Chapter Index

Lu Changsheng had just arrived at the City Lord’s Mansion when Hong Lian sensed his presence and rushed over immediately.

“Husband, are you done with your business?”

Hong Lian wore a red dress embroidered with vermilion bird patterns. Her figure was graceful and alluring as she gazed at Lu Changsheng with eyes full of joy and longing.

    “Hong Lian.”

Even though their separation hadn’t been long this time.

Not long ago they had communicated through the Sun-Moon Yin-Yang Mirror.

But seeing Hong Lian’s expression of deep longing with joy sparkling in her eyes softened Lu Changsheng’s heart. He stepped forward and pulled her into his arms, savoring the enchanting curves of his wife’s divine form.

After holding each other for a moment Lu Changsheng asked, “Hong Lian, what does Ruoyin need from me? Where is Qin Yuning now?”

“That Xu girl broke through to Core Formation during her trip outside and shattered the fetal mystery. As for Fairy Qin, she’s been staying in the Immortal City all this time.” Hong Lian replied softly.

“A mighty being reincarnated? Shattering the fetal mystery?”

Lu Changsheng froze at the news about Xu Ruoyin, caught off guard.

Years ago Hong Lian had suspected he was a mighty being reincarnated and cultivating anew.

As his cultivation advanced and his Yangming True Lord persona gained prominence more and more people assumed he was a reincarnated powerhouse.

Even some of his wives, concubines and children speculated the same.

Faced with such assumptions Lu Changsheng neither confirmed nor denied them, sometimes even playing along as a reincarnated expert.

He never expected someone close to him to actually be a reincarnated mighty being.

Lu Changsheng clicked his tongue in amazement, thinking Xu Ruoyin was truly extraordinary.

Back then she had stumbled upon a treasure like the Beast Taming Ancient Rune and gained Hong Lian as a constant companion like a guiding elder.

Now upon breaking through to Core Formation she had shattered the fetal mystery and awakened memories from her past life.

“Where is Ruoyin?” Lu Changsheng wanted to learn more about Xu Ruoyin’s situation as a reincarnated powerhouse.

“She’s cultivating right here in the City Lord’s Mansion. If you’re free Husband I can call her over.”

    Hong Lian said right away.

“Mm.” Lu Changsheng nodded and followed Hong Lian to the main hall of the City Lord’s Mansion. He asked about their son Lu Chensha’s cultivation progress.

Most affairs in the Immortal City were handled by Ling Zixiao so Hong Lian wasn’t deeply familiar with the Lu Family disciples here. But she knew everything about Lu Chensha whom she personally guided.

“In at most a year or so Chensha will reach Foundation Establishment perfection and attempt Core Formation. If he contracts the Phantom Mink he could achieve it directly but I prefer he cultivates to that point on his own.”

    Hong Lian explained.

Lu Chensha had no shortage of resources while cultivating in the Immortal City of Damengze.

Under her guidance his conditions were even better than at Bihu Mountain. He could focus solely on cultivation without daily chores.

“Mm, we’ll do as you suggest.” Lu Changsheng smiled.

Though he had broken through to Nascent Soul he wasn’t as skilled as Hong Lian in teaching and nurturing their children’s cultivation.

Soon a woman with flowing fiery red hair entered. She was tall and clad in a vibrant red dress.

Seeing the stunningly handsome young man chatting intimately and laughing with Hong Lian like a descended immortal Xu Ruoyin paused before softly calling out, “Husband, Senior Hong Lian.”

Lu Changsheng knew Xu Ruoyin’s feelings toward him were complex unlike his other wives.

Now that she had awakened her past life’s wisdom those feelings and attitudes might shift slightly.

But Lu Ancestor didn’t mind. With a warm elegant smile he stepped forward, took her soft hand and said, “Ruoyin, you’re here.”

“It must have been tough out there all these years. Hong Lian told me you awakened your past life’s wisdom during your Core Formation breakthrough.”

As Lu Changsheng held Xu Ruoyin’s hand and sat beside her he keenly noticed her hand and body stiffen slightly at his touch.

“Mm.” Xu Ruoyin nodded softly and openly shared about awakening her past wisdom.

Though Lu Changsheng was very curious about her previous life he didn’t ask right away. Instead he said, “Hong Lian mentioned you have something to discuss with me?”

“Through my awakened memories I’ve learned the true method to use the Beast Taming Ancient Rune. For my future cultivation I need to borrow its power so I wanted to discuss it with you Husband.”

Xu Ruoyin gazed at the仙-like handsome young man before her and spoke.

The Beast Taming Ancient Rune was crucial to her, tied to her chance at Nascent Soul so she had to get it back.

“This rune has always belonged to you and Hong Lian. There’s no need to discuss it.”

    Lu Changsheng acted generously.

After all the Beast Taming Ancient Rune was of limited use in his hands, mostly just for Hong Lian’s battles and Lu Chensha’s spirit pet rearing.

Since Xu Ruoyin had a great use for it he didn’t mind returning it to see its true power and function.

Most importantly Xu Ruoyin was now one of his own.

Whether the Beast Taming Ancient Rune was in her hands or his made no difference.

“Hong Lian, you have the Beast Taming Ancient Rune. If Ruoyin needs it daily hand it over to her.”

Lu Changsheng told Hong Lian beside him.

“Don’t worry Husband.” Hong Lian felt pleased that Lu Changsheng agreed without hesitation.

She had guessed what Xu Ruoyin wanted earlier.

She just worried that agreeing without consulting him might upset him.

Now seeing his generous immediate agreement she was delighted.

“The Beast Taming Ancient Rune is with Chensha for him to comprehend and cultivate. I’ll call him over.”

Besides taming beasts the Beast Taming Ancient Rune also boosted cultivation of the Beast Art so Hong Lian had given it to Lu Chensha earlier.

    “No rush.”

Xu Ruoyin felt dazed. She hadn’t expected Lu Changsheng to return the Beast Taming Ancient Rune so easily.

Though he said the rune belonged to her and Senior Hong Lian.

As long as she had it daily that was enough.

“Ruoyin, has awakening your past life’s wisdom affected you in any way?”

At that moment Lu Changsheng asked Xu Ruoyin, deeply curious about her shattering the fetal mystery.

From what he knew there were many ways to shatter the fetal mystery and awaken past memories.

The simplest was the first kind.

If the past life was a Core Formation cultivator or above one might awaken past memories and wisdom by chance.

Besides gaining some past memories and inherited insights there was nothing else.

The second kind involved top-tier cultivators using secret treasures techniques or natural treasures to reincarnate and recultivate.

This required at least Nascent Soul level. They might awaken wisdom at a certain age or cultivation realm.

Beyond past memories and inherited insights there could be many legacies contingencies or a massive boost to the soul.

    But both types had variations.

Like awakening partial wisdom; awakening much wisdom; or even having one’s mind completely overwritten by the past life dominated by it.

“I’ve only awakened some fragmented memories. It hasn’t affected me much but sometimes in my dreams a hazy fog stirs deep in my mind bringing terrifying scenes.” Xu Ruoyin said softly.

When she broke through to Core Formation and shattered the fetal mystery her soul received a huge boost reaching Core Formation peak.

Yet now with her peak Core Formation soul and spiritual sense she couldn’t fathom or sense Lu Changsheng’s depths at all.

He seemed like an towering mountain an unshakeable peak utterly profound.

In this situation she didn’t dare lie to Lu Changsheng.

She knew low-level cultivators had no secrets before high-level ones.

Especially before a top reincarnated powerhouse like Lu Changsheng.

“Fog, fragmented memories?” Lu Changsheng raised an eyebrow and asked if those scenes were from the Northern Plains cultivation world or some faction.

“I don’t know. The memories and dream scenes are very blurry. I only remember an ancient battlefield with many cultivators creatures and demon kings clashing in fierce battle.”

“Besides that I seem to dream of myself sleeping in an ice palace worshipped by many cultivators and ice spirits.”

Recalling the memories Xu Ruoyin’s voice trembled involuntarily.

Those dream scenes felt too real.

The ancient battlefield slaughter felt like she was there herself.

Facing a horde of beings beyond Core Formation at least Nascent Soul and fourth-rank the aura and ripples left her with lingering fear.

As for the ice palace though lacking the battlefield’s terror and intensity.

Facing her sleeping self she felt an indescribable palpitation and awe.

As if she was the one sleeping yet also compelled to worship ‘her’ like the other cultivators and spirits.

With his late Nascent Soul soul and fourth-rank divination skills Lu Changsheng could tell from Xu Ruoyin’s words expression and demeanor that she wasn’t lying.

He thought her past life seemed extraordinary.

At least a top Nascent Soul giant or late Nascent Soul great cultivator.

“Don’t worry. I’m not too familiar with this but with me here we can handle whatever comes in the future.”

Lu Changsheng held her hand and comforted her gently.

Awakening past wisdom was good for gaining past legacies and divine abilities.

But if the past life’s cultivation was too high and memories overshadowed the current life it could change one’s personality dominated by the past.

    Many cultivators found this unacceptable.

Moreover if past life karmic ties were too strong they might carry over to the next life.

So for some cultivators being a great cultivator reincarnated wasn’t entirely good; it was a mix of fortune and misfortune.

“Thank you Husband.” Xu Ruoyin said softly.

From the fragmented memories and dream scenes she knew her past life was exceptional and she worried about the future.

Having Lu Changsheng’s help would be a good thing.

This was one reason she chose to reveal her past memories.

The three chatted idly for a bit before Lu Chensha was called in.

“Greetings Father, Mother, Senior Hong Lian.”

Lu Chensha wore a cyan brocade robe. His face was fair with a slightly delicate air as he bowed to the three.

“Chensha.” Lu Changsheng smiled and nodded inquiring about his son’s situation then asking if he had the Beast Taming Ancient Rune.

Lu Chensha promptly presented the Beast Taming Ancient Rune from his sleeve.

“Ruoyin.” With a flick of his finger Lu Changsheng sent the Beast Taming Ancient Rune into Xu Ruoyin’s hand.

    “Thank you Husband.”

Looking at the Beast Taming Ancient Rune in her hand Xu Ruoyin felt a surge of excitement.

“Your mother will need this rune next. If you need it ask her to borrow it.”

    Lu Changsheng told Lu Chensha.

“This child doesn’t use it much daily.”

Lu Chensha had limited control over the Beast Taming Ancient Rune.

Besides taming beasts he just kept it on him to boost cultivation efficiency with average results.

“Take these resources and cultivate to Foundation Establishment perfection soon. Then I’ll help you contract the Phantom Mink.”

Lu Changsheng tossed a batch of resources to Lu Chensha.

Contracting a third-rank demon king like the Phantom Mink required a Core Formation soul.

But for the Lu Family this was no big deal.

Lu Changsheng had long given Lu Chensha soul-nourishing wood and spirit-nourishing lotus seeds to elevate his soul to Core Formation level.

And with his Defiled God Insects over time his soul already surpassed peers meeting the requirement.

“Thank you Father. This child will cultivate to Foundation Establishment perfection as soon as possible.”

Lu Chensha bowed joyfully thinking how comfortable this life was with no worries about resources.

With resources he could cultivate forever without ever stepping out.

Lu Changsheng didn’t rush to spend intimate time with Hong Lian and Xu Ruoyin sharing their longing. Instead he had Ling Zixiao send a message to Qin Yuning.

Informing her of his arrival and asking what she needed.

Qin Yuning replied immediately upon receiving Ling Zixiao’s transmission saying she had time and wanted to visit.

    “Cloud Dream Inn, Room Nine.”

Using his Changsheng True Lord identity Lu Changsheng naturally wouldn’t meet at the City Lord’s Mansion so he arranged it at Cloud Dream Inn.

A quarter hour later Lu Changsheng met Qin Yuning at Cloud Dream Inn.

“May I ask what Fairy Qin seeks from this Lu?”

Lu Changsheng bowed to the beautiful elegant Qin Yuning before him.

Though he knew her well and had even entered the Divine Maiden Palace smoothly thanks to her.

As Changsheng True Lord he shouldn’t know her.

    “You are Changsheng True Lord?”

Qin Yuning studied Lu Changsheng with some surprise.

Men often stole extra glances at women of exceptional beauty.

Women likewise lingered on men of handsome features and outstanding demeanor.

    It wasn’t vulgar.

It was simply appreciation of the world’s beauties.

Like a flower in full bloom; not admiring it would seem unappreciative.

As a disciple of the Divine Maiden Palace Master Qin Yuning’s beauty talent and vision were beyond question.

Over the years she had seen countless handsome men and beautiful women.

Yet this Changsheng True Lord with his appearance and poised aura ranked among the top male cultivators she had seen!

    His features were flawless.

Gazing at him brought a sense of peace and comfort to the heart.

Though she had inquired earlier and seen his portrait in her master’s jade slip.

A portrait couldn’t capture his peerless looks and charismatic presence.

“This one is indeed Lu Changsheng.” Lu Changsheng nodded.

    “Could you prove your identity?”

Qin Yuning said with a hint of apology.

Her master had sent her to deliver a message so seeing Changsheng True Lord she had to be cautious.

“.” Lu Changsheng was a bit speechless.

He thought she came to see him yet now he had to prove he was himself?

But considering her visit was likely on orders from Great Palace Master Shen Jianjia regarding Shen Yiren and their son Shen Yuanming.

He patiently handed over his token as deputy city lord of the Immortal City of Damengze flicked his hand to cast a rune spell then frowned and said, “Now can the fairy state your purpose in seeking this Lu?”

“I apologize for the offense. Please forgive me True Lord.”

Qin Yuning knew her actions were somewhat impolite.

She bowed in apology and said, “Yuning comes on my master’s orders to deliver this jade slip to you True Lord.”

As she spoke a deep blue jade slip appeared from her storage ring and she handed it to Lu Changsheng.
