Book Chapter 608: Trick… Trick of the Undead? (Update 1)

    Smack!

The hand clenching a blade was freed by Xiao Yu as he slowly turned. Lin

    The woman’s expression changed.

At first glance, she might have seemed fragile and pitiable.

But now, she was completely transformed.

Her face was not only icy, but with every blink her eyes flashed with a cold, ruthless glimmer.

Just one look, and she exuded an air of merciless indifference.

Yet she was clearly taken aback; stepping back two paces, she glared at Xiao Yu and demanded, “How did you find out?”

“I noticed something was off right from the start,” he replied.

Xiao Yu shot the woman a cold glance. “It wasn’t until just now I confirmed—you must be… the Gatekeeper, right?”

    What is a Gatekeeper?

In games, to clear a level you must defeat the final boss.

And that boss is the Gatekeeper.

    This deduction was flawless.

Just as Xiao Yu was about to reach the Machine Room, a woman appeared by chance.

When he tried to enter, the woman struck without hesitation.

Clearly, she was guarding the Machine Room.

She had disguised herself to look like a meek little lamb.

Most people wouldn’t suspect a little lamb.

But Xiao Yu knew that the lamb was the most dangerous.

It’s like the tale of the wolf-eating lamb.

Even a little lamb might dare to take on a wolf!

    “…”

The murderous glint in the woman’s eyes flared as she lunged at Xiao Yu, brandishing her blade. “Die!”

In that moment, Xiao Yu sensed something distinctly off about her.

Her attack was brutally cold—killing for the sake of killing!

“Seems you’ve killed more than one person,” he remarked.

Xiao Yu raised his leg and delivered a sweeping kick.

    Thud… crack!

The woman’s blade-wielding arm was shattered by his kick.

    “Ah!”

She screamed in pain but did not retreat. Instead, she raised her other arm into a fist and swung.

“Interesting,” Xiao Yu observed in surprise.

It was rare to find such a ruthless woman.

Even rarer to see a woman willing to risk her life.

    But what use was that?

    Thud!

Xiao Yu’s kick shattered her punch further, breaking two more ribs.

    And that wasn’t all.

After snapping both her arms, Xiao Yu stood before the woman.

    Smack!

Her neck was grabbed as her arm was hoisted high.

“I’m not interested in killing you just yet; I have questions,” he said.

Watching her struggle mid-air, Xiao Yu sneered, “So, be honest!”

    Boom!

With a sweeping motion, Xiao Yu slammed her body onto the metal floor like a sack of rags.

The impact nearly shattered her body into pieces.

The unbearable pain dimmed her vision as she teetered on the brink of unconsciousness.

    Thud!

Xiao Yu’s foot pressed down on her chest.

    Crack!

Her ribs broke. Just as she was about to pass out, the pain jolted her back, eliciting a wail, “Ah…”

    “Hurting, huh?”

Xiao Yu grinned down at her. “This way, you won’t faint.”

    “…”

The woman’s face twisted in agony, her eyes wide with terror as she stared at Xiao Yu like a demon.

    “Are you scared?”

Xiao Yu replied coldly, “If you are, then tell me everything I need to know.”

The woman gritted her teeth, hesitating.

    Crack!

Xiao Yu stomped hard on her chest, breaking two more ribs.

“I’m telling you… I’m telling you…” she cried out in agony.

But suddenly, Xiao Yu pulled his foot away and bolted back in a frantic retreat.

He felt an indescribable sense of danger.

Like a cannonball, he was propelled backward.

If he didn’t retreat, he would surely die!

In the moment Xiao Yu stepped back, the woman split apart.

Not merely her words—the entire body literally tore open.

Massive blade fragments burst from the metal floor, slicing her into countless pieces.

Moreover, blades shot upward in a straight line at a furious pace, as if to cut the cubic room in two.

Xiao Yu could no longer spare a thought for the woman. He bolted to the Machine Room door, slammed the open button, and dove inside, narrowly evading the slicing blades.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the entire room—with the woman’s bloody, shredded remains—completely demolished.

So this is what happens when you stray from the script… Xiao Yu sneered: blatantly cheating and breaking your own rules?

    It’s like stepping on a cat’s tail.

What do you think a cat would do?

    It’s easy to understand.

The mastermind behind the Anxiety Formula was terrified!

Afraid that Xiao Yu might learn something from that woman.

So he began to break the rules he had set for his game, by any means necessary.

    And that wasn’t all.

The moment Xiao Yu entered the Machine Room,

A terrifying chill swept in—the room’s temperature plummeted rapidly.

Xiao Yu’s expression changed as he surveyed the Machine Room.

He noticed that unlike other rooms, the Machine Room had only two metal doors.

Without hesitation, Xiao Yu charged toward the other metal door.

    But… there was no switch?

No switch—could a metal door be opened by hand alone?

The answer was a resounding no.

Quickly retreating, Xiao Yu attempted to open the metal door he had used to enter.

But… it wouldn’t budge. The button seemed to have malfunctioned.

    That’s it!

A sinking feeling hit Xiao Yu as he sensed the Machine Room’s temperature dropping further.

He also spotted frost forming on the metal walls.

Was he about to freeze to death?

A strange, eerie smile slowly crept onto Xiao Yu’s face.

    Winter Frog’s Sleep… activated!

Frogs, snakes, lizards—these creatures hibernate; that’s common knowledge.

Once in hibernation, even if they freeze solid, they won’t die.

They only need to be thawed to come back to life!

    Thirty minutes.

Xiao Yu’s body stiffened as a layer of frost enveloped his skin.

Not only his body—the entire Machine Room was encased in ice.

After thirty minutes, a surge of warmth began to permeate the room.

The frost slowly started to melt.

After another thirty minutes, Xiao Yu collapsed to the floor.

It was impossible to tell how long had passed.

    Crack!

One of the metal doors in the Machine Room swung open, and a man strode in, heading straight for Xiao Yu.

This was a middle-aged man. Eyeing the lifeless Xiao Yu on the floor, he sneered disdainfully.

He bent down, grabbed Xiao Yu, and headed back toward the metal door through which he had come.

Once outside the Machine Room, he discovered a small elevator.

The man pressed a button and the elevator ascended before pausing.

When the elevator doors opened, the man brought Xiao Yu into a metal room.

We then heard him grumbling, “Damn it, dealing with these corpses every day is such a hassle. And burning them? What a waste of time.”

The man dumped Xiao Yu on the ground and pressed a button on a metal wall.

A small metal furnace appeared, resembling the incinerator in the Corpse Refining Room.

The man returned and reached to grab Xiao Yu.

But then, the man froze, staring dumbly at the motionless Xiao Yu on the ground.

In his mind, this was just a corpse.

Yet the corpse wore a faint, mocking smile as it gazed at him.

Despite the room’s warmth, the man soon broke out in a cold sweat.

    Trick… resurrection?!
