Chapter 3: Awkward Dates and Unusual Kidnappings
by xennovelThe three most embarrassing situations for a young man.
Getting caught in the act by your parents while being intimate with your partner.
Commenting on a female teacher’s ample rear and being overheard in the process.
Writing a cheesy mid-teen fantasy novel only to have it exposed to everyone…
Each one leaves you rolling on the floor in utter shame.
Now, Xiao Yu is ready to add one more to the list.
Leaving an arranged date only to head out with the wrong person.
The shame is enough to strip you of your dignity!
Taking a deep breath, Xiao Yu glanced at the room number on the partition.
Room 9?
That right this time?
One more mistake and I’d rather slit my own throat than let someone else do it!
He knocked on the door and stepped into the room.
Inside sat a woman, probably around twenty-four or twenty-five, with an average appearance.
Of course, this was in comparison to the woman in Room 6.
Yet the girl before him wasn’t bad at all—at least, she wasn’t ugly.
“Hi, I’m Xiao Yu.”
Xiao Yu smiled and nodded at the girl.
“Xiao Yu?”
Her eyes lit up as she stared at his handsome face. “Oh, I’m…”
Before she could introduce herself, the partition door was pushed open.
To their shock, Mu Qingwu strolled in. Not even glancing at the girl, she fixed her gaze on a dumbfounded Xiao Yu and said, “Still trying to run?”
“…”
Xiao Yu’s lips twitched as he chuckled in disbelief, “Sis, what are you doing?”
He couldn’t quite figure it out—she was simply defying all logic.
“What do you mean?”
Mu Qingwu replied coolly, “We’re not done with our arranged date yet. Why are you trying to run away?”
Xiao Yu: …
The girl beside him: ???
“So, are you coming with me, or…?”
Locking eyes with Xiao Yu, Mu Qingwu asked, “Do you want me to kidnap you?”
What the heck?
Xiao Yu was utterly stunned.
What exactly did she mean by that?
If I refuse to go with you, are you really going to kidnap me?
Then he noticed two men in suits entering the room.
The girl next to him jumped in fright.
Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes and looked at Mu Qingwu, “What’s going on?”
“I was about to ask you the same,” she retorted.
In a cold tone, Mu Qingwu said, “You burst into my room, flirted with me, and then left without an explanation?”
“Well…” Xiao Yu found himself at a loss for words.
She wasn’t wrong.
You dash into someone’s room, spout off a bunch of clichés like a typical ‘average guy,’ and somehow make her fall for you.
If that isn’t flirting, then what is it? Is it wrong for her to be upset?
And consider yourself lucky; she’s got a good temper.
Imagine if she had a bad temper—and a husband or boyfriend already!
Do you really think you’d get away with it even if you provoked her?
So, Xiao Yu ended up being ‘kidnapped’.
Well, not exactly kidnapped—he went along with Mu Qingwu.
Before leaving, he shot an apologetic glance at the girl from the arranged date, leaving her to figure things out on her own.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go on a date with her.
Look—it’s pretty clear I’m being kidnapped here!
…
A supercar roared down the street.
Trailing behind was a business sedan.
Inside the sports car…
Xiao Yu, on the verge of tears, glanced at Mu Qingwu, who was behind the wheel.
Clearly, one shouldn’t overdo it.
If you had just behaved when you met her,
any misunderstanding could have been resolved without all this trouble.
Letting things get out of hand only invites more trouble—he learned that lesson the hard way!
The sports car pulled into an upscale community and parked in the garage of a lavish villa.
“Get out.”
Mu Qingwu shot Xiao Yu a glance and ordered, “Get out.”
With a bitter smile, Xiao Yu stepped out after her.
The two walked into the villa’s garden.
“I’m Mu Qingwu, 28 years old,” she introduced.
Then she asked, “And you?”
“Xiao Yu.”
Xiao Yu’s lips twitched as he replied, “22 years old.”
“Such a good boy,” she teased.
Mu Qingwu smiled, “I asked you earlier on the car—what do you think?”
Xiao Yu remained silent.
While in the car, Mu Qingwu had suggested becoming a couple.
Obviously, he wouldn’t agree.
“Though you’re incredibly beautiful—truly beautiful—
I’m a decent guy and barely even know you,” he protested.
“Speak up,” Mu Qingwu said, frowning.
“Sis, you’re 28.”
Xiao Yu forced a grin, “Even though you’re stunning—every young man dreams of someone younger who can be sweet and charming—oh, I mean, sis, you’re gorgeous too, just a bit older!”
Of course, 28 isn’t out of the question.
He just wasn’t too keen on being passive.
He wasn’t like those guys from his past who constantly moaned, ‘Auntie, I don’t want to work hard anymore.’
As a time traveler, surely I have some pride?
“Really?”
Mu Qingwu laughed softly, “And you still don’t know what you do?”
“I just graduated from the Police Academy.”
Xiao Yu shrugged, “Now I’m waiting for my internship assignment.”
Graduating from the Police Academy doesn’t automatically make you a cop.
You still need to pass exams, tests, and interviews… and more.
Only top scorers are recruited by major law enforcement agencies.
Even then, you’re not a full-fledged officer—you need to complete a one-year probation.
After probation, if your department thinks you’re good, you can stay. Otherwise, pack your bags.
Luckily, Xiao Yu aced every test and now waits for his assignment at home.
Where he’ll be assigned remains a mystery for now…
“A cop?”
Mu Qingwu furrowed her brows, “How much do you earn per month?”
“Huh?”
Xiao Yu looked puzzled, “During probation, I probably earn around 1,000 to 1,800.”
With a base pay of 500 during probation plus allowances—it barely adds up to that much…
