Chapter 277: Hao Ren’s Spring
by xennovelIn the Tanga Federation, within the bustling city of Dar es Salaam, sits the African headquarters of Dream Technology. Since the arrival of Rein Leinar to work there, people have begun to consider this place as the global headquarters of Dream Technology.
At 7 am local time, Dream Technology’s official website posted an alert about a highly contagious super virus, stating that due to the collapse of an institute under Buden Pharmaceutical in a major earthquake, a super virus being researched was leaked and has started spreading in the Tokyo area.
This super virus, having been genetically enhanced, had now entered the category of a biological weapon. Characterized by its high contagion and mortality rates, as well as a short incubation period, it presented almost no latent phase.
As Japan stands on the brink of submersion, its people are fleeing worldwide. To prevent the spread of this virus, Dream Technology has donated a batch of protective materials and detection equipment to ensure that customs and entry ports worldwide can effectively block the spread.
This momentous revelation shook the world. Countries initially prepared to lend a helping hand and accept Japanese refugees announced a halt on entry for Japanese nationals, isolating those who’d already arrived. Even the countries that had just declared their willingness to accept refugees had to act promptly and send their ambassadors stationed in the Tanga Federation to Dream Technology’s headquarters, hoping to meet with Rein Leinar and secure donated supplies to prevent the virus from spreading.
Now, Dream Technology’s African headquarters sees a non-stop flow of vehicles donning various national flags and embassy plates. And naturally, more numerous are the reporters—everyone eager to obtain firsthand information on such significant news. Iron Guard Security personnel had already put up barriers, keeping all journalists at bay.
But the reporters weren’t too concerned; for every embassy vehicle that entered, they would scramble to impede and snap photos.
In this tumultuous sea of people stood a woman, dressed in black, positioned near the barrier line. Several men in black suits worked to keep the throng at a distance.
Suddenly, from behind the woman came a voice, “Miss, shall we go in?”
Shaking her head, the woman replied, “No need. We’re heading to Kibo Defense Company,” before turning to leave. The suited men instantly carved a path through the crowd.
The group split between two sedans, swiftly departing from the headquarters of Dream Technology.
Shortly after, the two cars halted before the gates of a building in Dar es Salaam. The building’s height was modest at 36 stories, and it was encased in a circle of high walls that surrounded a vast courtyard. A massive gate prevented any outward view into the premises, beside which a signboard read, “Kibo Defense Limited.”
Two armed guards, vigilant and watchful, deterred any approaching person or vehicle.
When the cars arrived, they were promptly stopped by the armed guards. They scrutinized the visitors, guns at the ready, prepared to fire at a moment’s notice.
The window of the rear car rolled down to reveal a beautiful Asian woman, who inquired pleasantly, “Excuse me, brother guard, I have an appointment with Mr. Hao Ren, your General Manager.”
The guard approached and asked, “Do you have any identification? I need to check and log it in before notifying you.”
She handed over a passport, explaining, “Tell Mr. Hao Ren that Du Minghui has arrived. He will understand.”
The guard quickly inspected the passport, confirmed it was a Japanese document with the name Du Minghui, returned it, and said, “Please wait while I notify. If what you say is true, I will let you in.”
As the guard walked away, the man in the passenger seat muttered in Japanese, “Isn’t this arms company a tad too cautious? Aren’t they open for business?”
“Shut up! Who allowed you to speak Japanese?” Du Minghui reprimanded sternly, “Continue this carelessness, and I’ll send you back to Japan!”
The man’s face paled as he quickly apologized in Tang language, “Sorry, miss, my apologies.”
“Japanese is only to be spoken among Japanese people to indicate we’re overseas Chinese living in Japan.”
“Understood.”
While they were conversing, the gate slowly opened, and a tall African man joyously made his way to them.
Upon seeing Du Minghui in the back car, he exclaimed jubilantly, “Wow, Du Minghui, you really came to see me!”
With a smile, she replied, “Hao Ren, the entrance to your company is quite the fortress.”
“That’s for others. For you, the doors to my company will always be open.”
Hao Ren ushered the car inside with a gesture, then sat down beside Du Minghui.
“Let’s go inside and talk.”
After Hao Ren guided Du Minghui through the company, they settled in his office. The man in the suit, referred to as ‘Xiao Tong,’ waited outside along with the other entourage in the reception room downstairs.
Hao Ren skillfully brewed tea, asking her, “Du Minghui, how’s my Kung Fu tea? Authentic enough?”
He eagerly awaited her verdict as she took a deliberate sip.
“Quite skilled indeed. How’s the taste?”
After savoring the tea, she beamed and complimented, “Not bad, you’ve captured about seventy to eighty percent of the essence. Seems like you’ve practiced a lot.”
Grinning, showing off his bright white teeth, Hao Ren chuckled, “Ever since we met in Dubai, I made an effort to learn, and finally, I’ve got it right.”
Three months ago, Hao Ren met Du Minghui in Dubai during a secret conference with Persian delegates. Captivated by her grace, he returned obsessed, scouring for masters to teach him the art of Kung Fu tea.
Now, having earned her praise, he beamed with satisfaction.
Du Minghui commented, “The weapons produced by your company are quite advanced. You shouldn’t have any troubles with sales, right?”
Hao Ren seized the chance to show off, “You seem well-informed about weaponry. Everything you saw in the showroom is top-notch. After all, our company is backed by Dream Technology.”
A glint appeared in Du Minghui’s eyes as she teased, “Really? Or is that what all companies in the Tanga Federation claim to lure in customers?”
Hao Ren earnestly claimed, “Many companies here boast about being backed by Dream Technology, even calling themselves subsidiaries or ‘grandchild’ companies. But my company genuinely stands with Dream Technology. Actually…”
He paused, noticing the man in the suit, and restrained himself.
Du Minghui, following his gaze to the man, waved him off, “Xiao Tong, step outside for a while.”
Once he left, she probed, “Now that we’re alone, care to share the truth?”
Hao Ren rubbed his hands, “Just keep it between us, though we can always deny it if you go public.”
She smirked, “Don’t trust me? Well, don’t bother then. I’m known for being a chatterbox who can’t keep secrets.”
“Hey, I’ll tell you. I’m actually a significant shareholder of Dream Technology. Doesn’t that prove we’re closely allied?”
“Really? You’re a shareholder of Dream Technology?”
He thumped his chest, “Of course. You know my father’s the President of the Tanga Federation. Would I lie to you?”
Du Minghui bit her lip playfully, “If you introduce me to your father, I’ll believe you.”
【Could this be the legendary ‘meeting the parents’?】
The thought briefly excited Hao Ren as he asked, “Would you join me to meet my father?”
