Chapter Index

“Keeper of Fate, what are you doing?”

After the Black-Clad Bishop issued his command, an ominous premonition immediately took hold.

He had no alternative. Only by reducing risk and swiftly obtaining the Unique Consciousness could he afford to issue the order to the Keeper of Fate. Yet, he noticed that after his command was sent, the Keeper of Fate—who had been containing the Tyrant’s power—remained utterly unresponsive.

    This was far from normal.

Logically, even if the Keeper of Fate’s strength wasn’t on par with the Tyrant’s, he at least should have been able to counter.

What’s more, the Keeper of Fate’s mental consciousness had originally been grafted onto the Tyrant’s body.

In a sense, they were two minds sharing one body.

Thus, when opposing the Tyrant, the Keeper of Fate naturally held a significant advantage over the other Ultimates.

At the very least, even if he couldn’t bring down the Tyrant entirely, he could at least wound him severely to create an opening.

From his vantage point, he was sure he would see the clash of mental powers.

    But there was nothing…

All he saw were countless blood-red eyes filling the entire space.

Those eyes, in turn, blocked his own probing.

The Keeper of Fate could glimpse the destinies of others, yet he could also prevent others from doing so.

In an instant, a sinister premonition surged within him, prompting three urgent thoughts.

He swiftly turned toward the direction of the researcher in a white coat and whispered, “Void.”

The Old Researcher in the white coat nodded immediately and flung a playing card forward.

As the playing card hurtled toward him, the Black-Clad Bishop waved his hand, signaling the Abyss Worm to withdraw.

Amid the chaotic battlefield of the Abyss, he couldn’t risk lacking the protection of an Ultimate’s power.

There had to be an Ultimate ready to unleash a Distorted Force Field to shield him.

However, when things went awry on the Keeper of Fate’s end, he planned to retrieve the Unique Consciousness himself—introducing another complication.

He could not permit the ravenous Abyss Worm to come near the Unique Consciousness.

Thus, he had to force the Abyss Worm away and let “Void” stand guard.

“Void” was ranked second among the Thirteen Ultimate, and her power allowed her to safely approach the Unique Consciousness.

Originally, the top rank belonged to the Keeper of Fate.

With these arrangements set, he strode forward. In his hand materialized a playing card bearing the image of a sealed eye. As he advanced, he urged the Keeper of Fate with an intense, pressing force.

    In an instant.

The mental power within the Abyss erupted outward.

The enormous form of the Abyss Worm suddenly soared upward, retreating to the side.

At that moment, a white-haired girl with vacant eyes emerged from the Abyss.

She gently extended both hands, enclosing the air above the Black-Clad Bishop, her white hair softly cascading.

Her gesture formed a colossal surge of mental power that enveloped him in protection.

Simultaneously, as the Black-Clad Bishop neared and tightened his grip on the playing card, every eye began trembling violently.

    ……

    ……

    “What are you doing?”

At that very moment, Lu Xin—suddenly gripped by a foreboding sense—shouted at Mom.

The blood-red eyeballs floating in mid-air trembled softly, as if burdened by immense pressure.

This sudden, direct strain, targeted at their very essence, made the hovering eyes resemble shattered glass marbles already marked by fine, threatening cracks, ready to burst any moment.

Amidst these eyes, Mom’s silhouette flickered, distorting slightly.

Yet at that moment, a gentle smile broke across her face.

Clutching a delicate pair of scissors, she moved closer to Lu Xin.

Leaning toward his ear, she murmured, “I want you to understand that our beginning was false.”

“I have indeed deceived you—more than once.”

“But no woman ever longs for an empty home…”

    “…”

As she spoke, the scissors in her hand suddenly ascended, then she forcefully executed a cut.

    She cut herself.

    “Snip, snip…”

Invisible filaments in the air snapped abruptly, like taut kite strings.

With those filaments breaking, Mom’s image became sharply defined while the eyes that had already begun to crack burst violently—scattering splashes of blood-like light. Yet the remaining eyes steadied in that moment.

    “Buzz…”

The Black-Clad Bishop’s expression shifted dramatically as he felt his playing card tremble gently before falling lifeless.

For the first time, disbelief seeped into his tone: “You’ve abandoned the Mental Sanctuary?”

    ……

    ……

    “You…”

At that moment, Lu Xin suddenly broke free and reached out to grab Mom.

He was struck by an indescribable terror.

He sensed that Mom’s very essence was plummeting—from a lofty realm where all mental beings looked up to her to a level almost inferior to those bizarre mental overlords driven away by the First Researchers.

Yet simultaneously, a sincere smile blossomed on her face.

She slowly spread her arms and smiled gently, “Only now do I truly feel free…”

As she spoke, the rings of her pupils interconnected one after another, deepening gradually.

Meanwhile, the blood-red eyes around her multiplied, each splitting apart.

    They resembled red balloons.

In an instant, they nearly blanketed the entire Abyss.

Some floated in the air, some settled on the ground, and others sprouted from the bodies of nearby bizarre creatures.

Then, just as quickly, they seized the creatures’ consciousness and transformed into her shadow…

It was an indescribably beautiful sight.

Countless eyes swarmed the air, submerging both the Abyss and the earth, filling every inch of space.

Yet at that moment, her shadow began to fade.

Quietly, it smiled at Lu Xin, “No Ultimate ever desires to be controlled.”

“And no woman would ever betray her child.”

“They are all supremely rational, believing that by controlling me, they can guard you forever.”

“But they forget that Ultimates are not the most rational beings.”

“Every Ultimate, tainted by human nature, transforms from pure mental power into an Ultimate…”

    “…”

    “So…”

Her shadow leaned in and embraced Lu Xin, its voice softening, “We truly are family.”

    “We always have been!”

“And it is precisely because we are family that we trust you completely…”

    “…”

    “…”

At that moment, an overwhelming surge of warmth crashed into Lu Xin’s heart.

A massive blast of mental power suddenly inundated every corner of the Abyss.

Dense, innumerable eyes across the area flung open, scanning every direction within the Abyss.

Some fixed their gaze on the fissures within the Abyss.

Others looked toward the endless horde of Mental Monsters.

Many even focused on the enormous Trump Card emblazoned with the Red Moon, held by the researcher in the white coat.

That all-seeing gaze interwove with every strand of mental power in the Abyss, penetrating all secrets contained within that Trump Card. The power of insight, in that moment, could see through everything.

This, naturally, included the Abyss’s own secrets.

    ……

    ……

    “Chitchitchit…”

In the hands of the old Director of Moon Eclipse Research Institute, Xue Jia, an intense scratching sound erupted.

It sounded as if someone were feverishly scribbling.

He trembled with excitement as he quickly retrieved the notebook that had nearly shattered moments before.

On its pages, a series of indecipherable symbols began to appear—as if an invisible pen were swiftly writing in elegant, unbroken script, recording the primordial secrets of the Abyss.

    “Got it…”

He suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, straining his voice and caring little for his dignity or appearance.

He wasn’t even concerned that his shout might attract the surrounding monsters.

    “What is it?”

At that moment, Doctor An nearly forgot the looming danger, exclaiming with deep concern.

The Director of Moon Eclipse Research Institute closed his eyes slightly, as if overwhelmed by an inexplicable surge of emotion:

“It was part of the plan she and I devised privately when she first came to see us.”

“It was also my original reason for risking everything I had at Moon Eclipse.”

“After that game of Mahjong, she seized the critical moment—when the First Researchers’ work on the Genesis Hard Drive was at its peak—to reveal their true purpose to me and extend this invitation. I couldn’t refuse, for I couldn’t stand by as this world reset. So I agreed to back her when the time was right—to risk everything with the entire Moon Eclipse Research Institute by her side.”

    “That was our original agreement.”

“And back then, I asked her if the Research Institute could risk it all for this world.”

“Then why did she commit to such a great risk and sacrifice so much?”

    “…”

    “…”

After a long silence, he exhaled deeply and murmured, “She said it was to keep her destiny from being controlled.”

    “Furthermore…”

After a brief pause, a ridiculous expression still flickered on his face as he added,

“As an Ultimate, she actually told me that the more important reason was for her family!”

    “For her… child!”
