Chapter 327: Shifting Bodies and Hidden Signals
by xennovelShuangshuang, are you thinking about the boss?
Leng Yanran’s voice suddenly came from behind.
Ning Shuangshuang turned around. Seeing the beaming Leng Yanran, she couldn’t help but ask, “You didn’t return to the Heaven Realm?”
“This time, after switching bodies, it really feels different. My reaction speed has shot up more than tenfold.”
“Yeah, moving that fast yet still insisting on decapitating people… This time, Hao Ren was so terrified he went blank. Just wait till your boss deals with you.”
Ning Shuangshuang knew that Leng Yanran had adopted a new body built on quantum chips and quantum communication—with greatly enhanced power and the ability to run a dynamic visual camouflage system. That’s why she was brought in to handle the fake Watanabe Minghui.
After all, Leng Yanran could stealthily approach Hao Ren and rescue him.
Everything went according to plan, though no one expected her to turn it into such a brutal display that left Hao Ren completely shocked.
After hearing that, Leng Yanran’s smile instantly vanished. “I… I just wanted to test the power of the laser sword. Who knew it was so potent!”
In the blink of an eye, that woman’s head was severed; even the blood was sealed off without spilling.
Ning Shuangshuang shook her head and said, “As if that wasn’t repulsive enough—let’s not even go there.”
Leng Yanran stuck out her tongue and said, “Shuangshuang, make sure you sweet-talk the boss properly. Don’t let him punish me, okay?”
Ning Shuangshuang glared at her and retorted, “Sweet-talk? After switching bodies, what kind of nonsense have you picked up?”
Leng Yanran looked a bit dumbfounded. “Aren’t you the boss’s wife? You two live together—so naturally, you can whisper sweet nothings in bed.”
Ning Shuangshuang’s face reddened as she chided, “Don’t talk nonsense! I’m not even married to your boss—how could we possibly be… together?”
“Really? But I’ve seen plenty of evidence that couples in love often cohabit before marriage. Don’t you two already…?”
“Enough, what evidence have you even looked at?” Ning Shuangshuang quickly interrupted Leng Yanran.
“Did I misspeak?” Leng Yanran asked, clearly confused. “All the data I saw said the same thing!”
+++++++
On Mars, in the Water Medusa Nest area.
Du Qiu’s private jet slowly descended.
A makeshift base has been established here—capable of housing thousands. For now, over 600 people are engaged in research.
In a vast chamber, a massive rectangular prism of dark bluish hue stood at the center, measuring 12 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 6 meters high.
The prism was surrounded by an array of instruments. People in white protective suits and several robots were busy operating the equipment.
About several dozen meters away, a huge transparent isolation wall was built. At that moment, Du Qiu, accompanied by Ding Shaoqiu and others, was examining the prism in the isolation zone.
“Boss, we’ve thoroughly disinfected the prism and conducted a full three-day inspection. From the outside, everything appears normal.”
Du Qiu asked, “How does this prism differ from the ones we dismantled from the Heavenly Garden before?”
Ding Shaoqiu, well-versed in the recent test data for the prism, immediately replied, “In terms of appearance and dimensions, there’s virtually no difference. We can nearly conclude it’s a modular isolation chamber.”
“However, the inscription on its door is baffling. My translation differs from Fang Weiming’s, leading to entirely opposite meanings.”
Du Qiu glanced at Ding Shaoqiu and Fang Weiming and asked, “Explain—how do your translations differ?”
Ding Shaoqiu explained, “My translation reads ‘Signal Emission Blocker,’ while Fang Weiming’s is ‘Signal Output Filter.’ Have another look at the original text.”
Ding Shaoqiu held up a tablet before Du Qiu, displaying one end of the prism. On its dark bluish casing was engraved a row of characters in the language of the Pleiades.
Du Qiu was very familiar with the script and understood its meaning immediately.
“It means ‘Signal Filter,’ which makes Fang Weiming’s translation more accurate. It’s strange—does this prism really hold a box full of ‘Signal Filters’?”
Ding Shaoqiu, questioning his own translation’s precision, pointed at the tablet and asked, “Boss, doesn’t that term in Du language mean ‘to block’?”
“Then why did you and Fang Weiming translate it as ‘filter’ or ‘screen’?”
Du Qiu explained, “The word does mean to block, but the following term, ‘signal,’ carries an attribute—it implies modulation.”
“In radio communications, blocking a modulated signal typically means filtering or shielding.”
“But here, the final word is ‘transmission,’ which makes ‘filter’ a better overall translation. After all, aside from modulated signals, many natural electromagnetic signals aren’t meant to be blocked.”
Fang Weiming asked, “Boss, what does it mean that the Pleiadians have hidden a box of signal output filters 8,000 meters underground in this Martian region?”
Du Qiu shook his head and said, “That’s unclear. Let’s open the prism and stop guessing.”
“Alright, I’ll notify the team inside to open the prism immediately.”
Following the order, several individuals in the central isolation zone began evacuating, leaving only robots behind.
Since no one knew what lay inside, they naturally wouldn’t risk keeping people there—a sacrifice if things went wrong.
At the same time, several armed robots were poised and ready.
Once everything was set, a robot carrying a crystal cube approached one end of the prism’s hatch, pressed a symbol, and it collapsed inward to reveal a square opening.
The robot inserted the cube, and instantly, a burst of white light flickered.
After roughly a dozen seconds, a hissing sound signaled pressure release as the hatch slowly lifted, revealing a small space of just a few square meters.
The robot proceeded inside. The space was completely enclosed, though on the front wall were numerous instrument displays.
From the video feed transmitted by the robot, Du Qiu and his team quickly understood the function of these instruments.
Du Qiu’s face was the first to show shock.
All the instruments on that wall were used to display the operating status of a ‘signal filter,’ which already appeared to have shut down.
In short, the interior of this massive prism functioned as a giant signal filter.
Even buried 8,000 meters beneath the Martian surface, it could filter signals within a 20 astronomical unit radius.
That is to say, if this colossal machine were operating normally, every modulated radio signal would be filtered.
It could also be described as shielding.
This fact left Du Qiu utterly shocked. Why would the Pleiadians bury such a powerful device on Mars?
What is its operating principle? How can it screen out all modulated radio signals within a 20 astronomical unit range?
If this device were functioning normally, wouldn’t that mean every radio wave emitted from Earth would be contained?
When exactly did it stop working?
Could it be that Earth has never been detected by aliens because this device has been screening all radio waves from Earth?
It’s certain that this device ceased functioning before humanity on Earth began its space exploration; otherwise, the United States’ Voyager 1 and 2 wouldn’t have maintained contact with Earth.
Ding Shaoqiu suddenly exclaimed, “We’ve uncovered the answer to the Fermi Paradox! The Pleiadians’ machine blocks all Earth’s radio signals, which is why we perceive a cosmic silence!”
“No, the cosmic silence isn’t due to it!”
