, unsure how to start.

He noticed that the younger guy seemed truly angry.

“What have you been keeping from me?” Xiao Yu demanded.

    “Bro, this is huge.”

Wang Dong gave a bitter smile, “It’s so serious that even National Security has deployed Group Nine.”

Group Nine… Xiao Yu’s heart raced again.

What the hell could be so big?

He had heard Wang Dong mention National Security’s Group Nine before.

    The Hunting Unit!

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Xiao Yu asked in a deep tone, “Where are you now?”

    “…” Wang Dong fell silent.

    “Bincheng?” Xiao Yu inquired.

    Wang Dong still said nothing.

“It seems it’s very dangerous—you don’t want me getting involved because you fear for my safety?”

Rubbing his temples, Xiao Yu’s mind raced, “If you’re so uncertain that even Group Nine from National Security and Special Forces have been mobilized… who could possibly warrant that?”

“Ha! What kind of person makes you do that?”

    “A terrorist… no, they don’t deserve it.”

“Foreign soldiers… that doesn’t add up either. There’s no way they’d mix with that sort of person, nor would someone like that be given command.”

“Secret Agent? Spy? That doesn’t seem right, either.”

    “So…”

Xiao Yu’s eyes suddenly lit up as he drew in a sharp breath.

    He had remembered a possibility.

    “Mercenary?”

Each word deliberate, Xiao Yu asked, “Does that boss have mercenaries by his side?!”

That was the only possibility he could think of.

And only this possibility would justify National Security’s response.

So Wang Dong didn’t want him involved?

    Because… mercenaries are crossing borders!

    “Uh!”

On the other end of the line, Wang Dong was dumbfounded. “You can guess that too?”

    “Ha!”

Sure enough… Xiao Yu chuckled, his expression softening as his tone warmed, “Thanks, Wang.”

    But why thank him?

Because Wang Dong truly treated him like a brother.

He was worried, afraid for his life!

    “Enough chatter.”

Wang Dong laughed, “Since you’ve figured it out, National Security will handle the rest. You don’t need to be involved.”

“And what about you?” Xiao Yu asked with a smile.

    “Me?”

Wang Dong burst into laughter, “You know I’ve been in this line of work forever—National Security, National Security, protecting the country and ensuring peace for the people!”

    “Mm.”

Xiao Yu replied with a smile, “Alright then, take care.”

    “Don’t worry.”

Wang Dong, nonchalant as ever, added, “You know me—I’m tough as nails!”

    Call ended.

After hanging up, Xiao Yu’s face darkened.

He finally understood why the system task had a terrifying thirty-day time limit.

Was it because of the mercenaries?

Does it mean that once the investigation is complete, he’ll have to face them?

If he didn’t get involved—even if the case were solved—

that ‘boss’ being apprehended wouldn’t count as his mission accomplished.

The system task would fail, right?

Of course, none of that really mattered now.

A deep, unsettling premonition gnawed at Xiao Yu’s heart.

It was a feeling both strange and inexplicably clear.

    He could barely comprehend it.

It was as if something was telling him, “If you don’t return to Bincheng, you’ll regret it!”

Four and a half hours later.

    Outside the Bincheng Airport.

Xiao Yu nodded at Bai Ting not far off, received the car keys from someone nearby, and slid into a sports car.

    Vroom!

The sports car roared like a blazing red flame as it tore onto the road.

    “Where is it?”

With a Bluetooth headset on, Xiao Yu, behind the wheel, dialed Wang Dong.

“Huh?” Wang Dong’s voice came through, “What’s up?”

Hearing his brother’s voice meant he was still alive, and Xiao Yu sighed in relief.

It meant he’d made it back just in time.

    “Answer me: where are you?”

Xiao Yu said coldly, “I’m back in Bincheng!”

    “Damn!”

Wang Dong cursed into the phone, “Are you crazy? Weren’t you told not to come back?”

“How could I not come back?”

Xiao Yu sneered, “Bincheng is my turf!”

My little patch of land isn’t something just anyone can mess with!

Wang Dong fell silent for a moment before giving an address.

After ending the call, Xiao Yu floored the accelerator.

The sports car roared like a beast and sped away…

About a kilometer outside a dock, in the Storage Area.

    Sizzle!

A burst of white smoke billowed out.

Just as Xiao Yu stepped out of the car, he felt he’d been ‘locked onto’.

    A sniper rifle?

He abruptly looked up toward a cluster of warehouses not far away.

What kind of place was this?

Outside every dock, they set up warehouse zones to store goods until they were dispatched onto ships.

This saved a lot of time.

Under Falcon’s Eye, Xiao Yu ‘saw’ a sniper concealed atop the roof of one of the warehouse rooms.

Without hesitation, he headed straight for that warehouse.

    Five minutes later.

At the door of the warehouse, Xiao Yu spotted Wang Dong.

Wang Dong was even wearing a bulletproof vest.

“Are you out of your mind?”

Wang Dong glared at the younger one in irritation.

His words were laced with curses, yet his eyes held an odd glimmer of concern.

He knew why the younger guy had appeared!

    “Enough talk.”

Xiao Yu, not bothering with Wang Dong’s chiding, walked into the warehouse.

Inside, he found several familiar faces.

A squad of eight Special Forces soldiers.

And another group of six… were they also Special Forces?

    No wonder Xiao Yu misunderstood.

There was a separate team with equipment that seemed even more advanced than that of the Special Forces.

Leading them was none other than Group Nine Commander Zhou Lie!

Also present was a team of Group Two Special Task Force operatives.

“Hey, the little guy’s here,” a Special Forces soldier greeted with a cheeky wave.

    “Yeah,”

Xiao Yu nodded to the squad leader, then glanced at Zhou Lie before turning back to Wang Dong, “When do we move?”

    “Tonight!”

Wang Dong said seriously, “In two hours, a ship bound for overseas will arrive. They’ll use it to smuggle themselves out.”

“How many people?” Xiao Yu asked in a low tone.

    “The exact number is unclear,”

Wang Dong shook his head, “But it won’t be less than fifteen!”

Damn it… Xiao Yu was stunned inside.

    Fifteen mercenaries?!
