Book – Chapter 730: On the Brink (Update 3)

Seven faces showed anger, terror, indifference, and confusion…

They all stared silently at the motionless corpse.

    Any opinions?

They must have had something to say, but no one dared speak to a man who treated lives like disposable objects.

Without being sure of their own safety, no one opened their mouth.

    Bang!

The meeting room door was smashed open as a group rushed in.

    Before they could even act,

a pistol was pointed at them.

Xiao Yu, holding the pistol, coldly said, “Scram.”

    The intruders obediently retreated.

When faced with life or death, people always follow their true nature!

Once the door closed again, Xiao Yu set the pistol on the table, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes to regroup.

A strange silence enveloped the room as several pairs of eyes fixed on Xiao Yu with complex expressions.

“As long as I’m alive, as long as I’m here…”

Hua Kang asked coolly, “The Boss’s seat is mine. Got it?”

    No one replied.

“Yingzi, there’s not a single cent missing from your account, right?”

Hua Kang looked toward the one woman in the group.

Heavily made-up and in her thirties like a streetwalker, yet her eyes were ice cold.

“Not a penny missing,” she replied.

This woman, Yingzi, maintained the most indifferent expression of all.

Yet her eyes burned with fierce intensity as they remained locked on Xiao Yu.

Like a she-wolf spotting a little white rabbit.

You think my body is something to drool over… Xiao Yu thought disdainfully with his eyes closed.

He even wondered what if Sister Qingwu were here.

She would guard her ‘prey’ like a protective elder sister.

Would she really gouge this woman’s eyes out herself?

Probably not; Mu Qingwu hates getting her hands dirty.

She’d send Bai Ting to do it.

And Bai Ting wouldn’t hesitate for a second.

Goodness, I just realized how terrifying my sister can be!

“Lao Zhao, the warehouse is all set, right?”

Hua Kang turned to a middle-aged man with a Buddha-like smile.

    “No problem,” he replied.

His smile fading, the man cast a wary glance at Xiao Yu before adding, “Only a few pounds left; we need to restock.”

“Laohu, you always handled contact with the suppliers.”

Then Hua Kang looked at another sharply dressed man and said, “This time, order… half a ton.”

“Half a ton?” Laohu exclaimed in surprise.

The others stared at Hua Kang in shock.

    “The last batch,” he continued.

Hua Kang spoke calmly, “I barely escaped capture this time—I’ve had my near-death experience and don’t want to continue. After this last deal, we’re done. If you want to keep going, that’s on you.”

So that was it. The group exchanged glances and nodded.

They were shocked—and finding it hard to believe—that Hua Kang had actually escaped.

Yet when their eyes turned to Xiao Yu, their lips twitched involuntarily.

They all remembered well the incident at the Bar.

That included Blond and five others who ended up with their limbs ruined.

How ruthless must someone be to do something like that?

They had just seen him kill as casually as if slaughtering a chicken.

So Hua Kang being rescued wasn’t entirely unthinkable.

They all wondered if this thug-like young man was Hua Kang’s fallback.

In their line of work, without a backup, you’d be dying over and over.

“Half a ton is too big an order. It’s way too risky.”

An elder spoke up, “Kangzi, maybe reconsider? The suppliers might be too scared to ship.”

This elder was once a veteran of the Drug Cartel.

It was he who helped Hua Kang rise to power last year.

Only then did he earn a seat on the cartel’s management team.

    “Fifth Master, it’s all good.”

Hua Kang smiled, “We paid the money, and they still refuse to deliver?”

“Kang-ge, I think this is too risky.”

One man stood up and shook his head, “I’m not joining this time…”

    Bang!

Before he could finish speaking, a gunshot rang out.

The man who had been speaking was hit in the forehead and crumpled to the ground…

    “Sorry, the gun misfired,”

Xiao Yu lowered his pistol, grinned at the shocked faces, closed his eyes again, and said, “Carry on!”

Hua Kang and the others looked at Xiao Yu as if he were a lunatic.

    “Haozi and Lao Liu…”

Hua Kang turned to the last two pale-faced men, “You don’t want to join either?”

    “Kang-ge, you’re joking,” they replied.

Forcing smiles, both said, “Whatever you say, Kang-ge, we’re with you.”

There was no choice—two had already died.

They didn’t want to end up dead!

Even so, everyone understood Hua Kang.

    …… requesting flowers……

Deep down, everyone knew that Hua Kang had been betrayed this time.

Right now, his temper was boiling over.

Whoever dares defy Hua Kang now will die!

Admittedly, their behavior only reinforced their belief that Hua Kang’s comeback was perfectly acceptable.

However… their eyes then turned to Xiao Yu.

Where on earth had Hua Kang found such thugs?

    That’s too ruthless!

    ……

    A luxurious business suite.

“Next step: Locate the drug factory!”

Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, Hua Kang clenched his fists, visibly excited, “Once we uproot these people, my mission is complete and I can finally go home.”

    “Don’t celebrate too early.”

Xiao Yu shook his head, “Too smooth.”

    ……

After whatever made you so cautious… Hua Kang looked at Xiao Yu, “Do you think something’s wrong?”

    “There’s a huge problem,”

Xiao Yu picked up his phone and read a text, “Just now, the police learned we were in this building.”

    Hua Kang’s face instantly darkened.

    Betrayed again?

    But something didn’t add up.

The Drug Cartel’s top brass had just been right there before him.

They hadn’t had the chance to call the cops, nor would they.

    Why?

If Hua Kang got into trouble, do you think they’d be able to escape?

“There are too many Lao Lius.”

Xiao Yu stood up with a smile, “Let’s get out of here. As for who this guy is, we’ll figure it out later.”

Hua Kang frowned, confused, “Lao Liu?”

    “Have you ever seen Huluwa?”

As they headed out, Xiao Yu laughed, “What ability does Liuwa have?”

    “Liuwa?” Hua Kang was dumbfounded.

What do you mean by talking about cartoons?

    “Invisibility.”

Xiao Yu shrugged, “Those who can turn invisible love to intimidate; they’re nicknamed Old Silver Coin, or simply… Lao Liu.”

“No, you’re lying to me…” Hua Kang refused to believe it.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that something about ‘Lao Liu’ was off.

Yet, at the same time, Xiao Yu’s explanation didn’t seem entirely wrong.

    Was it just his imagination?

After leaving the building and boarding a sedan,

Xiao Yu watched as a line of police cars brushed past the window.

He never imagined that one day he’d be caught by the police.

Oh my god, I’m about to burst!
