Book Chapter 541: The Truth Behind the Laboratory Explosion (Update 4)

Yao Zhengqi is on the verge of a breakdown. Lin

That feeling of dread mixed with terror—as if you were completely overwhelmed by fear.

So foolish, like a dog. That’s why you’re not the main character… Xiao Yu looked at the bewildered Yao Zhengqi and asked, “Can’t you see how I deduced it?”

Yao Zhengqi snapped back to reality, about to nod, but then quickly lowered his head to hide the panic on his face.

“Honestly, if you really think about it, you’ll figure it out,” Xiao Yu replied.

Xiao Yu snorted. “The lab’s security was top-notch, yet your formula somehow leaked out. Doesn’t that puzzle you? And the very person who threatened you knew the formula. Haven’t you ever considered that this wasn’t a leak at all, but the original creator of the formula coming for you?”

    “Impossible!”

Yao Zhengqi shuddered all over, his face as pale as if painted in a ‘520’ hue, sweat on his forehead betraying his inner tension and disbelief.

Inside, his heart screamed in madness: Impossible! That man is dead—he can’t possibly come back! Absolutely impossible!

“Deep down, you must be thinking: he’s dead, and you killed him,” Xiao Yu remarked.

Almost as if stating a fact, he added, “He isn’t coming back to life, is he?”

Yao Zhengqi stared at Xiao Yu.

He saw a look of disdain burning in Xiao Yu’s eyes, as if it could pierce his chest, interrogate his conscience, and reduce him to ashes.

It made his body feel as if it had plunged into an icy abyss, his blood turning to ice.

Yao Zhengqi was utterly convinced that Xiao Yu possessed an uncanny ability to see through people’s hearts.

Right before Xiao Yu’s eyes, his true self was laid bare.

    There were no secrets left!

“So, have you ever considered this possibility?”

Xiao Yu ventured a theory. “The person you killed wasn’t actually the developer of the Anti-Cancer Drug Formula. You simply assumed he was. The real creator is someone else. And when that person discovered you had killed somebody, he came after you for revenge.”

Yao Zhengqi was stunned, like a statue, murmuring, “How is that even possible? How could such a situation arise? He was clearly…”

    “Why must it be impossible?”

With keen interest, Xiao Yu studied Yao Zhengqi. “I’ve come across a similar case before.”

“There was a novelist—a disabled man confined to a wheelchair,”

he continued, “who led a rather uneventful life but held a deep passion for reading and writing.”

“Once, he published a short story on a website, attracting a huge audience, as well as the attention of a renowned author.”

“Using certain means, that celebrated writer tracked down this disabled author, seeking collaboration.”

“The famous writer had him craft a long novel, even allowing him to use his signature pen name to release it. With that alias, the work would naturally attract even more readers.”

“Before long, the book became a smash hit. Subscriptions alone soared past a million, and film directors and game companies were lining up to partner with the renowned writer.”

“Can you guess what happened next?”

“The long novel not only became popular—it exploded in success. With over a million subscribers, and lucrative offers from both the film and gaming worlds,”

“all thanks to that one book, the famous writer easily raked in… a hundred million!”

“You know how the rest of the story goes, right?”

“The celebrated writer ended up killing the disabled author, wanting to pocket that hundred million for himself.”

    “How ironic—another hundred million, right?”

“Isn’t that the same amount demanded by the one who threatened you?”

Xiao Yu glared at the dumbfounded Yao Zhengqi with outright mockery. “Do you know why I’m telling you this case?”

Yao Zhengqi shook his head in confusion.

“I want to tell you something,” Xiao Yu said.

His eyes filled with ridicule as he continued, “Sometimes what you see on the surface isn’t the full truth. You think the developer of the Anti-Cancer Drug Formula is really the developer? Then tell me, why did you hire nine researchers in the first place?”

Yao Zhengqi’s face turned as white as paper.

Indeed, what was his real purpose?

Was it to secure the Anti-Cancer Drug Formula for himself?

Or to make everyone believe that he was the one who developed it?

Just as Xiao Yu had hinted…

If even you are a facade, how can you prove anyone else is genuine?

    How ironic!

Assuming Xiao Yu’s theory holds true,

what’s the point of Yao Zhengqi obtaining the formula?

After all, there’s only one copy of it in the world, so what?

Who in this world could know the formula better than its true creator?

That person wouldn’t need your lab to leak it.

The one who threatened you already knew the formula, right?

    Isn’t that the truth?

Yet Yao Zhengqi foolishly believed it was a lab leak.

Xiao Yu sneered, “You deliberately made him think that, didn’t you?”

    If this theory holds up,

then extorting a hundred million was just to scare Yao Zhengqi, to make him paranoid?

The real aim was revenge, a trap to make the lab explode.

Explosion… Xiao Yu’s eyes suddenly lit up.

His sharp gaze fixed on Yao Zhengqi as he demanded, “When you got hold of the formula and killed that man… was it also during a lab explosion?”

At Xiao Yu’s demand, Yao Zhengqi’s face grew even paler, his body trembling.

    I see… Xiao Yu’s expression turned complex.

Returning the favor in kind, is that what he meant?

Was the true motive behind that 3.9 incident to use a lab explosion to kill Yao Zhengqi?

Then why did the explosion occur before Yao Zhengqi returned, instead of waiting for him?

Could something else have happened inside the lab?

Xiao Yu recalled the finished Anti-Cancer Drug discovered from the conduit clutched in the corpse’s hand.

He also remembered another corpse that had three distinct wounds carved by a sharp weapon.

And he recalled that the gas valve on the lab’s third floor had been turned on.

It all started to make sense.

Was there another ‘story’ unfolding inside the lab that night?

    “Honestly,”

Xiao Yu stood up and cast a cold glance at the despairing, dazed Yao Zhengqi. “You didn’t die—quite the miracle!”

Do good men not live long while calamities haunt for centuries?

No—Yao Zhengqi will be dragged to the execution ground.

    Xiao Yu guarantees it!

    The End

    Fin.
