Chapter 422: Who Is He? (Update 2)

The interrogation room door slowly swung open.

Xiao Yu stepped in, with Wang Cheng trailing eagerly behind.

Zhao Changshan and Zhou Tinghu both wore grim expressions.

Suspect Lai Jun sat in the interrogation chair with his head bowed.

    “How did the interrogation go?”

Sitting next to Zhao Changshan, Xiao Yu asked with a smile.

Wang Cheng obediently stood behind the three big shots.

“He’s stubborn. They didn’t get much out of him,” Zhou Tinghu frowned.

He and his team were seasoned detectives; their methods spoke for themselves.

Interrogation skills like these are honed by years of experience.

If even they struggled to break him, imagine how unyielding Lai Jun’s tongue must be.

Xiao Yu glanced at the computer on the interrogation table.

It displayed all of suspect Lai Jun’s personal information.

Back in college, he had been a con artist, swindling money from two roommates.

After the incident, he was expelled from school.

Later, he went through a ‘three in, three out,’ adding more to his criminal record.

Most of his offenses were related to superstitious scams.

His schemes were nothing more than typical ‘Five Immortals’ cons.

The worst part was that this Lai Jun even duped a married couple.

He had multiple extramarital encounters with the wife that resulted in her pregnancy.

Not only did he ruin their finances, but he also exploited their wife to bear his child.

Has his moral compass completely shattered?

In one swift breath, Xiao Yu regained his sense of right and looked up at Lai Jun, “Think enduring it will work?”

Lai Jun kept his head down, looking as limp as a piece of rolling meat.

    “Premeditated murder, dismemberment—two lives lost.”

Xiao Yu glared coldly and challenged, “Knowing what’s coming for you, are you really not going to name your accomplice?”

After the police’s final tracking, another suspect had gone missing.

    Xiao Yu wasn’t a god.

A genius can’t outmatch a time traveler; a time traveler is no match for someone with destiny; destiny falters before a cheater; and even cheating is useless against someone with an aura.

The system had assigned Xiao Yu the task of cracking the case.

Some cases remain unsolvable, even with every trick in the book…

“By the way, you have five senior siblings in total.”

Xiao Yu snorted, “You’re… Liu Xian? Playing mystical tricks like a fool. Aren’t you both proud and smug?”

Suddenly, Lai Jun lifted his head, glaring fiercely at Xiao Yu.

Everyone harbored their own unique pride.

That pride usually stemmed from one’s greatest strength or signature trait.

For instance, if you’re the best of the best but someone calls you a noob, it stings.

    Wouldn’t that make you angry?

Xiao Yu wasn’t one to manipulate minds through psychology.

Of course, that was only if the other person was worth it.

    “Anger?”

Xiao Yu sneered contemptuously, “A scammer with no real skill—back in ancient times, you couldn’t even scrape into the lower ranks. What gives you the right to be angry? You’re nothing more than a common lowlife, not even worth a prostitute!”

In ancient times, society was divided into rigid classes: upper, middle, and lower.

Upper echelon: Emperors, sages, top scholars, literati, farmers, workers, merchants, warriors, and students.

Middle echelon: Prodigies, fortune tellers, physicians, painters, hermits, chess and music enthusiasts, monks, taoists, and nuns.

Lower echelon: Government clerks, street performers, musicians, spirit mediums, dog beaters, porters, high performers, circus artists, and prostitutes.

    Strictly speaking.

In ancient times, even petty thieves and scammers

were not considered worthy of the lower echelon, unable to step onto the main stage.

Not even comparable to a prostitute!

    “You…”

An enraged Lai Jun’s face flushed bright red as he glared at Xiao Yu.

    “Did I say something wrong?”

Xiao Yu chuckled lightly, “Good, be angry. I like seeing someone who despises me yet can’t take me down.”

Zhao Changshan, Zhou Tinghu, and Wang Cheng were all in disbelief.

They looked on, puzzled by Xiao Yu’s suddenly venomous tongue.

    What was happening?

Xiao Yu was deliberately trying to enrage him.

The angrier the target became, the thinner his mental defenses grew.

Criminal psychology notes that when people are angry, they’re at their most uncontrollable.

“Hey, you sure know how to stir emotions. You get angry too.”

With a warm smile, Xiao Yu continued, “Honestly, I don’t enjoy talking to those whose IDs are about to be cut. People like you—so straightforward that your mind goes straight from your gut to your brain—will barely get a four-course meal… Though sometimes, I do envy you. Having an ID that’s like a cherished family portrait must be amazing!”

    Holy shit… everyone was stunned.

Who knew insults could be delivered like that?

    It wasn’t just about cursing.

    It was almost otherworldly.

    Forget about Lai Jun.

At that moment, everyone felt an overwhelming urge to punch Xiao Yu.

    His words were vicious—too cutting!

    “Ah!”

Lai Jun roared as he struggled to stand.

But his limbs were chained to the interrogation chair.

    Why such anger?

A few harsh words shouldn’t provoke this level of fury, right?

Zhao Changshan and the others couldn’t understand.

They had no idea that Xiao Yu wasn’t just insulting—he was also…

    using Hypnosis!

He deliberately used tone, expressions, gestures, and words… to ignite Lai Jun’s rage.

Stepping up to Lai Jun, Xiao Yu smiled and said, “So, you’re so enraged. I guess only someone as physically and mentally impaired as you would resort to murder, right? Killing and then dismembering bodies just to showcase your twisted mindset?”

“Shut up. You’re nothing but a trash cop; you don’t know a damn thing,” Lai Jun bellowed, then suddenly laughed self-satisfied, “So you really know nothing, huh? It proves that cops are just brainless fools.”

    “Is that so?”

Xiao Yu’s smile faded as he retorted, “Gan Xinlei and Shi Wangmei weren’t killed by you. It was your accomplice, right, 410?”

    “Uh!”

Lai Jun, caught mid-laugh, froze, his expression turning to panic.

“So the real pervert is him. I knew something was off about this case.”

Xiao Yu squinted, “You’ve been using Shi Wangmei and Lu Juan to help you control Gan Xinlei for years, all in a bid for money. Why bother with murder then?”

“But the person still died, and his body was dismembered into so many pieces—like constructing a house of human remains. That hardly fits a scam… If you intended to kill, why wait all these years?”

“It’s clear then that your plan never accounted for… him?”

“His appearance completely disrupted your plan? Otherwise, Gan Xinlei’s money would have been all yours. So why take out loans in Gan Xinlei’s name?”

“Taking out loans means time was short. It implies that the person who derailed your plan… is a lunatic, a pervert. Even you seem scared, worried he might do something to you. Planning to grab the money and run?”

“No escape, huh? Or did he catch up with you?”

“Gan Xinlei is dead, Shi Wangmei is dead. There’s no way you killed them… If you were truly ruthless, how would you have spared your senior sibling, leaving her with 200,000? You’d have silenced her long ago. So…”

Xiao Yu fixed his unyielding gaze on a dumbstruck Lai Jun.

    “Who is he?”
