Book – Chapter 656: Where’s the Stability Promised? (Update 4)

    One day later. Lin

Outside the conference room of a five-star hotel.

A striking White Youth stood at the conference room door.

    He was tall and handsome.

His features were typical of a Westerner, yet his skin wasn’t rough like most; instead, it was very fair.

Every detail of his face was exquisitely proportioned—as if crafted by the very hand of God.

Dressed in casual attire, he carried an air of cultured refinement and youthful energy.

Gentle and kind, he exuded the charm of the perfect lover.

“Hello, may I see your invitation?”

Outside the conference room, the White Youth was halted by two doormen.

    “I have one,” he replied.

He pulled an invitation and identification document from his pocket.

“Researcher XXXX, ‘610’ Satellite Laboratory head at Edinburgh University’s Department of Aerodynamics in Country Y… Allen Weilter… Invited…”

One of the doormen murmured to himself, then exchanged a glance with his colleague, nodded, and opened the conference room door. “Please come in!”

    “Thank you.”

The White Youth smiled politely and stepped into the room.

Inside, he grumbled inwardly: two idiots—could they not act a little less foolish? Does one of your doormen even wear a Rolex? And what on earth are those worn-out shoes?

What on earth are worn-out shoes?

    LV = worn-out shoes, right?

Anyway, Xiao Yu thought they were fine.

Indeed, the handsome White Youth before him was none other than Xiao Yu!

Yet Allen Weilter’s identity was genuine.

The catch was, Allen himself lay in a hotel room in a coma.

The so-called ‘conference room’—well, it wasn’t really a conference room.

It was more of a venue for face-to-face discussions.

A group of scientists, experts, and scholars from various countries had come all the way to Bremen to participate in this open exchange.

Upon entering, clusters of people could be seen chatting, laughing, and debating academic theories.

Some recognized each other, while others were strangers—but Wen and Xue shared a common language that bridged the gap.

Xiao Yu’s attention was fixed on an elderly man, David Grant, the organizer of the event.

    The target figure!

At that moment, Grant was deep in conversation with a Middle-Aged Man.

Suddenly, the Middle-Aged Man looked over at Xiao Yu in astonishment. “Allen… huh, you seem to have grown taller—dare I say, even more attractive.”

Damn, this isn’t good… Xiao Yu’s heart skipped a beat.

Had he just run into an acquaintance?

Observing the exchange, Grant asked, “Hart, do you know this young man?”

“Oh, he’s a student of a friend of mine,”

the Middle-Aged Man named Hart said with a smile, waving towards Xiao Yu.

Summoning his courage, Xiao Yu approached. “Hello, Mr. Hart… Hello, Mr. Grant!”

He silently hoped that his ‘surgically altered face’ wouldn’t be exposed!

    “You certainly are handsome,”

Grant examined Xiao Yu with surprise. “By the way, if I recall correctly—Allen? From Edinburgh University?”

“Yes, that’s me,” Xiao Yu acknowledged with a smile.

“I remember now. Your teacher was indeed invited, but since they were busy, they sent you in their place.”

Grant nodded. “I’ve been friends with your teacher for ages—we’re always talking on the phone. He always boasts about his brilliant student. Today, I really intend to test you.”

“This…” Xiao Yu broke into a cold sweat.

Science—this was a realm where his knowledge was utterly lacking!

“Since your teacher sang your praises so highly, let me ask you…”

Grant smiled and inquired, “What do you think is the biggest challenge for spacecraft? The power source. In our field, from a design perspective, spacecraft dynamics and control play a crucial role. So, aside from solar power, how many alternatives can keep a spacecraft running normally?”

I have no idea… Xiao Yu silently cursed as he pretended to ponder deeply.

Though he understood a thing or two about power sources.

For instance, spacecraft primarily rely on solar, nuclear, or chemical energy.

Evidently, his interrogator wasn’t going to ask something so straightforward.

Realization struck—Xiao Yu’s eyes lit up. “Mr. Grant, have you ever considered harnessing the five most potent energies in the universe? Gamma rays, X-rays, radiant energy, antimatter energy, and Murhama energy?”

Grant blinked in confusion, staring at Xiao Yu as if he were an unknown creature.

His expression screamed, ‘Are you kidding me?’

“Mr. Grant, may I ask you a question as well?” Xiao Yu continued with a smile.

    “What is science?”

    “…”

After a long silence, Grant countered, “What do you think science really is…?”

    “Science…”

Xiao Yu smiled. “Isn’t it just wild, unrestrained thinking?”

“Unrestrained thinking?!” Grant exclaimed in disbelief.

Exactly—science is all about breaking conventions, thinking beyond the usual confines to arrive at fresh insights and pave unique paths.

Observing the easy camaraderie between the old and young, Hart shook his head with a smile and walked away.

    “Truly exceptional,”

Grant sighed in admiration and said to Xiao Yu, “Come on, let’s take our discussion somewhere else.”

    Xiao Yu was taken aback.

Originally, he had planned to get closer to Grant.

And then, seize that Satellite Manufacturing Data from him.

But never in his wildest dreams did he expect Grant to proactively engage him!

If that’s the case, I have no choice but to play along.

Xiao Yu and Grant left the conference venue together.

As they departed, one could see Grant casting a cold glance at the two doormen.

Yet the doormen seemed oblivious, neither glancing up nor acknowledging his look.

Something was amiss… Xiao Yu squinted his eyes.

Was there some discord between Grant and the Security Bureau?

If they weren’t on good terms, how were they collaborating?

Could the Security Bureau really be using Grant’s Satellite Manufacturing Data as bait?

In a business suite at the hotel, at 3:90.

    Gone was Grant’s earlier smile.

He looked at Xiao Yu sternly. “What price can you offer? No—what price do the people of Country Y bring to the table?”

For a fleeting moment, Xiao Yu nearly lost control of his expression as he stared blankly at Grant.

    So direct, huh?

“What exactly do you mean?” Xiao Yu blinked a few times, feigning ignorance.

    “Stop pretending,”

Grant smirked coldly. “Everyone wants to talk to me, everyone wants to buy my Satellite Manufacturing Data—it’s clear that the highest bidder wins, don’t you agree?”

Xiao Yu was completely at a loss.

Looking into Grant’s unflinching eyes, he saw a man who could cut down rivals from one end of the street to another without batting an eye.

Is this really how Satellite Manufacturing Data is sold… It all feels so staged. Where’s the promised stability?

    Chapter Summary

Xiao Yu attends an international scientific conference in Bremen, posing as a distinguished researcher. Amid clever banter and unexpected tests by the event’s organizer, David Grant, Xiao Yu struggles with scientific inquiries to mask his own knowledge gaps. As interactions with figures like Hart unfold, secretive alliances and competitive undercurrents emerge. Later, in a private hotel suite, Grant sharply questions the value of the coveted Satellite Manufacturing Data, hinting at backdoor dealings that could jeopardize the conference’s integrity.
