Chapter 516: The Assassin Landlord (Update 4)

An Zhiyao was in high spirits today.

At last, he could leave that damned P City behind.

No longer did he have to play the role of a ‘Landlord.’

Now he carried the identity of… Ren Qihua.

An identity he had bought years ago.

How did he come by it?

He purchased it from a relative of someone in a mental institution.

The previous owner was still confined in the asylum.

Yet, An Zhiyao had already assumed the identity.

He had used this identity for more than a decade.

Under the name ‘Ren Qihua,’ he even married a beautiful wife.

Of course, he held a third identity as well.

    Assassin!

    Can ordinary people become assassins?

    Yes.

With some special training, even an ordinary person can be turned into an assassin.

Take poisoning, for example—the simplest method of murder.

Using toxins like the ‘500’ compound, plant poisons, or chemical agents.

Needle pricks, contaminated drinks, slashes… all capable of killing in an instant!

Years ago, the master who trained them was executed.

Yet, he and his junior sister took over their master’s assassination business.

Yesterday, the junior sister went out to hunt a target.

Since then, there has been no word from her.

It must have been a doomed mission, right?

That filled An Zhiyao with a strange glee.

Because if the junior sister were to die,

nobody would ever be able to trace him again.

He could live as a wealthy ordinary man under the name Ren Qihua,

cutting all ties with his past forever!

At the front of his villa, An Zhiyao pushed open the door.

The living room lay in complete darkness.

Sound of running water came from the upstairs bathroom.

A wicked grin spread across An Zhiyao’s face.

His wife was taking a bath.

Thinking of her enticing figure sparked a burning desire within him.

Playing the role of ‘Landlord’ meant he rarely saw his wife.

Sometimes ten days, or even months, would pass before they could be together.

How could any man bear that?

He tossed off his coat and prepared to sneak upstairs for a surprise.

But after only a couple of steps, his stride abruptly halted.

He froze like a stone, his eyes fixed on the dim living room.

They were locked on a figure seated on the sofa!

“Don’t let your wife see you like this. Behave, and come here.”

The cold, slightly hoarse voice echoed slowly from the sofa.

After a moment, An Zhiyao, his body stiff, took hesitant steps toward the sofa.

    “Sit down,” the voice ordered.

The figure on the sofa spoke in a cold tone.

Obediently, An Zhiyao slowly sat down.

    Snap.

A lighter flared to life, igniting a cigarette and illuminating a handsome face.

The moment An Zhiyao saw that face, cold sweat broke out all over him.

    He was terrified!

Because he recognized who this man was.

He had even seen a photo of him before.

How could it be… An Zhiyao stared in disbelief at the man opposite him.

How had he managed to find him?

“Don’t you find it odd that I could track you down?”

Exhaling smoke, Xiao Yu sneered, “The reasoning is simple. You never left the city, yet you vanished without a trace. The fact that your bank account has not a single penny shows you were always ready to flee. But… you never left P City. Where else could you go?”

“Yet you disappeared. I started to suspect something was amiss, so I ran your original photo through the police database and uncovered an identity: Ren Qihua?”

“Isn’t it strange? There are two faces in this world that are nearly identical.”

“What makes this Ren Qihua even more interesting is that his bank account holds over two million in unexplained funds, and he even owns a villa.”

“Yet he has no record of any business or employment… and he’s still a patient in a mental asylum.”

“How could a man in a mental institution be able to buy a villa and amass over two million in savings? If you were a cop and noticed such a discrepancy, wouldn’t you come to check it out?”

    “So…”

Xiao Yu crushed his cigarette butt in the ashtray on the coffee table and smiled at a sweating An Zhiyao. “I’m coming for you.”

Changing identities or maintaining dual identities might sound miraculous to ordinary people,

but in a detective’s eyes, every shadow must be scrutinized until every lead is fully investigated.

If there’s even a hint of irregularity, one inquiry leads squarely to the next!

An Zhiyao’s face showed both helplessness and pain as his left thumb toyed with his wedding band.

“You’d better not even think about dying. You might still get a chance to see your child…” Xiao Yu said coldly.

An Zhiyao’s thumb lingered on his wedding band as he stared at Xiao Yu in stunned disbelief.

“Once we track you down, we’ll be investigating your wife as well,”

Xiao Yu continued coolly, “Six days ago, she went to the hospital. The fetus in her womb is already two months along.”

An Zhiyao’s eyes widened; he wasn’t sure whether to be overjoyed or deeply worried.

His thumb finally withdrew from the wedding band.

That band was special—it concealed a hidden needle.

It could instantly prick one’s finger.

    And what was its purpose?

The needle’s pore contained the venom of a box jellyfish!

The box jellyfish is the deadliest creature in the world.

Some even call it the square jellyfish, though the names vary.

It is known as the most lethal toxin on earth.

Once exposed to box jellyfish venom, a person’s organs would begin to fail within two minutes,

with no known antidote or rescue possibility.

Hearing that his wife was expecting a child, An Zhiyao’s suicidal thoughts vanished in an instant.

Just as Xiao Yu had predicted.

Before dying, he had only wished to see his child one last time…

    ……

    Interrogation Room.

“Five days ago, an ’employer’ contacted me through unconventional means, instructing me to complete three tasks.”

“First, I was to pick up an African Man and hide him away.”

“Second, I was ordered to kill someone stationed at a Border Outpost.”

“Third, three days later, I had to leak the news of the hidden African Man to lure some thugs.”

    “The reward was three million!”

“I first hid the African Man, then arranged for my junior sister to carry out the murder. Three days later, I let a few thugs know that the African Man was hidden at my place, instructing them to lure him over. They managed it, and I promised them one hundred thousand.”

“It was on that very day that the African Man approached me, handing over a photo… of you. He asked if I was interested. When I saw the weapons you were carrying, I immediately refused—it was absolutely ludicrous.”

“I suspected something was off, so I fled immediately…”

As An Zhiyao recounted his confession, Xiao Yu held a photo in his hand.

    It was a drone-shot—a bird’s-eye view photograph.

The angle was taken from directly above.

    A drone’s eye view!
