Chapter 283: Miraculous Healing
by xennovelAunt He wasn’t about to let her elderly mother keep swinging that hoe around, no matter what.
Her mother hadn’t been able to handle such intense activity for years because of her back injury. Normally, even sweeping with a broom was tough, but today it felt like a sudden surge of energy.
It really scared Aunt He.
She calmed her daughter and mother, guiding them back inside.
Grandma insisted it wasn’t necessary: “I really feel fine. I just hadn’t moved around in years and wanted to stretch. My body feels so good I had to try it out.”
Aunt He broke out in a cold sweat as she supported her aging mother:
“Please, Mom, I’m begging you. Let’s go inside and talk. Whether you’re better or not, just don’t hoe the ground. Even seeing you stand straight makes me nervous. I’m terrified you’ll hurt yourself again.”
Grandma laughed heartily: “I really am fine now. I’m healed.”
“Okay, okay, you’re fine, you’re fine. Let’s go inside and discuss it.”
Grandma couldn’t argue with her daughter and let herself be led back, but she tried to wave her off: “Alright, we’ll go in, but you don’t need to hold me. My back’s better now, so why bother?”
“No, no, let me hold you. Please, I’m pleading with you! If that’s not enough, I’ll kneel down right here.”
“What are you saying?”
Heqing stood nearby, smiling as she picked up the hoe, but Aunt He called out: “Heqing, put that hoe away and come inside!”
Heqing agreed and set the hoe aside.
She thought to herself that Grandma’s recovery must be due to Lin Zheng Ran’s medicine. After all, the only change between morning and now was that single pill.
Her face flushed with excitement, though she didn’t know why the medicine was so powerful.
But thinking it was from Lin Zheng Ran made it seem completely normal.
He was just that amazing!
Back in the living room, Aunt He helped her mother sit on the sofa: “Mom, take it slow, be careful with your back.”
Grandma smiled helplessly: “Oh, I really am fine. You don’t need to hold me anymore.”
“I’m begging you, just sit down. Seeing you like this makes my heart race.”
Heqing sat on the sofa too.
Aunt He finally let out a deep breath once her mother was seated, wiping the sweat from her forehead: “Goodness, I just got home from work and you’ve got me all worked up. I’ll go wash my face quick. You two stay put until I get back.”
Aunt He went to the restroom, splashed cool water on her face, and glanced in the mirror at herself and the nearly turned soil in the yard.
Everything felt real, not like a dream at all—if it was a dream, it was too vivid to deny.
On the sofa, Heqing asked Grandma: “Grandma, does your back still hurt?”
Grandma beamed, as if she’d regained control of her body, stretching her arms and rotating her wrists:
“I’m truly fine. It’s been decades since I felt this light. Having a good body makes all the difference.”
“That’s wonderful!” Heqing said, genuinely happy.
When Aunt He returned, she saw her mother stretching and sighed in relief before sitting down.
“Mom, how do you feel?”
Grandma, a bit tired of repeating it, replied: “Better, really better! Let me stand up and show you.”
“Slowly, take it slow!”
As Grandma stood and twisted her waist just like in the yard, Aunt He stared in wide-eyed amazement. This was nothing short of a miracle—the doctors had said the injury was incurable and would worsen with age.
Yet here it was, undeniable before her eyes.
Grandma laughed at her daughter’s stunned expression: “Why are you just standing there like that?”
But then she grew emotional, grabbing her daughter’s hand:
“My dear, I’ve been such a burden with my health all these years, holding you back from so much. Now that I’m better, you’ll have it easier and won’t be dragged down anymore.”
Aunt He took a moment to process, then smiled warmly: “Mom, what are you talking about? I’m just thrilled you’re feeling better. Besides, at my age, I’m not going anywhere anyway.”
As she spoke, Aunt He’s eyes welled up, her lips trembling as she wiped away tears:
“I guess getting older means I cry easier. Mom, you seem years younger—it’s like I never thought I’d see you so full of life again.”
The rush of emotion was overwhelming; anyone would feel it seeing a loved one recover so dramatically. Heqing, seeing her mother’s tears, grabbed some tissues to help wipe them away.
Aunt He took the tissues and looked at her healthy, though aged, mother, her face a mix of tears and smiles.
“It feels just like a dream.”
The family let their emotions flow for a while.
Finally, they settled down to talk about what had happened.
Grandma explained everything from midday: “Heqing brought me a pill, said it was from Lin Zheng Ran and that he made it himself.”
Heqing nodded.
Grandma continued: “I didn’t think much of it at first. But as soon as it dissolved in my mouth, it was incredible. I lay down and felt a warm glow spread through my body, then I dozed off. When I woke, I felt an indescribable lightness!”
“You know, with my age and old injuries plus other aches, I always felt weighed down. But after that nap, it’s like I’ve turned back the clock!”
Aunt He chuckled: “That’s a bit of an exaggeration, Mom. You look the same as when I left this morning.”
“It’s just a figure of speech. That pill was pure magic!”
Aunt He found it hard to believe, like something from old fairy tales, and turned to Heqing:
“So, what you’re saying is, Grandma took that pill and got better right away? What even is it? And what do you mean by Lin Zheng Ran making it himself?”
Heqing said softly:
“Pretty much. Lin Zheng Ran told me he made it himself. There are two pills—one for Grandma and one for you. I have his handwritten note in the bedroom; I’ll grab it!”
“Two pills? Wait, one’s for me?” Aunt He asked, in disbelief.
Heqing was already heading to the bedroom: “Yes, one’s for you. I’ll bring them both!”
In the bedroom, Heqing found the note from Lin Zheng Ran—it was just a slip of paper. The drawer was a mess with other things he’d given her, including many photos of him.
She came out with the note and the wrapped pill, handing them to her mother.
Aunt He stood up carefully and took them, examining everything closely.
After reading the note and confirming the pill was hers, and realizing it had truly healed her mother, she was even more shocked.
Grandma leaned in to look too.
She marveled: “In our time, someone like him would be seen as a living saint. And he’s Heqing’s boyfriend! Our family must have some serious good luck.”
Heqing smiled proudly, a bit shy: “Grandma, I’m not the talented one—he is. I’m just along for the ride.”
Aunt He, still in awe, whispered to her daughter: “Heqing, can I call Lin Zheng Ran to ask about this?”
“Sure, I’ll check with him first on WeChat to see if he’s free.”
Aunt He nodded eagerly: “Yes, please ask if he’s available.”
Heqing noticed how much respect her mother suddenly had for Lin Zheng Ran—her tone had completely changed.
She quickly pulled out her phone and messaged him:
“Lin Zheng Ran, are you busy? My mom wants to talk to you.”
Up north, Lin Zheng Ran seemed to expect this. After all, a medicine infused with spiritual power was far beyond modern medicine, and its effects would shock anyone.
Even though this pill’s power was only a quarter of what he’d given to Jiang Jingshi, he didn’t want to overwhelm the elderly.
He replied quickly on WeChat: “Not busy now, go ahead.”
