Chapter 508: No Blood, No Sheath (Update 1)

    Border Outpost.

Bright sunlight streamed into a barracks, bathing two National Security team leaders in its glow.

I once had a mentor who taught me this.

Gazing at Zhou Lie in his hospital bed, Xiao Yu’s tone was void of emotion as he remarked, “If a criminal one day blatantly shows you his misdeeds, it means there’s an even graver crime lurking in the shadows. The more you try to cover it up, the more evident it becomes—it’s like there’s no silver hidden here at all!”

“Deliberately stirring up such chaos at the border—surely their plan is enormous, right?”

After a moment’s pause, Zhou Lie furrowed his brow and said, “When the enemy cloaks themselves, our actions become predictable. It’s a tricky situation.”

    “Exactly.”

Xiao Yu nodded. “Not knowing their true purpose means we can’t target them effectively. We risk being led around, only ever seeing what they want us to see.”

“The worst is they could be armed with devastating weapons—posing a huge threat to ordinary citizens.”

“And if their target is everyday people… the consequences…”

    What kind of consequences?

Zhou Lie’s expression turned icy. “You couldn’t even track them down?”

    “I’m not a miracle worker.”

Xiao Yu chuckled at Zhou Lie’s comment. “With you talking like that, I’m really in a bind.”

Then, out of nowhere, a joke popped into his mind.

If you were sleeping between a man and a woman…

Would you have your backside facing the man or the woman?

Facing a woman might get you labeled as gay.

But facing a man could land you in serious trouble.

So, do you expect me to start rolling around?

After all, even deities don’t roll around every day!

“Haha!” Zhou Lie burst into laughter.

Back in the day, they all treated Little Brother like a freak.

At times, they even believed Xiao Yu was nearly omnipotent.

They gradually forgot that Xiao Yu was just a person—a young man.

People are human; no one can do it all!

“Now, we just have to wait for them to reveal their true purpose.”

With a serious look, Xiao Yu stated, “Since they left that photo behind—even if it’s about avenging a mercenary—their declared aim is clear. Let’s just play along for now.”

“You mean…” Zhou Lie’s face suddenly paled.

    “They could target you,”

Xiao Yu nodded. “Chances are they know it was our squad that ambushed that mercenary team!”

Zhou Lie frowned, “So that operation got leaked?”

    “Not surprising.”

Xiao Yu shrugged. “Back then, it wasn’t just National Security and the Special Forces—we had the police and the Armed Police too. With so many mouths to feed, leaks were inevitable. Anyone curious enough could find out.”

“But I think they only know that National Security and Special Forces were involved; they wouldn’t know the specifics.”

“They’re merely trying to flush out certain individuals, though they might not even know exactly who they are. And your being attacked… it’s just lousy luck—a fortunate accident!”

“A fluke?” Zhou Lie stared in disbelief. “You think I’m really that unlucky?”

    According to Little Brother…

Is this group trying to lure out those who ambushed the mercenary team back then?

And Zhou Lie happened to be one of them.

It seems he inadvertently walked right into their trap.

Damn, is it really that coincidental?

“This deduction is based solely on the clues we have,”

Xiao Yu laughed, “We may not know their true objective yet, but one thing’s clear: those two mercenaries are nothing but bait!”

“Bait is meant to lure in fish.”

Their display of that photo is simply bait.

Its purpose is to flush out those involved in the old mercenary ambush.

    “Who exactly are these people?”

Xiao Yu, Wang Dong, Zhou Lie, Zhao Long… two National Security teams and one Special Forces unit.

“And what do they hope to achieve by drawing these people out?”

    “So…”

Zhou Lie, not exactly lacking in smarts, queried, “They will show up?”

    “Certainly.”

Xiao Yu nodded. “When they send out this signal, it’s clear they’re set on finding us from that old encounter. Once we catch wind of it, we’ll come after them. Right?”

“So these two are bait—while others hide in the shadows, waiting to see who dares approach.”

“It’s like fishing; bait is meant to be out in the open.”

“If you hide the bait, how will the fish bite?”

Xiao Yu sneered, “Those two bait will reveal themselves soon enough!”

    Suddenly.

A member of Group Nine burst into the room and reported to the two team leaders, “We’ve spotted their trail!”

Zhou Lie was visibly alarmed as he glanced at the unruffled Xiao Yu.

    Damn… they’ve actually shown up.

    “You actually predicted this?”

Xiao Yu got up. “I’ll go check it out.”

    “Be careful.”

Zhou Lie said gravely, “They’re clearly fishing—if you go, you’ll be stepping right into danger.”

    “Danger?”

Xiao Yu scoffed, “Are you sure it’s not them who are in danger?”

Zhou Lie was momentarily stunned before breaking into a silent laugh.

The sharpest blades of National Security had been drawn.

    No blood, no sheath!

    ……

P City is a county town.

It’s one of those fifth-tier towns near the border.

Such towns are generally small, with modest economies and less-than-ideal transportation.

But even a small town has all the essentials.

Due to its remote location, it often lies near mountainous regions.

Half an hour ago, local police reported

that two foreign nationals had entered the town.

After their appearance, they vanished—possibly hiding somewhere in P City…

Above, aboard a high-speed armed helicopter,

Xiao Yu re-equipped himself with close-, mid-, and long-range weapons.

At that moment, he felt every bit like a damn Special Forces soldier.

    Utterly badass!

Maybe I should take a selfie to show my sister later?

    Nah.

He’s a cop; Mu Qingwu is on edge all day.

If my sister ever found out I landed on a battlefield…

    She’d be terrified!

    Suddenly.

Xiao Yu’s heart began racing uncontrollably.

An unbearable bout of palpitations hit him, like a heart attack in the making.

His entire being—both mind and body—screamed out warnings.

    “Danger, danger, danger!”

(Ma Qian Zhao) “Change direction, quickly!”

Xiao Yu roared at the helicopter pilot.

The pilot was stunned for a moment before instantly maneuvering the chopper.

    Then, suddenly,

    Boom.

A deep, silent boom echoed from P City below.

A sniper bullet shattered the helicopter’s forward windshield.

The terrifying bullet grazed the pilot’s helmet, sparking as it struck the cockpit.

The helicopter spiraled out of control as it plummeted.

    Fuck… Xiao Yu cursed.

I’m never riding a damn helicopter again.

To a sniper, it’s nothing but a live target!

    Boom!

The helicopter crashed onto the road, demolishing a car and flipping over.

At that moment, a figure leaped from the wreckage.

On the road, Xiao Yu slowly lifted his head and muttered coldly,

“Little B*tch, you’re done for today. I’m taking your name!”
